3rd person: Chapter 01.

Elias sat right next to Kaiden, holding the other boys hand and licking on his ice cream. It was mint chocolate— his favorite. It was specifically the green kind because who likes mint chocolate when it isn't green? Rhetorical question— no one!

"I'm hungry." Kaiden complained. Elias noticed that he wasn't eating his ice cream. The boy seemed to be struggling and contemplating something.

Elias beamed at his friend. "We can go to my house and eat! After that we can play superhero!" the blonde haired boy exclaimed. His green eyes were wide and excited, his cheeks rising up into a cute, chubby smile.

"What do you have at home to eat?" Kaiden asked.

"Well my mommy's making Calamari." Elias said.

"Is that the nasty squid fish thingy?"

Elias frowned. "That's mean. Mama said it's about of my culture!"

Kaiden groaned and pouted, giving his friend a hesitant look. "I don't want that kind of food." he complained and kicked his feet out of anger. "I'm really hungry!"

"Then you can have some of my ice cream!" Elias said, pushing a soggy, melted ice cream toward the other boy. Kaiden gave him a bored look and gagged. Elias scowled. "Fine, let's play instead and then you'll forget about ever being hungry."

"Okay. Let's go to the forest." Kaiden said. He stood up and dragged Elias with him, away from their parent's vision. Previously, they had been in a park eating ice cream together.

Kaiden and Elias's mothers were sat at a bench a bit far from them but still close enough to see their every move. Kaiden had inherited most his mother's features. Pitch black hair and black eyes. Their skin was awfully pale but it simply made them look like celebrities or like they had natural makeup. It was hard to see any emotion behind their eyes. Black eyes were absorbent. It sucked in all light yet it was filled with warmth.

Elias really liked those eyes.

"Follow me." Kaiden said as he dragged Elias towards a forest full of green. There was a fence blocking anyone from entering, but since they were small the two boys were able to under the fence easily.

Elias hesitantly looked back at their mothers. "Shouldn't we tell them where we're going?" he asked.

"Who cares." Kaiden said boredly.

They were young, at least 9 or 10. They weren't stupid. They knew what they were doing was wrong.

Elias ducked under a bush and his ice cream stumbled out of his hand. "No!" he cried out, "my ice cream!."

"You'll get over it." Kaiden said, rolling his eyes. "Anyway let's try to find the lake. I want to see if the water rose."

Elias gave his friend a strange look. "Lakes and you are so boring. Nature weirdo."

"Lonely freak." Kaiden retorted.

"Hey!"

"What?"

"That was mean!"

"I'm just starting the obvious. I'm your only friend."

Elias pouted. "You're the only one I ever want to be with."

Unexpectedly, Elias tripped over a rock and stumbled onto the dirt, grass prickling his skin. He yelped as he fell and tried to latch onto Kaiden but only brought the boy down with him.

They both fell onto the ground and Elias's knee scrapped across a rock, causing him to whine in pain. "Ouch!" Elias groaned. He wiped the dirt off of his knee, exposing a violent cut and blood. He wasn't a big fan of blood, and for a 9 year old without his mother, getting a boo-boo was his biggest worry.

Tears fell from his eyes and onto his clothes as Elias gripped his knee. "It hurts!" he wailed.

"Don't be dramatic, it's just a scrap.." Kaiden started but quickly trailed off. He eyed the wound and bit hard on his bottom lip, trying to stop himself from doing something.

"C-can you get mommy?" Elias asked as he glanced at Kaiden. The other boy wasn't even looking at him, his pitch-black eyes trained on the wound.

"You don't need your mom." Kaiden said. "I'll help you."

Elias gave him a reluctant look but slowly nodded. The other boy gently blew on the wound, easing some of Elias's pain. Suddenly, a wet sensation replaced the pain on his wound.

Elias looked down to see Kaiden's tongue licking up the blood seeping through his cut.

"W-what  are you doing?!" he shouted. Kaiden pushed him down so he could continue with whatever.. this was.

Elias hated to admit it, but it was soothing. He felt his wound closing up and feeling better than it ever has before. It was a weird sensation.. but enjoyable.

But the boy was young and any intimate things like hugs or little kisses that weren't from his mother was weird.

Elias quickly pushed Kaiden off of him and looked down at his fresh cut, expect it was no longer there. There was nothing there.

"Thanks Elias." Kaiden said, a bright smile on his face. "Even though it wasn't a lot, I'm not that hungry now."

Elias gave the boy a weary look.

"Okay.."

When the boys arrived back to their mothers, Elias noticed something off about Kaidens mom. She was scolding him for something.

In a hushed voice, Elias heard Kaidens mother arguing with him.

"But I was hungry!" Elias heard Kaiden say.

"It doesn't matter, Kai! You were in the woods. You led Elias into a totally different territory. You're far too young to understand what I'm saying, but people like us can't enter the woods. There's a treaty, Kaiden, and I will not be the one to break it." his mother said. Elias knew her as Auntie Mary.

"But I just wanted to play with Elias.." Kaiden whimpered, tears brewing at the ends of his eyes.

His mother sighed, "It would've been fine if Elias went on his own but you going there is just a call for trouble." She glanced at Elias before turning back to her son.

"Have a great day Elias and Iris. I'll see you tomorrow!" Kaiden's mother waved goodbye as they walked away.

Elias wondered if it was his fault his best friend got in trouble.
