Prologue - Zara

The chains that held us in place zinged with electrical currents, prepared to strike us down if we even blinked in the wrong direction. The prisoner transport vehicle was specifically designed to hold us. The whole thing was made out of athratos, a metal that could not be penetrated by any forces. Not even by the most powerful of ones.

I shifted in my seat and viewed those around us, most kept their eyes to the ground. Broken. For a tiny vehicle, it was packed to the brim.

My eyes slid over to a guy who stared right back at me, he had impaling blue eyes that almost seemed to glow in the dimly lit van. He was glaring right at me, the only emotion I could read coming from his cold stare. I lifted my chin and glared right back, he merely scoffed and turned away.

I smirked at his reaction and leaned back in the hard chair.

"Where are we going already?!" Yelled out a girl I didn't recognize.

The girl that shouted had pale skin like she had not seen the sun in her whole life. Her white hair was in an unruly pixie cut, and she had silver eyes that gleamed with danger.

Then there were the scars, they littered her body. Covering every inch of her skin, going across her cheeks and arm in deep slashes.

She received a large shock in response. Her body convulsing and shaking, the person next to her leaned away fear flickering in their eyes.

"Prisoner #3467D is makin' a damn scene again captain." The guard spoke into his wrist, his Irish accent was heavy.

"Is the prisoner using disabilities?" A voice answered back, coming from his wrist.

"Nah"

"Hold fire." People around us visibly relaxed, but the guard tightened his grip on the gun anyways.

I clench my jaw, it shouldn't have been a surprise. From what we knew the rules had changed, originally they wanted to help us adapt to fit in with society. A bunch of bullshit if you asked me. Now they seemed to want us dead, or in a place where we couldn't cause chaos.

About an hour or two of total silence passed before the transport slowed down. The guard shifted and I watched his movements. We were close. Then almost on cue, the van took a sudden stop, if it weren't for the chains that held us in place, people would have probably fallen to the floor.

The doors of the van flung open to reveal multiple guards, all armed to the teeth. They clicked their key cards to a pad on the wall, and our feet shackles flung open. The guards piled into the van and lurched people up to their feet, grabbing them by the arms and shirts.

I stood up to my feet before one could grab me, and glared up at the guard's masked face. He looked down at me before shoving me in the direction of the exit. All of us were so jam-packed that it was a struggle for a single person to get out the back doors.

The constant stream of demands from the guards was overwhelming, not to mention the bloody guard dogs. Yipping and nipping at our feet, god I wanted to kick it in its stupid ugly face.

After what felt like the most stressful fifteen minutes of my life the guards force us into a single file line leading to a white door on the side of the building. The crash of the gate doors and the humming of the electrical currents confirm my worst suspicions. This is home.
