Chapter 10

I took my seat in the back of the classroom, watching as Scott, Stiles and Allison all walked in. "Let's go. Sit, sit, sit, sit. We got a lot to cover today." Coach yelled, pushing students to sit down at their desks. Stiles smiled at me, moving to sit behind me.

"Hey, Stiles, sit behind me, dude." Scott begged, his eyes wide. Stiles went to move seats but Allison got there first, putting her stuff down on the desk. Scott and I shared a look as Stiles sat behind me. Allison sat down, poking Scott's back.

"I haven't seen you all day." She mumbled.

"Uh, yeah. I've been, uh, super busy." I almost felt bad for Allison. I mean, I did feel bad for her. I almost wish she knew everything so it wouldn't be so weird around her. She glanced at me, sighing as our eyes connected. She knew something was off but she didn't say anything about it.

"When are you gonna get your phone fixed? I feel like I'm totally disconnected from you." Scott nodded.

"Uh, soon. Real soon." Allison flashed him a smile.

"I changed lab partners, by the way."

"Oh. To who?"

"To you, dummy." She chuckled as Scott nodded, nervously.

"Me? I mean, are you sure?" Allison rolled her eyes, still smiling.

"Yeah. This way I have an excuse to bring you home and study. You don't mind, do you?" I gulped, not really wanting to hear much more of this conversation.

"I just, I don't want to bring your grade down." I glanced at Scott and he shrugged a little.

"Well, I mean, maybe I can bring your grade up. Come to my place tonight. 8:30?" Scott's eyes went wide as he looked at me for an answer. I just shrugged.

"Tonight?"

"8:30." Allison confirmed before our attention was directed to the front of the room when Coach slammed down a book.

"Let's settle down. Let's start with a quick summary of last night's reading." Only one student raised their hand. "Greenberg, put your hand down. Everybody knows you did the reading." Coach's eyes scanned the room, looking for someone to answer the question. "How about, uh - McCall." Both Scott and I raised our heads, looking back at Coach.

"Which one?" We both asked, making Coach run a hand through his hair.

"The dumb one." I smirked as I glanced back at Scott. Scott looked blankly back at Coach, already forgetting what he was asked. "The reading."

"Last night's reading?" Coach walked back to his desk as Scott furrowed his eyebrows.

"How about, uh, the reading of the Gettysburg Address?" The class snickered, as I looked back at Scott.

"What?"

"That's sarcasm. You familiar with the term 'sarcasm', McCall?" Scott turned to look back at Stiles, both of us staring at him.

"Very." Scott replied as he turned back to Coach, a small, knowing smile resting on Stiles' lips.

"Did you do the reading or not?" Coach asked, sighing.

"Uh..." Scott shifted through his papers. "I think I forgot."

"Nice work, McCall. It's not like you're not averaging a "D" in this class. Come on, buddy. You know I can't keep you on the team if you have a "D." How about you summarize, uh, the previous night's reading?" When Scott said nothing, Coach sighed, walking back around his desk. "No? How about the, uh, the night before that?" Scott remained silent but I could hear the heart rate monitor spiking in Stiles' bag. "How about you summarize anything you've ever read in your entire life?"

"I - I, uh..." Scott stammered. Stiles pulled the phone out of his bag, showing it to me. Scott's heart rate was going crazy.

"No? A blog? How about, uh, how about, uh, the back of a cereal box? No? How about the adults only warning from your favorite website you visit every night? Anything? Thank you, McCall, thank you. Thank you, McCall! Thank you for extinguishing any last flicker of hope I have for your generation. You just blew it for everybody. Thanks. Next practice you can start with suicide runs." I couldn't help but let Coach's words affect me as well. I am the only one who gets to torture my brother. I stood up suddenly, all eyes on me as I glared at Coach. "You got something you want to say McCall?" Coach asked, his voice still raised from yelling at Scott. I heard Scott's heart rate on the monitor start to slow down, but I was sure mine was rising.

"Yes." I felt someone put their hands on my shoulders as I looked back to see Stiles shaking his head. He nodded his head to Scott, who was looking up at me with wide eyes. His heart rate was normal now and I could see why. Allison held his hand gingerly, running her thumb over his hand soothingly. I sighed as I looked back at Coach, grimacing. "But I don't feel like getting suspended." I sat back down, Stiles' hands dropping from my shoulders. Coach calmed down, looking back at the board.

"All right. Everybody else, settle down." I rested my head in my hands, waiting anxiously for this class to be over.

"It's her." Stiles said as soon as we walked out of the classroom.

"What do you mean?" Scott asked, looking back at Stiles.

"It's Allison. Remember what you told me about the night of the full moon? You were thinking about her, right? About protecting her?" Scott nodded, shrugging.

"Okay?" I sighed as I looked back at my brother. Sometimes I wonder how we're related.

"Remember the night of the first lacrosse game? You said you could hear her voice out on the field."

"Yeah, I did."

"Well, so that's what brought you back so you could score. And then after the game in the locker room, you didn't kill her. At least not like how you were trying to kill me." I looked back at Stiles, shaking my head.

"She brings you back, is what he's saying." I told Scott, looking up at my brother.

"No, no, no, but it's not always true, because literally every time I'm kissing her or - or touching her..." Stiles shakes his head violently.

"No, that's not the same. When you're doing that, you're just another hormonal teenager thinking about sex, you know?" Scott had a large grin plastered to his face, which made my smile fall. "You're thinking about sex right now, aren't you?" Stiles asked, rolling his eyes.

"Yeah. Sorry." Scott's grin disappeared as he looked back at Stiles.

"Eww gross. I'm covering my ears now." I pouted as I covered my ears, really not wanting to hear my brother talk about sex. That's just too weird. Stiles and Scott rolled their eyes at me, Scott nudging me as we continued to walk. I uncovered my ears, looking back at them.

"Look, back in the classroom when she was holding your hand, that was different, okay? I don't think she makes you weak. I-I think she actually gives you control. She's kind of like an anchor."

"You mean because I love her." My eyes went wide and I couldn't help the large grin that rose to my face.

"Exactly." Stiles replied like it was nothing but Scott and I stopped.

"Did I just say that?" Scott's eyes were wide as he looked back at me.

"Yes, you just said that." Scott kept smiling as he looked down at me.

"I love her." I smiled back up at him, squeezing his hands.

"You're in love." I cooed as I looked over at Stiles. He didn't seem to care, shrugging at the two of us.

"That's great. Now, moving on..." Scott and I glared at Stiles.

"No, no, no, really. I think I'm totally in love with her." I couldn't stop smiling as I looked up at my lovestruck brother.

"And that's beautiful. Now, before you go off and write a sonnet, can we figure this out, please? Because you obviously can't be around her all the time." Scott nodded, his smile disappearing just a little bit.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry. So what do I do?"

"I don't know. Yet." Stiles turned around in a complete circle before stopping.

"Oh, no. You're getting an idea, aren't you?" I asked, making his eyes bounce back to mine. He sent me a small smile.

"Yeah."

"Is this idea gonna get me in trouble?" Scott asked. Stiles and I looked at each other.

"Maybe."

"Is this idea gonna cause me physical pain?" I chuckled as I looked between both of them, Stiles throwing his arms around our shoulders.

"Yeah, definitely. Come on."

Stiles led us out of the school, where he stopped, positioning himself in front of a truck. "What are we doing?" Scott asked. Stiles looked around, making sure no one was watching. Even I was confused at this point.

"You'll see. Hold on. Okay. Stand right there." Stiles moved Scott so that he was standing in front of the truck. "Do you have your keys?" Scott looked over at me and I sighed, taking the keys out of my backpack.

"I do. They are safer with me, since I won't lose them." Stiles smiled at me, taking the keys from my hand as he placed them into Scott's hand.

"Perfect. Hold 'em up like so. Now, whatever happens, just think about Allison. Try to find her voice like you did at the game. Got it?" Stiles grabbed my hand as we walked backwards. "Just - keep holding it right there." Stiles took his own keys out of his pocket and dragged them along the side of the truck, my eyes going wide. He pulled me back so I was standing next to him, away from the scene that was about to occur. "Hey, hey, hey, dude! What do you think you're doing to that truck, bro?" A group of guys turned around and looked at their truck.

"What the hell?" The guy walks over to Scott, punching him across the face. My hand went over my mouth as my eyes went wide.

"Well that looked like it hurt." Scott tried to fight back at first, but they were stronger than he was. I hated watching him get beat up. But this was a test. Stiles kept me busy by making me watch Scott's heart rate on the monitor. His heart rate was rising quickly.

They kept kicking Scott, who was curled up like a dead possum on the floor. His heart rate slowly started to go down and my breathing went back to normal. "Stop! Hey, stop it right now." The group of guys who were beating up Scott scattered, running away from Harris. He broke up the fight, bringing Scott to his feet. "What do you idiots think you're doing?" I held up the heart monitor, showing it to Scott with a proud smile.

Unfortunately for us, Harris gave us all detention.

The three of us sat in detention. My foot was tapping on the ground as I bit my lip, trying to focus on the assignment in front of me. That's all I could do. "Excuse me, sir?" Scott piped up, making all of us glance at him. "Uh, I know it's detention and all, but, uh, I'm supposed to be at work, and I don't want to get fired." Scott said, but Harris just glared at him before returning to whatever he had been doing before. I looked out the window, hearing the boys talking behind me. "You knew I would heal."

"Yep." Stiles replied.

"So you did that to help me learn?"

"Yep."

"But partially to punish me."

"Yeah. Well, that one's obvious." I chuckled a little bit as I looked back down at my paper.

"Dude, you're my best friend, and I can't have you being angry with me." Scott pleaded with him.

"I'm not angry anymore. Look, you have something, Scott. Okay? Whether you want it or not, you can do things that nobody else can do. So that means you don't have a choice anymore. It means you have to do something." I wanted to pipe in, just for the sake of agreeing with Stiles, but now wasn't the time.

"I know. And I will." Scott promised.

"All right, all of you, out of here." The three of us quickly packed away all our school stuff as we walked out.

"You're telling me that Deaton is the Alpha?" Scott had called Stiles, who picked us both up to go back to the school. It was way too late to be doing this, but I got dressed and went along for the ride. There was no way I was going to let those two have all the fun without me.

"Maybe." Scott answered as Stiles parked the jeep near the front of the school.

"This is a terrible idea." Stiles grumbled again. He had been repeating this phrase for the entire drive over.

"Yeah, I know." Scott admitted.

"But we're still gonna do it?"

"Can you think of something better?" Scott asked him. Stiles sighed, shrugging.

"Well, personally I'm a fan of ignoring a problem until eventually it just goes away." Stiles pretended to erase the air as I rolled my eyes at Stiles.

"Just make sure we can get inside." I folded my arms across my chest as we saw Derek's car pull up.

"Why did you let Bella come along?" Stiles asked Scott, as if I wasn't right there. I glared at the side of Stiles' face.

"Have you ever tried to tell her no?" Stiles looked back down at me, but didn't say anything else. Before walking over to Derek's car, Stiles grabbed some bolt cutters from the back of his car. I still wasn't too terribly fond of Derek, so I walked behind Scott and Stiles. Derek got out of his car, only glancing at us for a second. "Where's my boss?" Scott raised his hands.

"He's in the back." I glanced at the back seat. Deaton was tied up with duct tape covering his mouth.

"Oh, well, he looks comfortable." Stiles chuckled as Scott beckoned us to follow him.

"Wait. Hey. What are you doing?" Derek asked as Stiles handed Scott the bolt cutters.

"You said I was linked with the Alpha." Scott's eyes scanned the outside of the school before walking towards it. "I'm gonna see if you're right." Scott used the bolt cutters to cut open the lock on the school doors. Then the three of us walked into the school.

The school looked freaky at night. It felt like the beginning of a horrible scary movie. "Okay, one question. What are you gonna do if the Alpha doesn't show up?" Stiles asked. We entered the office as Stiles handed me a flashlight.

"I don't know." Stiles started messing around with the announcement controls.

"And what are you gonna do if he does show up?"

"I don't know." I ran a hand through my hair.

"I am going to kill both of you. Why do you two never come up with a plan before we get ourselves into situations like this?" I asked them, whisper yelling. Both of them looked at me and then at each other.

"All right. You said that a wolf howls to signal his position to the rest of the pack, right?" Stiles looked up at Scott, nodding.

"Right, but if you bring him here, does that make you part of his pack?" Stiles asked. I looked up at my brother, eyes wide. I hope not.

"I hope not." Scott sighs.

"Yeah, me too." I turned the volume all the way up, looking back at Scott. "All right. All you." Scott breathes in, letting out an ear-piercing noise that was not a howl, not even close to one.

"Was that okay? I mean, that was a howl, right?" Stiles and I looked at each other, as I tilted my head to the side.

"I - yeah, technically." Stiles admitted.

"Well, what did it sound like to you?" I breathed out, biting my lip.

"Well, like a cat being choked to death, Scott." Stiles quietly chuckled next to me, earning a glare from Scott.

"What do I do? How am I supposed to do this?" Scott looked frantically between me and Stiles. I offered him my hand and he took it as Stiles put his hands on Scott's shoulders.

"Hey, hey. Listen to me. You're calling the Alpha. All right? Be a man. Be a werewolf, not a teen wolf. Be a werewolf. Do it." Scott breathed in once more before letting out a loud roar. Stiles and I looked at each other, my eyes wide. That was loud. We ran out of the school, back to Derek, who was glaring at us like a mad-man. Though at this point, I couldn't remember a time when he wasn't glaring at us.

"I'm gonna kill all of you. What the hell was that? What are you trying to do, attract the entire state to the school?" Derek glared at us again as he started to pace around, back and forth in front of us.

"Sorry. I didn't know it would be that loud." Scott rubbed the back of his neck.

Stiles: Yeah, it was loud. And it was AWESOME." Stiles started bobbing his head with a grin. I smiled back at Derek as soon as I heard Stiles' voice pipe up.

"Shut up." Derek glared directly at Stiles.

"Don't be such a sour wolf, Derek." I scoffed back, folding my arms over my chest.

"What'd you do with him?" Scott said. We all looked behind Derek, where Deaton was not.

"What?" Derek looked behind him, staring back at his car. His car door was wide open and Deaton was nowhere to be seen. "I didn't do anything."

All of a sudden, something pierced through Derek's stomach, blood pouring from his mouth as he fell to the ground. My eyes went wide as the werewolf with red eyes stood behind him. I grabbed Stiles' hand, gripping it tightly as I let him drag me towards the school. The three of us ran into the school, closing the large doors behind us.

We were stuck inside the school. In the middle of the night.

Derek was most likely dead.

I was scared out of my mind.

But the worst part of the night was knowing that the Alpha was just outside those doors, waiting for us. And I don't think he's going to wait for long.
