Levi (Exhaustion)

5 day. That's how long it's been since Levi has been able to sleep. So far he's been able to hide it from his roommate, but it's been getting more difficult.

Levi lie awake for the 5th night in a row. He tried to close his eyes and pretend to sleep, fake it 'till you make it. He heard the small rustling of his roommate as he slept. Sleep. How Levi wished for that.

He heard some more rustling and then his roommate sat up. Look looked over at Mark and closed his eyes again after a second.

"Did I wake you? Sorry, I just need to use the bathroom." Mark said standing up.

"No it's fine, I've been up." Levi answered them regretted saying how long he's been awake for.

"Why? It's nearly two in the morning!" Mark asked, shocked.

"I don't know, couldn't sleep I guess." Levi responded then rolled over. He slowed his breathing as he heard Mark come back from the bathroom.

"Levi?" Mark called into the darkness. When Levi didn't respond, he assumed Levi had fallen asleep. Mark sighed in relief before going back to bed.

The early time slowly changed to 10:00 AM as Levi's body resisted sleep. When his alarm went off, he mentally groaned at the tiredness he felt. He could barely move anymore. His thoughts were always distracted on sleep. He forgot names, assignments, and much more. Nobody seemed to notice which meant it probably wasn't a big deal. At least that's what Levi told himself.

Levi stumbled as he stood up and walked to the bathroom. After he'd gotten ready he began the walk across campus to his first afternoon class.

Levi sat down and felt his eyes grow droopy as the professor went on.

He was nudged lightly in the shoulder, realizing he'd fallen asleep on his desk.

"You okay?" His table partner asked seeing Levi's sick appearance.

It wasn't too hard to see something was wrong. His face was pale, he was shaky, and there were dark bags under his eyes.

"Yes, I'm fine, everything's fine!" He said in a panic, denying everything. The person nodded and left him alone.

After the lecture ended, he got up and hurried out of the class.

After two miserable classes, he made it to lunch. His friends stared at him as he sat down in the dining hall beside them.

"You look miserable, did you get any sleep last night?" His friend Joey asked.

"Yes! I'm fine, why do people keep saying that?" Levi said getting irritated. He got up from the table and left, finding a private place outside.

As Levi saw a tree he could sit by, he began to feel dizzy. The world spun around him and he knew he wouldn't make it far. His phone was off too, no one would find him. He began walking back to get help, fighting away the black spots. He pulled out his phone, trying to text as he walked.

He sent a message to Mark but it came out jumbled.

Makr, ned help, fel disy, am ouside

When Mark saw the message his blood chilled. He read it from inside the dining hall. All of his friends had moved on from the topic of Levi's irritated response, and abrupt exit.

"Guys...uh...I have to go. I'll see you guys later." Mark said hurrying outside.

"Levi?" He called looking around. After walking further he tried to call and still got no answer. He called over and over but had no luck. He searched the area and found Levi's body crumpled against a wall.

"Levi? Are you okay? Mark asked running over. The boy was out cold and shaking.

Levi's eyes fluttered open in seconds. It felt like years.

"Mark...sorry...I'm okay..." Levi slurred.

"You're not okay, you passed out! What happened? Did you hit your head, are you hurt?" Levi shook his head.

"Uh...I think I just skipped breakfast and lunch just now...I'll be okay though." Levi lied.

"Why don't I take you back to the dorm. You can email your professors and rest for the day." Mark suggested.

"Okay..." Levi sighed and tried to stand. Dots pooled in his vision but were blinked away. Mark stood behind Levi cautiously, making sure he didn't fall as they walked.

When they'd finally made it to their shared dorm, Levi collapsed onto his bed.

"I have to get to class soon, email your professors quick and then you can rest." Mark said before taking off.

Levi emailed everyone and found himself still unable to sleep. He wished it would all go away. Hours passed until he heard a door open.

"Levi?" Mark called waking inside. "Are you awake?" Levi nodded slowly.

"Feeling any better?" Mark asked calmly.

"Yeah!" Levi lied, trying to sound more energetic.

"Great, I'll make some dinner. You can go back to sleep, I'll wake you up when it's ready"

"Okay," Levi answered rolling over so Mark couldn't see his face.

20 minutes of restlessness later Mark 'woke' him up for dinner.

Levi shakily stood and ate quickly then went to lay down again.

After an hour Mark had to leave to meet someone. Levi was all alone. He wasn't able to sleep for almost an hour before he gave up. Levi stood to go to the bathroom when a familiar feeling came upon him. His knees buckled and he felt his head hit the ground hard before everything turned dark.

Mark had finally finished helping his friend with some things when he felt like something bad had happened.

He tried to call Levi and again received no answer. Mark rushed back to campus and up to the dorm. He opened the door hurriedly, and walked around for a second, finding Levi on the floor.

"L-Levi?" Mark called his name, hoping for an answer. Levi's head was bleeding slightly and he was breathing slowly.

Mark wasn't sure what to do so he left Levi alone to go find the RA. He felt bad for leaving Levi alone, but something was obviously wrong.

Mark found the RA office and knocked on the door. "Hello?" Mark called. "My roommate passed out, his head is bleeding." Mark said urgently.

"Oh, oh, okay, I'm coming. I'm going to call an ambulance and I'll meet you in your room, what number is it?"

"215," Mark said then turned back to his dorm room.

"Levi?" He called again.

"M-Mark?" Levi stuttered rolling over.

"Stay down, the RA is sending an ambulance. You passed out and hit your head. Any idea why?" Mark asked slowly.

"Yeah...I'm...tired..." Levi said slowly slurring his words.

"How tired?" Mark asked concern growing on his face.

"I haven't slept...in 6 days." Levi sighed feeling embarrassed.

"The ambulance is on the way!" The RA announced coming inside the open door.

"Why didn't you tell someone?" Mark turned his attention back to Levi.

"I don't know," Levi shrugged.

"What's wrong?" The RA asked.

"He hasn't slept in 6 days..." Mark replied.

The RA looked concerned and came over to see how Levi was doing. After 5 minutes the ambulance sirens were heard, and soon paramedics were at the dorm.

"Hi, I'm Pam, and this is John." The paramedic, Pam, said kneeling beside Levi.

"John is going to look you over and see what needs to happen with your head. After that we'll take you up to the hospital." She said stepping back.

They assessed him quickly and Mark and the RA were both able to ride along.

When they arrived Mark was left in the waiting room for almost 2 hours.

"People here for, Levi Johansen?" A nurse asked. Mark and the RA stood. They were lead back to a room where a doctor waited to talk to them.

"Hi, I'm doctor Coleman. Mr. Johansen seems to have passed out from a lack of sleep, where he cut his head. The cut didn't need stitches, and he's resting now. We're hoping to get him on some medication for sleep aid."

"Okay, when can he be released?" The RA questioned.

"As soon as his medication comes in and he wakes up." The doctor answered.

After a few more hours of waiting Levi got his medication and was able to leave.

He was given a note, and 2 days off of school to rest. His new medication worked fairly well and he got sleep almost every night. From then on he made sure to tell people exactly what was going on when concerning his health.
