Chapter 5

Summer and Winter

As soon as I sent the memory message, I gathered the wind and pushed Katie back, giving me time to freeze over my burn. Katie soon got up and sent a burst of flame toward me. I swing my hands up, creating an ice barrier that was quickly melted. I summon up shards of ice, carving them into daggers, and hurled them at her. With a flash of heat, they were gone.

I'm never gonna be able to beat her in a battle like this. I need a plan... I chewed my lip in worry, and while I was distracted, Katie sent a dozen balls of fire at me. I dodged them all until the last one was coming right at my face. Instinct overcame me and I dived into the ice, digging down and away from the fire.

Perfect! I'll dig right underneath her, collapse the ice, and freeze her. It'll only keep her there for a minute but it's long enough. I dug through the ice, putting my plan to action. Using my power I pushed all the ice to the side and dug straight up, leaving only a thin sheet of ice under Katie's feet.

I created a long spear like an icicle and threw it at her feet; cracking the ice and sending her falling to the bottom. I had put a mound of fresh powder at the bottom so I wouldn't hurt her too much, just slow her down.

I quickly fly out and fill the hole the rest of the way up, knowing it wouldn't kill her. Just as I finished the cap of ice over the hole, Hunter bound in with a flurry of leaves.

"Jackie! Are you ok?! I came as soon as possible! She didn't hurt you did she?" Hunter asked, his face filled with concern. I waved him off and motioned to the mound of snow and ice.

"I buried her in some fresh powder. It won't kill her, but it will slow her down." Just as I said that a dark hand popped out of the snow, followed by a mop of brown hair. Katie slowly pulled herself from the snow, flipping her head back to get her hair out of her eyes. She stared at us for a moment, her eyes once again a fiery hazel.

"Are you guys just gonna stand there starin' or are ya gonna help me?" She asked in her American accent. Hunter and I rushed over and grabbed a hand each, I flinched a little at the heat but tugged her out anyway.

As soon as we pulled her out, she rushed away, wrapping her arms around herself. Worried, I walked over to her,

"Don't come any closer! I don't want to hurt you!" Katie cried, her face filled with fear.

"Katie, your not going to hurt us, that was James, not you. We're going to help you and make sure he doesn't possess you again, ok?" Hunter stated calmly, reaching out a hand to her. Katie slowly nodded her head, and allowed her hand to be taken by Hunter.

Knowing she was still uncertain, I slung an arm over her shoulder, giving her a bright smile.

"I didn't hurt you too bad with that snow, did I?" I ask, checking her over.

"No, but I reckon I did more damage to you, is your burn ok?" she asked, worry once again flitting over her features. I shifted my injured arm into her view, the tattered sleeve dangling from it. Under the ice, you could see it slowly healing.

"C'mon, let's head back to the island, girls," Hunter says with a roll of his eyes. I smirked,

"Ok, but we're going my way! Hahahaha!" I laugh as I called the wind and swept us off the massive glacier. Katie shouts in surprise and Hunter pulled the funniest face ever in his surprise.

"Oh, my Earth, did you see Hunter's face! You were so scared!" I continue to chuckle as Hunter sends me an exasperated look.

Ok, I'm kind of writing four books now... so don't blame me if I don't update every 24 hours (God Emsies8),
