Distress

A/N - I originally wrote this with shitty Techno and Phil, but I know how many Techno simps there are so you get Technobro. Phil still isn't super cool in this one, though.

This has a/b/o dynamics, but heats and ruts work differently. There will be heats in this chapter, but no ruts, so I will explain heats. In this universe, I can best compare omega's heats to a more intense, almost continuous period (as in menstruation) without the blood. There's a lot of pain and they regress into their instincts, but there's no sex-craze or anything remotely NSFW, all cuddles and fluff and comfort.

They're all family, so please don't comment anything about shipping. In this AU especially, platonic affection is extremely common.

TW: Everything that comes along with a/b/o dynamics/omegaverse.

The animal-themed calendar hung in the kitchen, a random stock photo of a giraffe sitting above the chart for that month. Two dates were circled: the nineteenth and the twenty-first. On the nineteenth, in bright red writing was, 'Tech and Dad come home!!'. The twenty-first didn't have any writing on it, just a sticker of a Band-Aid. Wilbur never liked to advertise his heat cycle, so this was enough for everyone to know when his heat started each month. Whether he put a sticker of a guitar, a milk carton, or anything else, they knew it subtly stood for when his heat was supposed to begin.

Like clockwork, Wilbur's heat came in raging on the twenty-first. He had everything he needed: water bottles, snacks, a wonderful nest in the home where his family lived, his comfort items, and his younger brother Tommy, who would check in on him periodically. The one problem was that Techno and Phil hadn't come back on the nineteenth like they were supposed to, and still weren't home.

In his heat-induced haze, Wilbur noticed the absence of his alpha brother and beta father, and couldn't stop whining. His nest felt cold with half of his family gone, and it was heartbreaking for Tommy to watch his brother writhe around, calling out for people who weren't there. The scent of distressed, in-heat omega filled the home, and it brought tears to Tommy's eyes, both because of the strength of the smell and what it meant. In addition to this, he noticed that the smell made him feel funny in his tummy. There was an ache that was getting stronger and stronger throughout the day until he buckled in pain on the stairs while bringing a peanut butter bagel to his brother.

In his nest, Wilbur smelled Tommy's distress and whined for the boy he considered to be his pup. Even if Tommy didn't know what was happening, Wilbur knew. Deep in his omega instincts, he could smell the scent of his brother's heat, and it meant one thing. Tommy had just presented as an omega and was going into his first heat, while Wilbur was in the middle of his own, and their other caretakers were who-knows-where.

Tommy sat there on the stairs, rocking back and forth holding his stomach, whining. It was quite upsetting, the two omegas across the hall from each other, calling out but unable to help or even reach one another.

Tommy eventually gathered enough strength to drag himself into Wilbur's room, and the older immediately welcomed Tommy into his nest and wrapped his arms around his pup in an attempt to soothe the ache. He knew first heats were the worst, and the smell of his little brother's distress brought him out of his daze a little bit. Of course, he was still in a lot of pain and only half-conscious, so he could nothing more than comfort Tommy, who was rubbing his forehead up and down Wilbur's shirt and wrapping his arms impossibly tight around the older.

~With Techno and Phil~

The voices guided Techno through his fight with the Pillagers. It seemed like there were more of them than there usually were at an outpost, and for the thousandth time, he regretted taking the job. The villagers had practically grovelled at their feet to go take care of the outpost, and they had accepted, thinking that it would take a day at most. Nope, Phil got hurt so they had to retreat, and then they were overwhelmed by the number they had and that ended up chewing up another day. If Techno's calculations were correct, they would get back just in time for Wilbur's heat. He grimly hoped the omega hadn't started early.

He had just slain the last Pillager when the voices took Techno's mind by storm, and he struggled to make sense of it all.

Omegas in pain

His heat wasn't supposed to start yet! Techno thought in confusion. Brothers? Is Tommy okay? But the voices just kept repeating the same phrases over and over, and Techno didn't need to think very hard to know that something was wrong with his brothers, and he needed to get home as soon as possible.

"Phil! We need to get home, there's something wrong with the boys," He yelled urgently. The green-clad man hurried over. "What happened? Are they in danger?" Techno just held his head in pain as the voices battered his skull. "I get it, okay?!" He growled. Phil almost stepped back before realizing what was going on. "Is it the voices?" He asked. "Yeah," The pig hybrid replied tiredly while packing his horse. "I don't know what happened, but they might be in danger. We need to get home as fast as we can."

They made it back in record time, having been most of the way there when the village they were passing through had requested their help.

As soon as Techno opened the door, he was hit by two strong scents that he immediately identified as omegas. Even Phil, whose sense of smell was quite a bit weaker, wrinkled his nose and furrowed his eyebrows in concern. They recognized Wilbur's familiar fruity scent, but there was a new, distinctively different scent mixing with it. It smelled like freshly-baked pastries, and the two scents oddly complimented each other.

A switch flipped in Techno's head, and his alpha instincts pushed him up the stairs and in front of Wilbur's door, which he delicately opened to reveal a mess of sheets, blankets, stuffies, and pillows. In the middle of it all were two figures, limbs tightly tangled and noses burrowed in each other's necks. The source of the smell was definitely coming from this room, and Techno distantly wondered if it would be permanently infused in the walls. The voices confirmed that these were the omegas, and the dots connected in Techno's mind. Tommy had presented as an omega and had gone into heat during Wilbur's heat. And Techno was out making money in fights he didn't need to be having. He knew the voices would scold him about this later, and he honestly couldn't blame them.

He felt Phil's presence behind him, and he turned to the man, who was looking at the two boys in surprise. "So Tommy's an omega, then," He whispered. Techno hummed in affirmation. Phil continued speaking, and held up the calendar from the kitchen, pointing to the dates. "Mate, we messed up. We had the dates wrong. It's the twenty-second, not the twentieth. Wilbur's been in heat for at least a day, and I don't even know how long Tommy's been. Hopefully not longer."

The fact only made Techno further upset with himself at his failure. His responsibility as the pack alpha was to support the rest of the pack, especially the omegas and pups. And his omega, and his omega pup, had suffered alone, without him. All he wanted to do was hold them tightly in his arms and apologize, but he had to be invited into the nest, especially since he didn't know if the two sleeping males would even want to be around him now.

"Dude, aren't you going to go in?"

He looked at Phil in confusion, who only gestured with his head to the nest. "No, I have to be invited. Going into an omega's nest without their permission, especially during heat, especially with pups inside, is like asking for a death sentence."

"Oh," Phil said, somewhat embarrassed. Just then, Wilbur stirred and his eyes drifted open before landing on the pink-haired man. Those brown eyes widened and Techno prepared himself for whatever reaction the man would have.

The musician whined and gave Techno the biggest puppy-dog eyes he had ever seen, and waved his hand frantically. Techno took this as an invite, and tentatively stepped into the nest, only for his hand to be snatched and his body dragged into the sheets, where Wilbur positioned himself, the pig hybrid, and Tommy so that the sleeping blond was sandwiched between the two. Techno's heart filled with brotherly affection for the brunet, who wanted to give his younger brother as much comfort as possible, going as far as to sacrifice a chance at comfort for himself.

He wasted no time wrapping his arms around the boy, letting out a comforting rumble. Tommy woke up just enough to murmur, "Alpha," before snuggling further into the sheets and beginning to purr. This set off Wilbur's purr and Techno struggled not to aw at how adorable it all was.

There was a shuffling in the doorway and he opened his eyes to see Phil smiling at them, somewhat sadly. Wilbur waved his hand in the same way he had to invite Techno, and Phil's smile brightened a little as he made his way towards the nest. He chose to sit on the outer edges behind Techno and got to work running his fingers through the pink locks, which he knew the pig hybrid secretly loved.

I'm not the one who needs comforting, Techno thought when Phil chose to sit near him and not the other two boys who were in heat, but he shook it off. They would talk about it later. For now, he had omegas to comfort and a nest to protect.

(A/N, skip if you're not interested)

I mentioned in another chapter that I read a fanfic with great a/b/o dynamics that wasn't smutty, and I just wanted to say that it was in the Marvel fandom, not MCYT. It's called 'The Struggle with Being a Unicorn' if anyone wants to check it out. Anyways, hope you enjoyed this one.
