Monsters and Teenagers

Exasperatedly slouched in his cushioned pillow stacked throne, Ludo drug his stubby claws down his cheeks as he squabbled over the pathetic show of recruits he'd spent all day interviewing, "Next! Next! Next! These idiots are even dumber than you idiots!"

Thunk.

"West Mewnin swamp water."

Mid temple rub and Ludo followed up the grey two fingered hand that shoved the filthy delicacy to him across the table top.

"Or do you drink from the bottle?" Craning himself back into the stack of pillows Ludo finally met the golden deep set eyes of the Septarian standing before him. Conjured like out of the shadows as both monsters to the side of Ludo shrugged. All unaware where this intruder came from.

"On days like this..." Ludo outreached his petite arms to bring the offering closer.

"Tell me about it," deep sultry calmness in the lizard monsters voice as he did not waiver, only watching the little bird man do as he did.

"Oh I'll-" Ludo stopped with gargling as he dipped his beak into the glass to scoop up a decent drink of the swamp water, "-tell you about it. I've been trying to steal a wand from a teenager."

Ludo's guest gave a slight inclining nod, "Yes, trying to get to something that is rightfully yours can be, frustrating."

"It's harder than it ought to be- Wait-" Ludo's beady eyes narrowed on the suited figure across from him, "Where did you come from?"

"I let myself in."

"When?"

"After you hired me."

Ludo's head cocked to the side, "I hired you?"

"I accept."

"Excellent!" Ludo flung himself off the stack of pillows he'd perched on his chair, right across the desk to snatch up the two fingered hand of the collected lizard man. Shaking it profusely like he'd coned the best deal though his new employee showed none of the exaggeration.

"Good," the suited stranger let a slight smile curl on his snout, "We'll start tomorrow."

As he'd washed in with such mystery, such as his exist. Ludo and his henchmen suddenly shaking hands with no one but an empty room, "Uhh-" Ludo voice cracked as his hand remained extended to nothing, "Did anyone by chance catch his name?"

"Boss-" his henchman motioned to the matte black card stuck in the onesided handshake Ludo held.

Turning the almost heavy black card face up, Ludo slowly read off the sole imprint on it's face, "Toffee..I guess his name is Toffee."

"Marco! Marco! Marco!" Jittering right out of her cute little boots Star careened into her partner in crime as she stormed the classroom.

"Star what?!" Unhinging himself from the mess Star had flung herself into him, Marco scowled the moment he saw her set down a double sized box of fortune cookies, "Star how many times do I gotta-"

"I know! I know! I know! Tiny people paper not real blah blah blah!" Frothing with excitement she produced a pristine folded cookie from the top of her pile, "But hear me out! Listening to these little fortunes has been the best decision of my life!"

"Star, they're cookies." Marco shook his head looking on a his best friend crack open the stale little thing minutes before the bell was going to ring, "Put those away! We're going to get in trouble and it took me ages to get us this elective together!"

"New things will come your way!" Star exclaimed between shoving the cookie bits into her cheeks.

"Star!"

"But this class Marco! The cookies!"

"They're meant to be vague and read into!"

"Ohohohoho-!"

"Oh no." Marco face palmed as the mischievous chuckle meant nothing but trouble.

"Look!" Star slinked up to the edge of Marco's desk.

"A cookie, oh boy, not like you haven't been eating them constantly since-"

"Not the cookie! The fooooortune," she gurgled with uncontrollable excitement as Star forced the tiny piece of paper into Marco's face.

Snatching the paper from her sticky fingers Marco did his best to decipher the smudged ink Star was floundering herself over, "...Go for it. Today is the day to venture out to the unknown. Star what does this even-"

"It means look!" Slapping sticky hands on both sides of Marco's face, Star forced him to crank his neck to the back seats in the class towards the sea of unenthused faces.

"Star they're just our-"

"Her!" Star hissed and pushed Marco's face to the left with a slight shake to make him focus on the upperclassmen she was fawning over.

"You mean-" Marco began like totally recognized the senior was in his pocket of faces and names he'd amassed during years and years of public school, "Wait- I mean-"

"Exactly Marco! You don't even know her name!" Star expounded on her point, "She's the only one I haven't made a friend!"

"Star you don't have to be fri-"

"I must talk to her! The cookie says it's time to do the unimaginable!"

"Maybe she's shy, Star you can't just-" Marco snagged his over zealous comrade by the hem of her dress, "Star wait- Why would you talk to her now? She doesn't even look like she wants to talk, I mean-"

"Shhh shh shh-" Star stuffed her finger against Marco's lips, "Oh dear Marco, didn't you notice? I wanted in this class exactly for that." Star's bright blue eyes hone in on the stranger no more sitting three desks away totally oblivious, "I wanted to take this class so I could have a reason to talk to her! I've made friends with every single person in this school, even the counselor and he was just a snitch for Tom!"

"Pff Tom-" Marco didn't stifle the gut reaction to snort at Star's mention of her ex.

"Exactly my point! Look at her!" Star pointed her wand at the dirty blonde girl sucked away in her own bubble in class, "I will not one human go unfriended! I have the cookies on my side!"

"They're not real Star," he reiterated about the fortune cookies the Mewni princess had been hoarding for the past forty eight hours.

"The coooookiiieessss~" Star waved her limp wrists towards Marco as she moon walked backwards towards the desk in question.

"Get us kicked out on our first day, that's fine Diaz. We didn't want this class anyways." Marco sighed and turned to ignore the chaos that may ensue.

Gliding with the utmost stealth Star kept honed in on target. Set like a missle. Star dodged an elbow from a roughhousing football player. Ducked under the feet of a senior taking up more than their fair share of desks. Nothing about to stop the little freshman. Nothing but the cold inquisitive stare of her target just as Star slithered up next to her.

"Ooof-!" Toe of her boot caught in the backpack loop of the desk right before her target, Star bit it face first into the ground before the upperclassmen's feet.

"Oh my god are you ok?!"Unlike the wave of snickers from the rest of the juniors and seniors, Star's target dropped down and offered a hand to the kid laying flat on her face, "You ate it pretty hard kid are you-"

"Star Butterfly!" Yanking herself away the offered help, Star hopped up without question, "I- I'm Star Butterfly-"

Suddenly self conscious of all the classroom laughter, Star whipped around to Marco who wore nothing short of his deer in the headlights look and sunk back down in his chair like every ounce of social life depended on it. Catching glimpses of all the faces looking at her. So much older. So much wiser. Star began to shrink away and abort mission completely.

"Elly"

"Elly?" Star's eyes focussed back on the girl she'd approached.

"Star." she pointed a pale finger at Star, then nodded, "Elly" And followed to point at herself and nod with a smile, "It's my name."

Glistening achievement in puppy dog eyes, it took Star blinking a couple dozen times before she registered it, "I knew it!"
"Hah my name?" Elly smiled as she didn't quite follow.

"What- No! No that you were a friend! Marco didn't think so!" No chance Star pointed out to the other underclassmen trying to dig his way into the ground.

"There goes my life-" Marco squeaked, face flooded red as all eyes flew to him.

"Ahaha friends? I mean, I won't bite your finger off." Elly giggled pushing a stray dark blonde curl behind her ear, "You wanted to be friends with me?"

"My cookie said this was the best way!" Star proudly produced the slightly torn and smudged fortune she'd squirreled away in her tiny star purse.

"Fortune cookies! I love those little things!"

"Here have some magic cookies!" Star produced a stale cookie from her pockets where there were countless others.

"Ahaha magic cookies?" Elly let Star drop the confection in her palm, "Little mind readers!"

"Exactly!" Star's cheeks lit up as Elly seemed to fulfill all the human qualities she'd hope to find, "Here!" Star grabbed her by the sleeve and urged the senior to come up with her, "Sit with us! Please! Here, here, Marco say hi!"

No way to stay out of Star's sucking vortex of energy, Marco turned around to look up at the upperclassmen, "H-Hi- I'm...I'm Marco." Sheepishly he extended a hand not expecting anything but to be snubbed.

"Hi Marco," Startled his hand was met with a firm handshake and grey eyes lightening down on him, "I'm Elly."

"Ehehehehe making besties all the time-!" Star snickered with little attempt to stop as her hands shot up to cover her chortling.

"Star," Marco scowled momentarily at the bubbling mess that was the princess. Readverting his eyes to the girl Star sat down right behind him with a quizzical look, "Your- Not bothered?"

"By what?" Elly confused by Marco's question.

"We're freshmen, your-"

"Going to be quiet or else this entire course gets a pop quiz!" With commanding entering power suddenly sprung on the rustling class by a sharp dressed older man slamming his suitcase on the table.

Fear washing over the room as they sunk back into their chairs and watched with fear as the newly arrived teacher scanned over the new and old faces of the classroom. Everyone's breath held in.

"Surprise!" their teacher through up his arms and in sync came a collective sigh, "We don't do pop quizzes in ancient history! We only have fun!"

Short order the class erupted with excited murmuring and Marco could let out his withheld breath, "Phew I thought for a second there-"

"Problem Mr. Diaz?" On que the teacher turned to tower down on the quivering mess of lower classmen cowering under the gaze of a teacher.

"N-No problem here!" Star jumped into the mess. Wit on her feet she glanced back at her new friend and then her old friend, a sudden light bulb in her mind, "Marco is just excited for our sleepover with Elly tonight!"

"Sleepover?" Marco and Elly echoed as both had an eyebrow shoot up unexpected.

"Yeah! Yeah, I mean yeah our sleepover!" Star through herself between both parties and hooked them in a tight elbowing hug. "We just couldn't believe it's finally here!"

The farce was slipping as the teacher raised a questioning hand to his lip and tapped the chalk to his chin. Second best on their feet Elly bounced off Star, "Mr. Z it's this cuties fiftieth day on earth! And she picked me to help her through a little get together, I mean how cool is that I get to be in charge of a sleepover!?"

All three biting their fingernails metaphorically as her lie sat a moment before soaking into their teacher, "...that's great Elly! See that one planning class sophomore year really is going to pay off for you!"

In conjunction all three exhaled slowly as the teacher bought it and came right off their case for talking in class. Sealed silent for the rest of the class. Until Star caught a glimpse of Elly and Marco to look at her.

'Sleepover~!' Star hissed under her breathe.

'Star-' Marco permanent scowl as he glanced back at the newbie.

'Sleeeeeeepoooover!' she insisted starring with desperately sad eyes at Marco and then to Elly.

Both high schoolers looked at each other, back to Star then once more at each other. Finally they sighed and gave the princess a slight nod in agreement to the impromptu sleepover.

'Sleeeeepoooooovvvvverrrrr~!"
