Faith and Doubt

     "Mom, I saw a ghost."

Zunko's mom looked over at her, then closed her book with a sigh. "Oh, honey... You don't have to pretend."

The face she gazed down at was in a pout, an indignant Zunko staring back up at her.

"No, mom! I really did! His name is Lui!"

Her mom gave another heavy sigh and stared at her for a while, then smiled vaguely. "Of course you did, dear."

With a harrumph, Zunko stormed out of the room. Fine then! She'll just bring him here, and then they'll see!

...That's what she thought, but turns out that's easier said then done.

"Meet your family...? I mean, I wouldn't mind, but I can't leave. I can't go too far from the place where I died."

Zunko sat on the swingset with folded arms, thinking. How can she get him out of here? For the next couple weeks, she read book after book on earth-bound spirits. Unfortunately, it was pretty hard to understand as a 9-year-old that's met a grand total of one ghost. What she eventually stumbled upon didn't come from a book, but rather her older sister Itako.

"A spirit that can't leave... Well, it kinda depends on what kind of spirit it is, but there's two issues here. First is that they won't be able to find their way on their own, but the bigger problem is the 'boundary' they can't cross. A ghost that isn't strong enough to pass is just stuck."

Finally she had a lead, but how could she go about making Lui "stronger"...?
