Bramblestar: Like

(Spoilers for The New Prophecy, Power of Three and Omen of the Stars)

Bramblestar is actually one of the few warriors I actually like that has had a point of view in the books. He's been through a few things in life and has actually overcome them and put them in the past.

I actually liked BrambleXSquirrel since they actually had chemistry unlike most Warriors couples. It was definitely opposites attract. On topic of this couple, we have the lie in Power of Three. Bramblestar had every right to break up with Squirrelflight. She lied to him for a long time and made him think he had kits! Brambleclaw had actually the most realistic reaction to being told that he had no kits.

"But Brambleclaw should never have broken up with Squirrelfight! She did what she thought was right and Brambleclaw should have known that! I hate him for breaking up with her!" Seriously? Hating Brambleclaw for breaking up with Squirreflight is just so pointless when he had every right to break up with her. Why?

1) Squirrelflight clearly has no respect for him. In fact, she mustn't love him a lot if she decided to lie to his face for a while without him having a clue. If she loved him or even cared about him for that matter, she should have at least included him in the lie. Squirrelflight couldn't have cared much about him in the first place.

2) He was torn to pieces because of Squirrelflight! His forgiving nature was thrown out of a window! How would you feel if the one you loved had been lying you for such a long time? You'd break up with them with their lack of faith in you, wouldn't you?

Brambleclaw had every right to be mad at her. He actually had a good enough reason to not want anything to do with her. The best thing he could have done was ignore her like he actually did. Why was he being immature by ignoring her rather than actually starting an actual fight?

Anyway, to the point where we have Bramblestar-claw back then-proving his loyalty to the Clan. Sure, that got annoying, but wouldn't you want to prove to your Clan you're nothing like your murderous and evil father? It was hard for him to feel like he even had a place in ThunderClan since everyone looked down at him. How'd you feel if you were in his situation?

So after a while he's proven his loyalty to his Clan and now the Clans have moved to the Lake, where Brambleclaw only finds out Hawkfrost and Mothwing are his half-siblings. Brambleclaw only wanted to know Hawkfrost because he realised he was his half-brother. Wouldn't you actually want to know someone who you only found out was your half-sibling?

So Brambleclaw's been seeing Hawkfrost and wanting to spend time with him. Squirrelflight notices, becomes jealous, and acts dramatic all over it.

Brambleclaw had the right to be angry at her then since she was annoying him about it. He actually acted harsh towards her for a reason that's actually understandable. Then he notices Squirrelflight's hanging around with Ashfur, his best friend, more, and must have felt jealous about it since he must have assumed she preferred him instead.

Anyway, back to the Hawkfrost and Brambleclaw scenes. After getting to know each other, the two end up meeting their father in the Dark Forest. Not knowing him that much since he was only a kit when Tigerstar died, Brambleclaw would have wanted to know him since he hardly got to before. Of course Brambleclaw would want to know a father he hardly knew of no matter how evil he was.

"Brambleclaw's so stupid to think Tigerstar was good! In fact, he was dumb enough to even talk to Hawkfrost or Tigerstar! They're evil!" Brambleclaw only knew Tigerstar was evil, not Hawkfrost. Brambleclaw still cared about Tigerstar despite everything he had done. Besides, Tigerstar made it tempting for Brambleclaw to accept his offer of being trained since Tigerstar stated he'd be a better warrior. Brambleclaw was also lonely because Squirrelflight seemed happier spending time with Ashfur.

Later in Sunset, we've got the scene where Hawkfrost tells Brambleclaw to kill Firestar for Tigerstar's sake. Brambleclaw is loyal enough to his Clan to refuse to be like them even though they were his kin. If Brambleclaw was disloyal and stupid, he'd have done what they wanted. Before anyone uses the "He trained in the Dark Forest! He's disloyal to his Clan!" argument like people use against Ivypool, the warrior code doesn't say "Thou shall not communicate or train with cats in the Dark Forest".

Brambleclaw looked past his kin and chose his Clan over them. He chose loyalty over kin even though he would like to be leader, and that proves that he is committed and loyal to his Clan. That makes him different from his father and half-brother.

Anyway, skipping several books after Sunrise with Brambleclaw giving Squirrelflight the silent treatment, we're on The Last Hope. It's the end of the battle, Firestar's finally dead, Brambleclaw's now Bramblestar and he chooses Squirrelflight as deputy and forgives her.

I personally think Squirrelflight should never have been made deputy. She's willing to betray her Clan in an instant. I understand Brambleclaw wants to forgive her after realising she did it for the best of reasons, but making her deputy isn't the right way.

"I would do it again in a heartbeat." - Squirrelflight. This shows Squirrelflight would be unfaithful to him once again if she had the chance to be.

Bramblestar should have chosen a cat who would actually handle being deputy and is loyal to the Clan.
