Elias Artino: Chapter 04

Marion, Delphine and me sat in the office waiting for the two other transfer students. They were taking.. longer than expected, but I was confident they would come. Marion and Delphine assured me that no one minds my stuttering and that I shouldn't be afraid to talk. Still, I was nervous. The only two people I have talked to this week was those two girls.

Talking to boys was more nerve racking than talking with girls. I don't know what it was, but boys were just hard to talk to. I wasn't interested in sports or anything and struggled to keep up with the male standards.

I groaned. These boys are taking forever! I thought.

Next to me, Delphine looked forward with an annoyed, bored look. "They are late." she said.

The office door flung open to reveal two large figures.

They were both boys. One was blonde with striking features. He looked like a European model— but then again, all Europeans are beautiful so I wouldn't know. The boy next to him had brown hair, a softer face and tan skin. From what I could tell, he was mixed and had a beautiful complexion. Milky brown skin and a pair of beautiful brown eyes. They were both tall and were dressed well. If I was them, I would show everything off.

"Sorry for being late." the brunette apologized. His nose crinkled up and his eyes met mine for a brief second before looking away. Did I smell? I questioned, giving him an odd look.

"I'm Kuro." the brunette introduced.

"I'm James." the blonde introduced.

I nodded. "A-and I'm Elias. These two are Marion and Delphine. I'll be giving you a t-tour of the school." I said, standing up. The two boys towered over me and left me feeling awkward. I could tell that they spoke different languages than English. Though their accents were subtle, if you really listened, you could hear it.

We all walked out of the office and I first led them to the lunchroom.

"This is where we eat?" Kuro asked.

"Yes?" I responded, a bit confused as to why his tone seemed shocked.

"This is jail. The tables are small and everything is dirty." he said. James snickered at that.

"Of course everything here is dirty. It's America. The land of the free!" James exclaimed. His blue eyes diverted to me. It was then I noticed that it wasn't just blue but also green. As soon as those eyes met mine, I was taken aback by how beautiful they were. "Isn't that right, Elias?" his tone was teasing.

"U-uhm yes?"

"If you are Greek, why are you blonde?" James asked.

"H-huh?"

How did two people know I'm Greek when I didn't say anything about it? My name barely gave anything away and being blonde has nothing to do with being Greek!

"I'm Greek. Greeks are not blonde." James said, a bit of his accent peaking through.

"T-then why are you blonde?" I asked.

"That's a good question."

Okay.. what was going on here? It seemed like he was talking just to talk. Nothing he was saying was making sense, but then again, he's a transfer student whose English is a bit rough.

I ignored him and continued in with the tour. James and Kuro were talking to each other the whole time and completely tunings me out. Luckily for me, Marion and Delphine were actually paying attention. Was I getting too boring for them? I was trying my hardest and they still weren't listening.

By the end of the tour, it was time to go home. We had ended in the gymnasium so the walk back would be pretty long. I would definitely be missing my bus ride.

"A-alright that's it. You guys can go back now." I said. "I have to go to the office to tell them we're done."

Marion and Delphine wished me a good day and left, but James and Kuro stayed put.

"W-why are you two still here?" I asked.

"We have a questions." James said. Kuro rolled his eyes and nudged James.

"It's we have questions you fucking dunce." he swore. "Practice your English."

Kuro glanced at me and pushed James out of the way. "Ignore him. I'll talk since he can't say a single sentence in English right." James gave him a side eye and bared his teeth, his canines unexpectedly sharp. They resembled a vampire almost. It reminded me of something but I couldn't quite place it.

Kuro took a step forward until we were almost touching. He bent down and sniffed my color, causing me to flinch from the proximity. What the fuck?! I thought. "U-uhm what do you want?" I said, slightly nudging him away. Kuro didn't even flinch. He was as hard as a stone and as tall as a mountain. Someone like me couldn't simply push him away.

"You smell like one," Kuro said, his nose crinkled up into a disgusted snarl, "but you aren't."

His eyes slimmed as he stared at me.

"Who's claimed you?" Kuro asked.

"What a-are you talking about?" I asked, denying eye contact with him. My heart was beating. Their faces were no longer ones of amusement, but they were serious. It was like everything changed in a single second by a light switch. James and Kuro— they were scary. Some part of me was screaming at me to run away and another part of me was curious as to whatever they were doing.

Kuro gripped me by my collar and I yelped as he tilted my chin up.

"Don't pretend. The smell may be subtle but we're not stupid. Are you one of them? Are you planning to hurt our kind?" Kuro asked, this time his tone harsher. I struggled against his grip and whined with his fist tightened.

"W-what— I don't understand.."

"Who is it? Who did you force?" Kuro wasn't asking now, he was demanding me to answer.

"I don't understand!" I screamed, praying that someone would find me and help.

James stood behind Kuro and intently watched me. Kuro turned back to James and pulled him forward. "Is he lying?" he asked, giving me a cold look.

"No he's not." James strongly said, "he has no idea what we're talking about."

I was dropped to the ground which caused me to whine out in pain.

"How is that fucking possible?" Kuro asked, running a hand through his hair.

"I don't know, but if someone voluntarily claimed him, we can't leave him out for someone to steal. I can smell it on him. It's not a horrible stench, it's strong and almost assertive. Someone whose blood is strong wanted him, but I don't think they had the chance to complete it." James said. He looked me up and down.

"Sorry Elias. Forget everything we said." Kuro apologized.

Before I knew it, I was left alone in the gymnasium.

What the fuck just happened?
