I watched the friends hanging out,
I watched the happy family picnics,
I watched the parents smile as their children ran to play,
I watched the couples, old and young,
walking holding hands with smiles on their face.
I watched the birds on the tree chirp happily
as their mother brought food.
Love and happiness surrounded me
Yet I had no one to replace 'me' with 'us'.
I rested my head on the bench and closed my eyes,
A chill wind passed by me and I thought
"Doesn't the wind need me too?"
I felt a hand on my shoulder,
I opened my eyes to look at the beauty standing,
She smiled at me.
She grabbed my hand, her hands were soft and cold
We walked and all I did was stare,
She looked at me and smiled again
I returned her smile but I didn't dare ask who she was
Too afraid to lose my one and only friend.
A chill wind passed me and I closed my eyes to feel it
As I opened my eyes,
all I could see were the friends hanging out,
happy family picnics,
parents smiling as their children played,
the couples, old and young, walking holding hands
with smiles on their faces.
The realization hit me hard,
"Was it a dream or hallucination?"
I asked myself,
But none was the answer.
The sky thundered like a bomb,
As the rain began, tears stroked my cheeks.
The park was empty by now,
The raindrops fell from sky, so did my emotions
The sand was replaced by puddles,
and 'us' was replaced by 'me'.
The world seemed empty now
without a trace of humans,
so did my heart
And I sat alone and alone and alone..
After a few minutes, the rain stopped
As I looked above at the sky,
I saw the dark clouds being moved by sunlight
And I sat there waiting for a ray of hope to light up my darkness
just like the sun lit up the sky...
