Chilly December winds hit Jungkook as he rolled down the window of his car. It was Saturday and he was on his way to Jin's birthday party. He felt cheerful after a long time, he was going to see Joy again.

It had been four months since they'd broken up. The reason was not something serious, it was a decision they'd made together. We'll still be friends, you know. I'll never be far away if you need me. This was what he'd said when they parted. Sometimes, Jungkook doubted if the decision they made was a right one, but it was the only option that seemed sensible at that time. They'd been together for six years. Things were comfortable, but the habits and routine made their lives feel dull.

But was his heart supposed to be hurting this much? It was not a painful ache, but a dull, sinking one, as if something important had been taken away from him. He would constantly find himself either thinking of her or the memories they made together. He remembered the first time he met her, the first time he spoke to her, tripping over his own words. He remembered how she used to laugh at even his stupidest jokes. He remembered how she used to smile at him, her eyes turning into crescents, making his heart flutter.

The pain in Jungkook's heart grew stronger whenever he used to think of her and the same was happening now. The memories of the girl whom he'd seen in a cafรฉ on a December morning and later in his college, the girl who'd made him feel like home since the moment he met her. Jungkook pulled out of his reverie when he reached a very familiar club. He hurried inside when he realized he could see his Joy again. He knew seeing her again will bring him more pain, but it will also ease his longing.

The place was full of people, some who Jungkook knew and some he didnt. He saw one of his best friends, the man of the hour, by the bar and made his way to him.

"Happy birthday, hyung." Jungkook greeted Jin who turned and hugged him.

"Thanks. You're just in time, Kook." Jin said as he pushed one of the glasses filled with beer towards his younger friend. Jungkook complied and took a sip. Just then, Irene, Jin's girlfriend of four years approached them. Irene was one of Joy's best friends and Jin had met her through Joy.

"Jin, come t-" Irene stopped when she saw Jungkook there. "Hey, Kookie." She greeted.

"Hi." Jungkook returned and looked around in hopes of finding a certain someone. Not being able to spot her, he moved his gaze to the happy couple next to him in order to distract himself from the pain in his heart. Jin was saying something to Irene, probably one of his stupid dad jokes, which made both of them laugh.

Jin then turned to Jungkook. "Hey lets go to there, everyone is waiting for you." Jungkook nodded and as the couple were moving, he held back Irene. She raised her eyebrows, asking if something was wrong.

"Noona, is Joy here?" Jungkook questioned.

Irene's expression immediately softened as she looked at her best friends ex-boyfriend. "Oh, she visited us yesterday as she had other plans for tonight." she said softly. Even though Jungkook was trying to hide his desperation, Irene could see right through.

Other plans. That was all Jungkook could think about. He was trying to figure out what had been so important that Joy had to pass Jin's birthday party. A date? His chest tightened at that thought. The thought was just something that popped into his head, something that was probably created by his fears. It was impossible for him to get it out. All Jungkook was able to think was that another man, a new one, was taking his place that he himself had left open when they had decided to end their relationship. Someone else was going to hold her, hug her, kiss her, make her smile, and love her. Something that hed grown so habituated to doing, someone else was going to do that.

Jungkook's fear and pain grew into panic. He was going to lose her. Before, he never had to fear about something like this because Joy was that one, constant person in his life. He had loved her for so long that it grew inside him, as if it was something he had been doing for as long as he could remember. Even after they'd broken up, Jungkook had used the opportunities where they'd randomly bump into each other, to feed his longing heart.

Irene put a hand on Jungkook's arm which pulled him back into the present. "Hey, whats wrong?" she asked.

"I... I need to go. Inform the others, please." Jungkook said and before Irene could reply or even nod her head, he stormed off. She didnt stop him. She knew that, deep down, he still had feelings for Joy and he was too late in realizing it.

Jungkook was rushing outside, making his way back to his car, while wrapping his coat tightly around himself. The wind was blowing more harshly than before, as if taunting him. The hope he had felt earlier while coming to the club was now replaced by fear. He tried his best not to think about that. He didnt want to think about how he might never be able to wake up next to her. He didnt want to think about how they'd never be able to have movie marathons with ice cream whenever one of them had a crappy day. He didnt want to think about how it would feel like to be sick when there would be no Joy to look after him, how he wont be able to text or call her whenever he needed her. And mostly, about never getting another chance to love her again.

The fear was consuming him and making his heart ache like never before. Jungkook drove faster as he neared a familiar neighborhood. He was scared about what was waiting for him at the apartment. He was scared of loosing her, because he knew hed never be able to find someone like her, someone who would make him feel like home. He was scared about finding out that hed already been replaced because he was too late. With a rapidly beating heart, Jungkook ran to a very familiar building and rushed inside. He couldnt wait for the elevator to come so he chose the stairs. The way up to the fourth floor felt endless.

When he finally reached her apartment door, he ringed the bell, a he stood there frozen, letting the panic fill his insides. He tried his best to prepare himself for the worst, to be ready to keep himself together if there really was another man in her life. If she was truly happy, hed back off. Her happiness is what mattered the most and hed not come in the way of it. After all, it was his mistake that he let her go in the first place.

The door opened and Jungkook's heart skipped a beat. He stared at the woman in front of him and realized this was something he hadn't expected. All this while he was so worried about Joy moving on, that he hadn't even thought that maybe even she was feeling the same pain as him. If even she was drowning herself in their memories.

"Jungkook?" Joy whispered softly as if she couldnt believe that he was really standing in front of her.

Jungkook looked at Joy. Her hair was collected into a messed-up bun on top of her head, with small strands falling on her face. She was wearing sweatpants and one of his hoodies. More than anything, her eyes were red and puffy and her voice was sore. She'd been crying.

"Joy." Jungkook breathed, his eyes wide with concern. "Take me back and I'll never leave again." He said. "Please."

The next few seconds felt like years to Jungkook. Joy's eyebrows fell into a frown as her lips parted in shock. Suddenly she closed the distance between then and wrapped her arms around him tightly, as if she was afraid of letting him go again.

"Promise." Joy whispered in a tone that made Jungkook hate himself for breaking her like that. He hugged her back tightly, putting all his longing and love into it.

"I promise."
