Chapter 14

Stiles pulled up to my house after we had stopped at his house to pick up everything we needed for the full moon. I hate the full moon. It always makes me feel unsafe in my own house. I grabbed my backpack and Stiles grabbed the duffle bag as we made our way to the door. Stiles pulled out a key, making me shake my head. Of course he would have a key for my house. "Scott?" Mom called out as we walked into the house.

"Stiles." She gave him a weird look as she eyed the key but ignored it, walking over to me and kissing my forehead. I smiled at her.

"Key!" She pointed at the key in his hand, looking back at me. I raised my hands, shaking my head.

"Yeah. I had one made, so-" Stiles replied with a shrug.

"That doesn't surprise me. It scares me, but it doesn't surprise me." Mom said with a sigh as she grabbed her purse. She was leaving for the night shift at work. Stiles dropped the duffle he was holding and it hit the ground with a loud thud. "What is that?" She asked us with an eyebrow raised.

"Uh, school project." Stiles replied smoothly. He lied with so much ease that it almost scared me.

"Mmm. Stiles, he's okay, right?" She looked worried and I knew she was really worried about Scott. He had been acting weirder than usual and I was sure she noticed every bit of it. I knew everything going on with Scott and I was worried about him too. I could only imagine the worry she felt.

"Who? Scott? Yeah. Totally." Stiles' voice went a little high and I was sure my mom noticed but she didn't say anything.

"He just doesn't talk to me that much anymore, not like he used to." Mom replied quietly, looking back at me. She was really upset with all this. Scott and I used to talk to her about everything and now it just felt like all we ever did was lie to her.

"Well, he's had a bit of a rough week." Stiles shrugged. Both of us offered mom a small smile and she just nodded, needing to get to work.

"Yeah, yeah, I get it. Yeah, um - Okay, uh - Be careful tonight." She told us before opening her purse.

"You, too." Stiles and I commented at the same time as she fished for her keys out of her purse.

"Full moon." She continued to speak, breaking the silence that had filled the room.

"What?" Stiles and I yet again spoke at the same time. She couldn't mean... She couldn't possibly know... could she?

"There's a full moon tonight. You should see how the E.R. Gets. Brings out all the nut jobs." She said with a laugh as she made her way to the door. She gave my hand a squeeze, before opening the door. "You know, it's, um, actually where they came up with the word "lunatic."" Mom walked out of the house, locking the door behind her. Once she was gone, I let out a breath I didn't know I had been holding. Stiles grabbed the bag off the floor as we headed upstairs to Scott's room. Scott wasn't home yet and Stiles wanted to get a head start on this whole lock up thing. We walked into Scott's room, which was pitch black, so I flipped on the light. Both Stiles and I jumped back as we saw Scott sitting in his chair in the corner of the room.

"Oh, my God! Dude. You scared the hell out of me." Stiles smiled as he walked into the room. I scratched my head.

"I thought you weren't home." I said in confusion. That's what he had told us.

"I came in through the window." There was something off with Scott, enough so that I stayed in the doorway. This full moon change was getting out of control.

"Okay. Uh, well, let's get this set up. I want you to see what I bought." Stiles knelt down, going through his bag. Stiles could tell that there was something wrong with Scott. I could hear it in his voice too.

"I'm fine. I'm just gonna lock the door and go to bed early tonight." Stiles looked back at me and I could tell he knew I was nervous.

"You sure about that? 'Cause you've got this kind of serial killer look going on in your eyes, and I'm hoping it's the full moon taking effect, 'cause it's really starting to freak me and your sister out."

"I'm fine. You should go now." Scott sounded like a completely different person. Stiles looked back at me and I could see a plan hatching in his eyes.

"All right, I'll leave. Well, look, would you just at least look in the bag and see what I bought? You know, maybe you use it, maybe you don't. Sound good?" Scott slowly got up out of the chair and walked towards Stiles and the bag. He looked through the bag, picking up the large chains, glaring at me and Stiles. He looked pissed off.

"You think I'm gonna let you put these on and chain me up like a dog?" He asked angrily. I bit the inside of my cheeks.

"Actually, no." Stiles stated before lunging at my brother with a pair of handcuffs, locking him up to the radiator. My eyes widened as Scott started yanking at the handcuffs, trying to break free.

"What the hell are you doing?" Scott barked, glaring at the both of us as Stiles walked back towards me.

"Protecting you from yourself." Stiles answered. I could tell her was angry.

"And payback for making out with Lydia." I added, nodding my head at Stiles. "How could you do that to your best friend. He's been in love with her forever." And as much as it hurt to say it, I knew it was true. Stiles was in love with Lydia.

I was sitting on the floor, next to the door, staring at my brother. Stiles had gone to get water for Scott and I was left to babysit. I bit the inside of my cheeks, not wanting to say anything to him. It had been a long day and I just wanted the full moon to be over with already. "You're jealous." My brother said in a singsong tone. I glared at him, not bothering to comment. "You wish you were Lydia. She has Stiles' attention and you want it." I still didn't bother replying. "I could take her off the market for you."

"Scott, shut up." I glowered. "She doesn't even like you."

"She kissed me." He replied, smirking at me.

"What?" I asked him, a little confused.

"I didn't kiss her. She kissed me. She would have done a lot more, too. You should have seen the way she had her hands all over me. She would have done anything I wanted. Anything!" I really didn't need to hear all that but when I turned around to leave, I saw Stiles standing there. Scott wasn't saying any of that to get at me. He was saying it to bother Stiles. Stiles walked into the room with a water bottle.

"I brought you some water." He poured it into a doggy bowl that said Scott. I wasn't even sure where he got that. Neither of us has a dog. He put the dog bowl down in front of Scott and when he turned around to leave the room, Scott threw the bowl at his back. Stiles just ignored it, leaving my brother's room.

"I'm gonna kill you!" Scott yelled.

"You know, the past three hours, I've been thinking, it's probably just the full moon, you know, he doesn't even know what he's doing, and tomorrow, he'll be totally back to normal. He probably won't even remember what a complete dumbass he's been. A son of a bitch, a freakin unbelievable piece of crap friend." Stiles replied, his voice full of anger. Then he walked out of the room, sitting down outside, next to the door frame. I sighed, leaving my brother in his room all alone, not having anything left to say to him.

I sat next to Stiles on the ground outside of Scott's room. I rested my head on his shoulder, trying my best to ignore Scott's cries for help. I took deep breaths, playing with the hem of my shirt to keep myself distracted. "Iz, please let me out. It's the full moon, I swear. You know I wouldn't do any of this on purpose. You're my sister. I would never hurt you on purpose." When I didn't answer, Scott kept trying. "Please, Stiles, let me out. It's starting to hurt. It's not like the first time. It's the full moon. It's Allison breaking up with me. I know- That it's not just taking a break. She broke up with me. And it's killing me. I feel completely hopeless. Just, please, let me out." I looked back at Stiles, my eyes welling up. This was too much for me. I hated letting him hurt like this.

"I can't." Stiles said quietly. I couldn't tell if he was talking to me or Scott. Scott then started to scream out in anguish, making me shut my eyes tightly as I hid my head in Stiles' shoulder.

"No, no, no!" I covered my ears but I could still hear him. Soon the tears started to fall, no matter how hard I willed them not to. Scott was panicking and I could tear him trying to get away, but he was stuck to the radiator.

Then the screaming stopped and it was silent for a minute. Stiles and I both jumped up and I pushed the tears away from my eyes. "Scott, are you okay? Scott?" Stiles pushed open the door and we walked inside, only to see that Scott was no longer there. The handcuffs were lying on the floor and I mentally punished myself for thinking he wouldn't be able to break them open. There was a little bit of blood on the floor and I knew his screaming was only to distract us from his escape. The window was wide open. Scott was gone.

Stiles and I had been driving for a while, searching for Scott. We had no such luck. I was stressed out, thinking the worst possible things. It was the full moon and Scott was more out of control than usual. He could kill innocent people. The alpha could get to him and make him kill us all. But even worse than that, what if he was killed by hunters? I felt like screaming until Stiles put his hand in mine, rubbing his thumb lightly over my skin. "It'll be ok. I'm sure he's fine." I looked over at him and he glanced at me quickly before turning his head back to the road. "We're going to find him." He told me, keeping my hand in his. My heart was pounding in my chest.

"What's that?" I asked, pointing at the flashing lights and the blaring sirens. He drove towards them, stopping the car when we saw the scene in front of us. Stiles' face fell as we jumped out of the car. "Dad? Dad?" We walked through the crowd of offices, searching for Sheriff Stilinski. "Has anyone seen my- has anyone seen my dad?" Stiles was beginning to panic. In front of us, in the ambulance, there was a burnt hand hanging off the stretcher. I gulped, looking away immediately.

"Stiles. Isabella. What are you doing here?" Both of us turned around to see Sheriff Stilinski walking towards us, dragging us away from the dead body. Stiles just pulled him into a hug, not saying a word.

After Stiles was finished talking with his dad, he drove me home. We still hadn't found Scott and I wasn't sure I really wanted to be home right now. Stiles disregarded my protests of staying out to search for Scott, telling me I needed to get some sleep. "What if he's out there, dead or something?" I asked Stiles, refusing to get out of the jeep. He looked back at me and sighed.

"He isn't dead Bella." I sighed, pouting a little. "He will show up Bella. Please, get some rest."

"But..." Stiles gave me a look and I stopped talking.

"Good night Bella. Call me if you need anything." I nodded, getting out of the jeep. I peeped back into the jeep, smiling at Stiles. It was a small tired smile, but it was a smile.

"Good night Stiles."
