friends and foe (continued)

usually. you wouldn't mind your friend coming over for a while, but this was not at all okay, a new friend was in high danger and Abigail had invited her in. she could feel an uneasiness, the same feeling she felt when they first came in.

''are you worried?'' Sam asked, concerned

abigail sighs. ''no.''

the doorbell rang, there was later sounds of nearly inaudible talking. abigail's mom later called down

''rylie!'' she hugged her new friend ''your.... early''

''yep! and I'm fully ready! sleepover?"

''isn't that why your here?'' Abigail took a glance at her bookbag, who knew what she kept in there ''dinner?''

''sure! what's cooking?"

''one moment-'' she looks over and walks into the kitchen, it was completely dark ''....C.C.?''

the pipes on the ceiling seemed like it was suddenly moving in the dark. as a soft and erire voice answers ''C.C. is currently off duty as of tonight. so im in charge''

''who are you...?''

''a friend"

Abigail covers her ears with her hands, realizing this is going to take a long while, ''im going outside" she turns but the door is suddenly locked in

''nooo! you cant go out!" the voice hissed

''with all those death traps around that's why i'm going out there to help you" the pipes above suddenly move wildly, cracking and spattering blood. suddenly a long dog-like creature tumbles out of the pipe, pushing its way through the roof in a big rush of muscle and flesh.

"I'm scared" she cried. that was probably the best thing, as it inched closer, crackling like her mom's hair dryer. suddenly the whole roof collapses around them. as well as the ceiling collapsing behind her.

''cc!?'' no- it was Sam, he looked worried as heck, but something had crashed onto him, along with the rest of the ceiling, but he was pretty fine. they looked at each other for a second, then shrugged. she didn't blame him. it looked as though they were trapped in the safest place she could think of. they were going to have to make a few adjustments though.

as she got up to her feet she started collecting all the things she knew how to use and created a small set of tools. among the bobby pins, safety pins, paint rollers, scissors and ribbons she found among the debris of the kitchen. her hair was pulled back into a long ponytail so she didn't have to worry about getting blood on her shirt. well, she could handle looking a little worse for the wear. she looked at him, so close she could feel his breath on her neck, maybe she should have asked him to help her. but she had been brave enough to do this on her own. so she pushed through the wreckage to where he was crouching, speaking softly ''i'm okay ..thanks for r- rescuing me though''

she grinned and was about to ask how he was when she saw his face as he began to talk ''i'm sorry abby..i should have t- told you..'' but she couldn't hear anything

even though she knew she should be angry, because he had just saved her life. she couldn't blame him. what else was he going to do? what would he say?

''it's okay Sam'' she whispered "but why didn't you tell me though?" she let out a soft chuckle. ''I'm not the only one with secrets right? i think i should go now" with that she turned and exited the area. and as she walked out of the room, there was silence, except for the sound of the wind....

sam walked up behind abigail, momentarily startling her, but she laughed it off. ''what in the world was that?''

''kila, the main system of the hotel, they run everything here, except at night well.. things get weird'' she stood there quietly thinking, then she remembered, her cheeks turning slightly red. She turned, half walking back to her room and half keeping pace with sam, nervous for some reason. She kept looking at him and she fumbled for the words to say. Then, realizing she had no idea what to say, she stopped and just looked at him.

"Sam.." she finally whispered, getting up the courage to continue. She took a deep breath, and took a step closer to him, but he didn't seem to notice her, his attention was more focused at the end of the hallway. His eyes were drawn to the larger of the two rooms.

"i happen to know something about this.." he began, gesturing at the door. "they were both here the same day.. there was a gentleman named james connes who was a pilot, something to do with some secret air force, he was sent here to check out the transport system.. and.. and.. i think something" happened to him in the hotel, then the lady was also here.." he waved his hand in the air, as if he were trying to remember.

''what are you talking about?'' she tilted her head in confusion

"there was a girl too.. she was.. kind of.." he shifted his attention, looking at her. "your not the kind of girl that brings guys back from the dead are you?"

abigail blushed lightly at that, her cheeks becoming bright red and she turned away from him. "well.." she whispered, turning back to him. "you've made that quite clear. With that, she turned and went into her room. He stood there watching her go.

Suddenly, a noise caught her attention. Someone walking up the hall. she ran to the door and opened it. rylie stood in the hall and stared at her. Sam was also in the hall, he was startled

"what.." she had no idea how to begin. the encounter with Kila in the kitchen had completely turned her off of the idea that her ghost hunting obsessed friend was even here. she pointed at the bunny as he glared back

''its not what you thin-''
''you're Damn right!'' she pulled on Sams ear, he hissed loudly towards rylie, prompting her to let go of his ear. ''i was getting ready to go inside when I heard the racket ''

''alright, that makes it a hell of a lot more believable''

Sam just stared at her for a moment, before he shrugged and proceeded to step out of the way. Rylie, however, hadn't stopped. she walked into the room and picked up a clock. She put it on the desk beside Sam and nodded towards abigail

''so, hows it going?" she chuckled and moved around to face the younger girl.

''you should see" she said nodding her head in anger, making the small girl angry in turn. ''and so we don't have much of a choice." she put her arm around abigail's shoulders and walked out the door, closing it behind them.

freaked out, abigail practically ran the rest of the way to her room. She sat on the bed and held her head in her hands. It was just a game, there was no reason to let herself get so stressed over it. But she couldn't help but worry about it...

no idea what's going on.
