Yesterday's Song

Shouto sighs as he watches Shinsou write something, ignoring the questions that Iida and Uraraka are asking about Midoriya. The teen stares out the window, his hands tensing up as his glare hardens and burns brighter while glittering with unshed tears. "Leave me alone, I don't want to talk about it."

That gets them to back off while he blinked away the tears in his eyes. Shouto frowns as he tries to make sense of it. He had gone to visit the green-haired teen yesterday but the door was locked and the lights were out. A note had been taped on the door saying that he was taking a short break from school but Shinsou's disheveled appearance (worse than usual) and Aizawa's glare at the ground is anything to go by, something had happened. Finally, the half-and-half quirk user has had enough. Something happened and they are not being told anything.

"Alright, what happened to Midoriya?" he questions when he finally cornered the purple-haired boy. It technically was more of a demand instead of a question by the tone of his voice. "Don't bother using your quirk to get out of this either. Midoriya had promised to help me out of something and he isn't one to back out on his promises." Nothing. Only a wet glare. "Did he go back to the vill—?"

"Shut up!" Gotcha. "You don't know him like I do! He isn't a villain!"

Shouto sighs and moves his attention to the side. He waits a few seconds until the look of anger on the other's face simmers down. "Sorry for assuming. I'm just worried. He's done more for me than most have."

The teen sighs, dropping his head into his hands. Usually the brainwasher in front of him held more of a cool and laidback appearance, keeping his emotions in check just like him and this is one of the few times when he showed anything other than disinterest for something. "He's in the hospital. That's all I'm allowed to say. Please, just—just leave me alone."

Shouto doesn't, instead, he kept his grip on his shoulders. "I'm not good at this, but, if you need someone to . . . talk to, come to me. Okay?" He had thought back to when Midoriya said those words. He didn't think that the teen could do anything, but when he finally cracked and spoke to him, he felt so much better knowing he wasn't alone anymore. Maybe he could do that for Shinsou. He just didn't expect the guy to start crying. "Uh?"

"S-sorry! I want to be left alone right now."

Shouto has never seen anyone breakdown this terribly. Something bad—no, not bad but terrible—must have happened if this is the reaction he earns from his classmate. "No. You need someone to talk to. I'm not leaving until you either feel better or want to open up."

Shinsou stares at him with wide eyes. "Why?" he croaks. "Why are you doing this? Why care at all?"

"Because it's what a hero does. No, it's because that's what a person should do," he admits, correcting himself. He sits down beside Shinsou and awkwardly offers a hug which the other takes with a laugh. "I'm bad at this, I know."

"You are. But it's okay." He tightens the hug for a second, giving him a squeeze before pulling away. "Thank you, Todoroki. I really needed a hug right now." His smile turns sad. "I'm pansexual," he admits, curling into himself while thinking that he'd say something rude about it. When he doesn't, he continues, "And Midoriya—"

"You have a crush on him." That's too blunt. Good job, Shouto, make him regret opening up to you. "I honestly wouldn't doubt if a lot of people have a crush on him. He's a good friend despite the first impression he made."

"I don't think it's that they have a crush on him, but they have respect. But yeah, you're right. I have a crush on him, but—"

"But?"

"I think he still has feelings for his ex, no matter how much he denied it." He runs a hand through his hair. "He—He was going to tell me something, but . . . but an accident occurred and he's been hospitalized. I had been planning on confessing to him before that, but now—" he cuts himself off with another sob. "Gosh, I'm pathetic."

"Hey. It's okay. You care about him. It's understandable to feel like this when someone you care about is in the hospital." Shouto gives him a small, awkward smile. "You're not pathetic for caring. Everything will be fine. He's gonna come back and tease all of us like he used to do. Maybe almost die because of Bakugou."

That is the wrong thing to say. "Bakugou is the worst," he mutters, rubbing his hands together. "He's really terrible to people but when it comes to Midoriya, it's almost as if he's willing to commit murder."

"I've noticed that." He frowns, wondering if Shinsou knows. "Did Midoriya ever tell you what Bakugou did to him? Well, what he said to him?"

  "No?"

Shouto stops, biting his bottom lip. "If I tell you, promise you won't kill him?"

Shinsou frowns, his eyes are laced with suspicion before he nods reluctantly. "I promise."

"Bakugou had bullied him since they were children because of Midoriya's lack of quirk. At one point of their life, he told Midoriya to kill himself."

Never has Shouto seen someone's heart shatter so prominently as Shinsou's did at that moment.

* * *

The room is silent with the occasional beeping of the heart monitor and the oxygen machine. The door opens, a woman in nurse scrubs with bright gold eyes, staring straight at the sleeping boy. Her mouth is covered with a medical mask, hiding the fact that she's frowning. Her eyes close as she crosses the threshold, silently closing the door behind her with a sigh. She's there for a reason. One that she isn't proud of but it's for the best. Ryu will fall apart, his entire being and company will shatter to the ground. All according to plan.

Fishing out a syringe, she crosses the room and plunges the needle into the IV. "What do you think you're doing?"

The woman jumps, whipping around to meet red eyes. "I have to put medicine in his IV," she lies, glaring at the young adult male. She knows exactly who this man is and she won't allow him to get in her way.

The man's irises flick over to the seemingly empty syringe and narrows his eyes, a hot flame of anger dancing in them. "There's nothing in the syringe. So don't lie to me."

She sighs, pulling out a dagger from her sleeve. "You just have to make everything difficult."

Shigaraki scowls, jumping back when the woman lunges at him. "You attempted to kill him, didn't you? How do you know where he's being taken cared of? Huh? How? Tell me! How did you find out?"

She doesn't say anything, swing the blade only for him to dodge and grab her wrist with all five fingers. The skin starts to peel off followed by the muscle. Blood spills onto the floor as Shigaraki presses his other hand against her mouth to muffle her screams of pain, moving her backwards until she hits the wall. Golden eyes are swimming with pain and hatred as she stares at the young villain. She has to finish this job. This is all she has to do.

The door opens and in comes the father of the son. "Shigaraki?" The face is familiar to him. Those golden eyes, there's something with them that springs out to him.

"She's trying to kill Izuku," he says, not moving from his spot. "She's the one who put Izuku in the hospital in the first place!"

"What?" He moves forward, each step he takes the woman is squirming under the young adult male's grasp. Midoriya Hisashi's eyes are full of rage and murderous intent. He wants to kill her! He's going to kill her! He places a hand on the younger male's shoulder. "Move her mask and hat." She struggles even further. Once her identity is revealed, her face splits into pain from the punch of the fire breather. "You! How could you do this? What did my son ever do to you?"

"He's just a pawn that needs to die!" She growls with such ferocity that it resembles a caged animal trying to make its last stand. Another punch to the face.

"We trusted you and invited you into our family. I'm so disappointed in you." He turns to the villain. "Take her away and I'll meet you at the bar. Thank you for looking after my son, Shigaraki. I need to have a word with a certain Detective." With that he leaves, tears glistening in his eyes at the betrayal. How could his life turn into this? The woman who has been working with him for the last few years. The assistant he looked after as a sister. How could she do this to him? Izuku, why are you getting the short end of the stick for my misgivings?

Shigaraki grins widely, his chapped skin stretching a bit. "You're coming with me." Before she can even do anything, her world goes dark.

So... The assassin is Hisashi's assistant. Izuku will be waking up soon. Tomura is gonna get revenge.
Hisashi will find out who is after him. The training camp will go on.
