The past three months had been heaven for Betty.

She had been going out with Jughead, spending actual time with him, getting to know him. His personality and way of treating her was only making her feelings for him stronger and her feelings for him were now undeniable. She thought about him all the time, she was spending her afternoons hiding with him, not letting anyone know where she was and making up stories to her mom about how she was sleeping over at Veronica's.

The lies were weighing Betty down. Not only was she lying to her whole family, but to her best friend, sister and everyone around her. No one knew about the affair with Jughead and they had to keep it a secret if they wanted to continue it.

Both of them were always waiting for classes to end, waiting for time to pass by just so they could rush out of school and get in each others embrace. To breath in each other. One of them out of Riverdale high, the other out of Southside High.

But it was getting tiring for Betty. They hadn't had the talk yet. The talk about what they actually were. Was this just a little fling for him? Or did it mean something? Were they boyfriend and girlfriend, and when could they stop hiding and show off their relationsship in public? Jughead had avoided her everytime Betty decided it was time to answer some of the questions.

He didn't want this with Betty to end. She was his only anchor, his only ray of light and he didn't want to let her go when others found out about them. They would take Betty from him and she would be punished for all of this, because of him. He simply didn't want to face reality just yet. It was tiring he could admit, but better to hide with her than be without her, he thought. It was for the best.

Because what would actually happen if people found out that Betty, northside princess in her glory, was slumming it with a southside serpent? Her whole life would fall apart, that's what. People wouldn't respect her and they would leave her, rumours would be spread about her and all of her plans she had planned out would get crushed. And he didn't want that for her. They were already worlds apart, they would never, ever actually be able to be together, he thought. But the longer it lasted, the better. He couldn't let her go just yet.

It was a thursday afternoon. He was sitting in the grass, arms wrapped around Betty's tiny body with her leaning against him. He had his head in her neck, breathing in the smell of strawberries and lavender in her hair, while she sat quiet with closed eyes, humming a low melody. His exhale into her hair brought her back to reality and she turned around to face him, looking into his blue eyes.

"Jug-"

"Not right now, Betty, I'm enjoying my time with you." He stated and she scoffed.

"Yeah, or are you just waiting to get me in bed?" The words slipped out of her mouth before she could register and he let go of her waist, mouth slightly parted.

"Betty, why would you t-" he started but she stood up, brushed the dirt of her skirt and looked down at him.

"I don't know what this is Jughead. Are you just slumming it with me? Waiting to get me into bed and then leave me? Or do you actually have feelings for me?" She asked, waving her hands though the air desperately.

"Betty-" he said while standing up, facing her, "-I would never do that. Ever. I'm not using you, at all. I swear baby.." He reached out for her hand but she quickly pulled it away.

"I don't know what to believe. We've been hiding and everytime I wanna talk to you, you just cut me off. I wanna know what this is Jughead!" She screamed, a tear rolling down her cheek.

"So what, you wanna go show the whole town how we're together? See how they'll react when the northside princess of Riverdale High walks hand in hand with the Serpents leader? That isn't gonna work!! We're worlds apart Betty, wake up!" He shouted, furious because of her outburst.

Her lips trembled and her cheeks got wetter, tears rolling down them.

"Then maybe this isn't gonna work Jughead. You said it yourself. We're on borrowed time, aren't we?" She whispered, voice full of hurt and walked away.

Jughead tried to go after her, pull her into his embrace. His need to touch her was bigger than ever but she pulled away everytime and soon he gave up. He let her walk away.

They were too different.
