tired bambi

Brotherly fluff. James and Sirius are Aurors now. There will be Brooklyn 99 references lol.

Sirius POV

James is fine, completely fine, and then suddenly he isn't.

Halfway through a day at the Auror office, James's eyes are cloudy, wide open, and he's brimming with a delirious sort of excitement. He's been that way for a few days, his mind in another world, too restless to sit down, but this is different. It's...worse.

"...and that is why I'm fairly fucking sure there's a mole and someone on our team is an imposter."

James, for the third time this week, is ranting in a paranoid frenzy. I can only listen and watch in immense concern as James babbles on and on, his hands flapping in agitation.

Tee, the Head Auror, can only look at James with a stoic face of concealed worry. When James takes a breath and pauses in his near shouting to tug on his hair, Tee clears his throat. "I agree with you, Potter. And I thank you for bringing this to my attention. I must ask, have you taken a lunch break today?"

James's eye twitches. "I'm too busy, sir.'

Tee nods. "While I appreciate and very much admire your enthusiasm, Potter, your breaks aren't optional. Go take one and make yourself some tea, or Merlin help me."

James gets to his feet, face full of admiration. I hide a smirk. Tee is a genius, he knows exactly how to make James do what he wants. "Of course, sir"

Tee grins a little. "Haven't I told you to cut the 'sirs'?"

"Of course sir! I'm sorry, sir! Oh. I did it again. Oh! Lunch!"

The deer scampers off, and Tee drops his façade. "Black, has he acted this way before?

I shake my head. "He's a high strung person, but I've never seen this before."

He blows air out through his cheeks. "I think we have reason to believe he could be a danger to himself. So as much as I hate doing this, I'm sending him home for a few days."

Later that day, James is called back in, and he leaves fifteen minutes later. He sprints over to me, ear to ear. "I got awarded paid time off, Sirius! And you know that really old case no one's ever been able to solve? I did it all on my break! I'm so amazing, Sirius. He said you two caught the mole, too? YES! This is amazing!"

James rambles on and on, until I gently nudge him towards his office. "Better pack your stuff up then, yeah?"

The overexcited deer prances on his way out, jubilantly greeting everyone.

The next day, Tee owls me to ask me to keep an eye on James. I contact him through the mirror, worried when Lily answers instead. "Sirius?"

"Is James okay? Is he home?"

She laughs a little. "He's vacuuming the curtains."

I snicker, and then realize she might not be joking. "Wait, really?"

Lily giggles. "He's so fascinated with the damn thing, it's adorable really. Sirius...is James acting...very strange?"

I nod fervently. "He's gotten paid time off because the Head Auror is worried for him."

Lily gets distracted, and her face turns stern. "James, put that down! Oh for...got to go, the vacuum got stuck to his head."

I'm still snickering when she comes back, James behind her. "SIRIUS!"
