Chapter 35: Long Live the King Part II

~

The light and joy was killed in a matter of seconds. Shattered easily as glass. Never meant to be mended. It was the darkness that broke through it. And it was the darkness that came out at the other end, unharmed and more hungry for power. This darkness however, can never be defeated. This darkness is not meant to be defeated. This darkness might have lost the battle, but will win the war.

Slowly, but with ease, Percy Jackson strolled to the centre of the throne room. Every shocked or terrified face he spotted only made his smile grow. Oh, how he loved the nervous silence that filled the enormous room. The grand room that he will reduce to ashes if he had to. And the throne, Zeus' throne, it will be his by dawn. Zeus, who turned white as snow when he saw him, stood at the other end of the room. A glass of red wine in one hand and his thunder bolt, glowing with power, in the other hand.

Percy halted a few steps away from Zeus. "I thought it would be disrespectful to not congratulate you for your victory face to face. Therefore, I decided to come here personally." Percy's eyes gleamed with evil and mischief. But something else glowed in them, power and rage. He was holding a blast of power back. This was the calm before the storm. Zeus, whose eyes were wide as the sky, finally spoke. "Y-you were dead. Gone." The king of the gods stuttered.

Percy placed his hand on his chest. "Me? Gone? Oh, I see." The lord of Tartarus turned to face Jason who just like his dad, was frozen from fear. "Jason, you didn't tell them? You didn't tell them what actually happened? I'm disappointed in you lightning boy."

"Tell us what?" Hera demanded. She stood behind her husband, probably planning to shift away as soon as the fighting started. "So you're telling me that Jason and his friends didn't tell you that they actually locked me up in a box to try to reason with me? Therefore risking everyone's safety. Especially since Jason is too scared to face me?" Percy said. Gasps and curses erupted through the throne room. Everyone's scared shocked faces turned to glares that were directed towards Jason and the others.

"Pandora's box!" Athena said as it dawned at her. Her glare shot through Jason. "You mean to tell me that you stole Pandora's box, to reason with that!" She sneered, pointing at Percy.

"That? Is that what you're calling your future king Athena?" His eye colour turned darker as it was obvious he was growing restless of being held back. "You don't want to make a bad impression now, do you?"

"You're not my king. I will never kneel before you." Athena snapped.

"That's what Piper said before she fell to her knees and begged for mercy." Percy said.

"I swear Percy, if you harmed her." Jason said, pulling his sword from his belt. Percy turned to face him, eyebrows raised. "What will you do about it, kill me? I can't imagine that, you failed the first time."

He then turned to face the rest of the demigods and gods. His black blood became evident and his black aura spread around him, shielding him. "Listen carefully, all of you. I freed my army and right now they are hidden in every corner in this palace, inside and outside. And those sea creatures I didn't use in the battle," he pointed to the huge pool that laid in the corner of the throne room, "these creatures can appear wherever they want, whenever they want as long as they're in water. This is your chance, kneel and surrender or I'll unleash myself and my army on you and colour this golden throne room, red with your blood. And the gods, you'll end up right beside Ares."

The crowd exchanged glances, whispering amongst each other. "Choose wisely." Percy said.

Athena stepped forward, her spear in her hand. "I'll fight you, Perseus. Once again, I'll never kneel."

Percy shook his head in disappointment. "Wrong choice. I grow more powerful by the second." With a snap of his fingers, the throne room began to shake and a crack appeared beneath Athena's feet. Wind rushed out of the hole, cold and dark. Tartarus. Athena, too shocked to move before, as the hole grew wider, tried to step away. But she was too late, black smoke that rose from Tartarus circled her, just like what happened to Ares, pulling her downwards as her screams echoed across Olympus. Once she was gone, the hole sealed itself again.

"Anyone care to join her, let me know?" A couple of minor gods and demigods instantly fell to their knees, their heads bowed. "Smart choice. See, that wasn't so hard." No one dared to move nor answer him. They were all stuck between the two choices: death or serving him. Neither was good in their opinion. Percy sighed and rolled his eyes. "Fine, I'll guess I'll do it the hard way." Without warning, he pulled Riptide from his belt and at the same moment, before the crowd could ready themselves, the throne room erupted. Percy's army poured in, through the windows and doors, armed and thirsty for blood. A sea serpent, black as midnight with yellow piercing eyes, erupted from the huge pool, snatching demigods with its razor sharp enormous teeth.

Percy charged towards Zeus as the massacre around him continued. Zeus, too stunned to notice what was happening, couldn't save himself as Percy plunged Riptide into his chest. Zeus fell to his knees before him, golden blood dripping onto the floor. "Here's the thing dear uncle, when I became immortal my sword got a little upgrade. Apparently, it could kill gods." His smile only grew bigger as the screams and cries filled the throne room.

"It's beautiful isn't, seeing your king dead." Percy yelled, making sure everyone can hear him. The rest of the Olympians drew their weapons, even Poseidon whose rage was as powerful as his oceans as he watched his brother die, charged towards his son. "Even my own father? This will be fun." Black smoke circled Percy until he could no longer be seen. But when the smoke cleared, it wasn't Percy that stood in place. Instead, it was a big green-black dragon whose fire can burn through gods too, that stood. He spread his wings and charged, banishing all the Olympians to Tartarus.

And when he was done, when his armour was stained with their golden blood, did he look out on the rest of the battle. The minor gods and demigods that had kneeled before him now fought for him, alongside his army that outnumbered his enemies on a much bigger scale now. He spotted Jason and the others fighting the sea serpent, alongside what remained of the hunters of Artemis, only Thalia. He was winning. Actually, he had already won. But he changed back to his human form and gripped Riptide tightly as he plunged into the fight once more.

By the time Piper woke up in the duty ancient room, she could hear the fighting and the screams. For once in her life, she was truly terrified, but she had to help. She pushed her exhausted body down the hallways she had easily memorised until she reached the room where Annabeth was locked up. Annabeth was innocent, Piper had figured it out after their conversation with Percy. She remembered the look in Annabeth's eyes after she confessed to everything, back on the island. That seemed like such a long time ago, back when their was hope that they would win. How could she be so foolish? Annabeth was played, she knew he friend, the look in her eyes said it all.

Piper pushed the door open to find Annabeth in the exact spot they had left her, chained to a chair. But now she was wide awake, with fresh tears staining her cheeks. "Piper, what's happening? Percy? Did he..."

Piper tackled her with a big hug, tears now spilling down her cheeks. "He escaped and put me out. I hear it too, the sounds." She muttered. It was unlike anything she heard. The screams of fear and pain that never stopped, the roar of what seemed like a dragon and the violent shake of the ground which Piper knew was Percy banishing the gods. Piper pulled away from the hug and faced her friend. "I'm asking you this once Annabeth. And I will use my charmspeak." Piper breathed in deeply, feeling her powers flow through her. And then, in a voice that wasn't hers, she commanded her. "Tell me the truth."

Annabeth immediately said the truth. About how Octavia had escaped when they were in the jungle. How she had heard them talking and rushed back to Percy, telling him anything. Piper was sure of her powers and she did remember seeing Annabeth battle Octavia till one of them died. It all came back to her. Piper pulled the key from her pocket and unlocked the lock. Letting Annabeth go free. "Come on, they need every soldier out there." She handed Annabeth her dagger and the two girls raced down the ancient palace's hallways. They didn't stop, even when the noises grew louder as they neared the throne room. Even when their hearts began to fund loudly in their chests, the fear of what lay ahead only growing.

The fighting had come to an end by the time they reached. Piper let out a cry as they beheld what lay before them. The Olympians were gone, only their golden blood stained on their thrones remained, minor gods too. However some of them were still alive, now kneeling against Percy who stood in the centre of the throne room. Dead bodies littered the once golden floor but now bright red. And standing before Percy was what remained of Camp Half-Blood. Their friends were amongst them too. Percy's army stood in each corner of the room, their numbers hardly reduced, even after the fighting.

Percy instantly spotted them. "Glad you could join us, however you are a bit late. As usual." He beckoned to a group of his guards to seize them. Piper and Annaeth both dropped their weapons, the energy to fight back leaving their exhausted bodies. The hope and light shattering before them. The guards pushed them to join the demigods. Chiron stood with them, his head bowed, unable to meet the eyes of his former student.

"I warned you. I gave you many chances. So many chances. None of you listen nor obeyed." Percy began as he strolled towards Zeus' throne. "Now Zeus is gone, along with the rest of them. Olympus is mine, just like the prophecy predicted. You were all too stupid to understand it meant I will win."

He was about to sit on the throne but he turned to face them all. "And now you are all at my mercy. And now I am your king." He sat down on the throne, turning it from gold to black with his touch. It was similar to his throne back on the island. But this one had claws coming from it's shoulders. Claws that would protect the king. "Kneel." He ordered.

His army happily did it, what remained of the Upper Guards smiling as they did it. Annabeth was the first to do it. Was the first to kneel, knowing if she resisted against him any longer, more of the people she loved with die. What remained of the demigods followed and Chiron too. Even Jason ,who's shirt stained with blood and his face stained with shame and hurt, kneeled. Annabeth closed her eyes as more tears fell, whatever Percy had waiting for them, she knew it will break her.

Vincent, who kneeled at the king's side raised his head and said, loudly enough for every one to hear. "Long live the king!" The rest of the villains chanted it too. But camp half-blood didn't as they were too scared to even move. The villains kept chanting it, their words echoing across the palace and all of the city of the gods. It was a new age, and new king. A king who was too powerful to fall. A king not meant to fall.

Just like what the prophecy had predicted, Percy was meant to be king. The first part in the prophecy, 'He who walked the path of hell'  Percy was walking towards Hell, walking to seize it. Which he did. 'Who didn't know what we will tell'  But Percy was there that night, when the fates walked into Olympus and said the the prophecy, Percy was there. 'accused of committing a crime, only he knows what goes on in his mind.' Just like what the fates said, they hinted it. They are the fates, they knew he was there that night, they knew he would hear the prophecy. They knew he would understand. All he knew what he truly planned, to become the king. And they weren't there that night to warn the Olympians. No, they were there to tell him, that you will be king. And it will all play out to your favour.

And who knows, maybe the fates did chant it that day. Maybe deep down they said it. Long live the king.

I can't believe there is only one more chapter, AHHHHHHHH! I don't want this story to come to an end too. Next chapter will be about Percy punishing camp half-blood and sealing their fate. And I finally get to write about Percy being the king, I always wanted to. I hope you will all be pleased with the ending. And for those of you who want Annabeth to end up with Percy at the end. No, that can't work. (I mean don't get me wrong I DO SHIP PERCABETH, HARDCORE!!) but not in this story because Annabeth would then be queen and Percy wouldn't want that, he can't share his power or rule, doesn't make sense. I hope you guys like the last chapter when it comes out. Until then, let's hope Percy remains king
