Chapter 3: Young And Terribly Misguided

Wuthering Heights
~ Kate Bush

"You had a temper like my jealousy
Too hot, too greedy
How could you leave me
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you, I loved you, too"

CHAPTER 3: YOUNG AND TERRIBLY MISGUIDED

"Wow." Nadine looked up at the sight of Five's home, tripping over the doorframe as he continued to push her inside. "This is your family's house?" She looked behind her at Five, who tilted his head to the side for a second. "If you can call it a family, yes."

The two walked inside, Five going in fast while Nadine took her time and spun around, staring at the ceiling. "It's bigger on the inside." She muttered to herself. Wren walked in behind her, staring at the two stories. "And I'm haunting the girl who lives in a studio apartment." She spoke to Nadine.

"Nadine, don't stop walking. We have to be fast with everything we do. The future of the world is at stake." Five walked back to the girl and grabbed her shoulder, pushing her towards the stairs. "Can I ask you a question?" She spoke to him as they walked up the stairs. "Shoot." He answered monotonously.

"Well, where did you get that eyeball?" He went to open his mouth and respond when she interrupted. "Follow up question, why's it so important? Go."

Five rolled his eyes and grit his teeth, turning to walk towards his room. "When I was 16, years ago, I got into an argument about time travel with my dad. He told me not to and I persisted and ran away. I ended up in an apocalyptic future. Fire, rubble, that sort of thing. Nobody else was alive. I was there for over 40 years."

They entered his room and she sat on his bed while he walked over to the window. She watched him as he continued his story. "This was in the palm of my brothers dead body's hand. This is the umbrella academy. They tried to save the world and died fighting. I think that whoever this eyeball belongs to is going to be the end of the world."

Nadine nodded, sad for the boy. "I'm sorry you were stuck there for so long. That must've been terrible." Five quirked an eyebrow at her and nodded once slowly. "What?" She questioned.

"Aren't you going to ask me why I look 16?" He put his hands in his pocket and watched her think. "I mean, that seems kind of personal." She closed her eyes and leaned back against his bed. "Even the bed is nice." She whispered.

"Plus, it would be pretty hypocritical of me to question you for being 58 in a 16 year olds body when I'm-" Five interrupted her with a smirk. "When you're 324?"

Nadine smiled and stuck a hand in the air, pointing at him. "Precisely!" Five shook his head and stared out the window, his smile dropping. Nadine was about to fall asleep when someone walked into the room.

"Oh, thank god. I was worried sick about you." They spoke to him. "Sorry I left without saying goodbye." He responded, looking to the left slightly as he noticed Nadine scooting up and sitting on his bed with her legs tucked under her.

"No, look, I'm the one that should be sorry. I was dismissive and-" they looked over, finally noticing the girl sitting on his bed. "I'm sorry, who are you?" Nadine got up quickly, brushing her hair back behind her and sticking a hand out to them. "Hi, I'm Nadine. It's nice to meet you. You must be one of the siblings."

The sibling smiled, taking her hand. "Yeah hi, I'm Vanya, I'm one of the sisters." She spoke to Nadine before turning back towards Five. "Is there a reason she's in the house? No offense." Nadine shook a hand. "None taken."

"She's destined to be by my side for a while, apparently." He looked to the side and saw her smiling. "Destined?" Five shook his head and waved Vanyas question off. "We'll explain later. Maybe you were right to be dismissive. Maybe it wasn't real after all. It felt real. Well... like you said, the old man did say time travel could contaminate the mind." He smiled at her, a genuine smile Nadine hadn't seen yet.

"Then maybe I'm not the right person for you to be talking to. Look, I used to see someone." Nadine sucked in a breath, knowing this wouldn't go down well. "It was going so well, too." Wren spoke from beside her on the bed making Nadine nod a little.

"A therapist. I could give you her information." Five scoffed slightly, looking to the side. "Thanks, but... I think I'm just gonna get some rest. It's been a long time since I've had a good sleep." Nadine quirked an eyebrow, tilting her head. You lying son of a bitch. "He's a lying piece of shit, I'll tell you that." Wren spoke what she was thinking, Nadine nodding again. "Okay." Vanya said and walked out of the room.

Five grabbed onto Nadine and pulled her up off the bed, causing her to pout at the fact that she didn't get to stay on the mattress. They started walking towards the door when the doors to his armoire suddenly swung open, someone stepping out.

"That's so..." Nadine yelped and jumped back, Five grabbing onto her shoulder to be sure she doesn't fall. "Touching, all the stuff about family and dad and time. Wow!" He walked over to the other side of the room. "Would you shut up? She'll hear you." Five pointed towards the door, squinting his eyes at the man. "I'm moist."

He walked over to the girl now and took both of her hands, leaning down to her height. "You must be Nadine!" Five smacked the man's hands away, gritting his teeth. The girls eyes widened, taking in the man's strange appearance. "I'm Klaus, his brother." Nadine's head tilted slightly. "Nice to meet you?" She whispered. "He's the one they said can see me, on a normal day."

Nadine turned towards Wren who was still laying on the boys bed. "Why is this not a normal day?" She muttered back to the ghost as he walked away. "He's high."

Klaus looked around the room and stopped in front of Five. "I told you to put on something professional." He stuck his hand out, pointing towards the man's outfit. "What? This is my nicest outfit." Klaus defended himself making Five scoff slightly and shake his head.

"We'll raid the old man's closet." He spoke before walking out of the room. Klaus followed behind him towards their fathers old room. "Whatever, as long as I get paid." Nadine watched silently as they left. "Am I supposed to follow them?" She turned away from the door, pointing back at it with her thumb.

Wren smirked in response, not saying anything. "Nadine, come on." Five entered the room again, making her jump a little before dragging her out by the shoulder. "Five, please, I can walk by myself." The boy rolled his eyes at her and let go. "I'm sure."

"Okay, but just so we're clear on the finer details, I just gotta go into this place and pretend to be your dear old dad, correct?" Five nodded at his brother. "Yeah. Something like that. And Nadine's."

Klaus nodded before taking in a sharp breath in excitement. "What's our cover story?" Nadine's eyebrows scrunched together as she stopped to stand beside Five. "What? What are you talking about?" The boy questioned.

"I mean, was I really young when I had you two? Like, 16? Like, young and terribly misguided." Klaus brought his hands to his chest for dramatic effect. "Sure." Five agreed monotonously.

"Your mother, that slut. Whoever she was. We met at... the disco." Klaus smiled like he was remembering it as if it actually happened. "Okay? Remember that." Five and Nadine nodded, looking at each other slightly. "Oh, my god, the sex was amazing." He snapped his fingers.

Nadine sarcastically made a movement like an explosion was going off in her brain. "What a disturbing glimpse into that thing you call a brain." Five commented before turning the girl around and beginning to walk down the stairs. "Don't make me put you two in time-out." He pointed at them while he followed them down the stairs.

The three of them were situated in an office in Meritech, across from the man in the lab coat. Nadine stood behind Five slightly while Klaus took the chair. "Like I said to your children earlier, any information about the prosthetics we build is strictly confidential. Without the clients consent, I simply can't help you." He spoke in annoyance.

"Well, we can't get consent if you don't give us a name." Five leaned forward onto the table. "Well, that's not my problem. Sorry. Now, there's really nothing more I can do, so..." Nadine rolled her eyes and sighed, placing her hand on her forehead. Rejection, again.

"And what about my consent?" Nadine raised her head up, her eyebrows scrunching together. She took a glance behind Mr Big at where Wren was and gave her a questioning look only to receive a shrug. "Excuse me?" The man questioned.

"Who gave you permission to lay your hands on my kids?" Nadine stared at Klaus in shock. "What?" Five and the man stared at him as well. "You heard me." Klaus spoke seriously. "I didn't touch your kids." The man defended himself.

"Oh, really? Well, how did he get that swollen lip, then?" Klaus spoke, starting to stand up. "He doesn't have a swollen lip." Mr Big responded as he watched him. Klaus stood and swung at Five, punching him directly in the face. The boy grunted, holding his face.

"And how did she end up with a mark on her cheek?" Klaus turned towards Nadine and whispered "non-dominant hand" before slapping her, Five grabbing onto her shoulder to keep her standing up. Wren jumped up with a glare towards Klaus and Nadine shook her head to tell her it was okay.

"I want it. Name, please. Now." Klaus walked towards the desk and leaned against it. "You're crazy." The man pointed at him. "You got no idea." Klaus chuckled at him and picked up a snow globe. "Peace on Earth. That's so sweet." He smashed the snow globe over his head. Nadine jumped back slightly in shock, Five glancing at her before staring at his brother.

Klaus screamed, holding his injury. "God, that hurt!" He screamed as blood trickled down his forehead. Mr Big picked up his phone and started dialing a number. "I'm calling secur-" Klaus grabbed the phone off the side of his head and put it up to his ear. "What are you doing!?"

"There's been an assault in Mr Big's office..." Fives eyebrows scrunched together, trying to see where this was going. Nadine put a hand on his shoulder to steady herself, rubbing the sore spot on her cheek with a pout.

"We need security, now. Schnell!" He screamed into the phone before hanging up and sighing. "Now, here's what's gonna happen, Grant." The man stared at Klaus in fear. "It's Lance."

"Yeah, we don't care." Nadine spoke, shaking her head. "In about 60 seconds, two security guards are gonna burst through that door and they're gonna see a whole lot of blood and they're gonna wonder, 'what the hell happened?' And we're gonna tell them that you..." Five smirked at the man, putting his hands deep in his pockets.

"Beat the shit out of us." Klaus finished. Nadine smiled as he dramatically sobbed. "You're gonna do great in prison, Grant. Trust me, I've been there. Little piece of chicken like you. Oh, my god, you're gonna get passed around like a... You're just- you're gonna do great. That's all I'm saying." Five glanced over at Nadine and saw the dark spot forming on the side of her cheek, frowning a little.

"Jesus, you are a real sick bastard." The man shook his head and leaned back. "Thank you." Klaus spit a piece of glass. The man nodded and brought them to an office. He looked through some files before taking out the correct one and opening it. "Oh, that's strange." He commented as he read it. "What?" Five blinked.

"Uh, the eye. It hasn't been purchased by a client yet." Mr. Big explained, continuing to read. "What? What do you mean?" Klaus jumped next to him. Nadine furrowed her eyebrows, sharing a confused glance with Five. "Well, uh, our logs say that the eye with that serial number- this can't be right. It hasn't even been manufactured yet. Where did you get that eye?" The man questioned curiously.

Five sighed and shook his head before they left with more questions than answers. "Well, this is not good." He spoke to them when they left the building. "I was pretty good, though, right? 'Yeah. What about my consent, bitch?" He chuckled at himself making Nadine smile slightly.

"Klaus, it doesn't matter." Five spoke making the smile drop off her face. "What? What? What's the big deal with this eye, anyway?" Klaus questioned nonchalantly. "I love how he didn't ask any questions until now." Wren giggled out from behind her.

"There is someone out there who's going to lose an eye in the next seven days. They're gonna bring about the end of life on this Earth as we know it." Five answered angrily making Nadine place a hand on his shoulder.

"Boy Wonder is getting angry again. What's new?" Wren commented. "I'm bored, I'm going back to the coven. Catch you in a bit." Nadine waved goodbye to her spirit before jumping back into the conversation.

"The apocalypse is coming and all you can think about is getting high?" Five sneered at his brother, stepping closer. Nadine grabbed his shoulders with both of her hands and pulled back a little, making him back up. "Well, I'm also quite hungry. Tummy's a-rumblin." Klaus chuckled at himself and made groaning noises.

"You're useless. You're all useless!" He screamed at his brother. "Oh, come on. You need to lighten up, old man." Five sat down, Nadine following him and doing the same. She laid her feet out in front of her and felt the tingling in her feet go away from standing up for too long. She sighed in content, smiling at the boy beside her.

"Hey, you know, I've just now realized why you're so uptight. You must be horny as hell!" Nadine scrunched her nose up, looking away from the boys as Klaus sat down on the other side of him. "All those years by yourself. It's gotta screw with your head, being alone."

Five licked his lips in thought. "Well, I wasn't alone." Klaus and Nadine looked over, both interested in the topic. "Oh? Pray tell." Five looked forward, smiling slightly. "Her name was Delores. We were together for over 30 years."

Nadine blew some air out as she thought about how long 30 years is. "Thirty years? Oh wow!" Klaus responded. "Yeah, that's sick, Five. She must've been amazing." He nodded, looking down slightly.

"God, the longest I've been with someone was, I don't know, three weeks? And that's only because I was so tired of looking for a place to sleep." Five grabbed onto Nadine's upper arm and teleported them into the back of a Taxi.

"Don't stop. Just keep going." He told the driver, making sure she was in a seatbelt as well before leaning towards the window and waving goodbye to Klaus. "Five, that was kind of mean." Nadine frowned at him and crossed her arms. "Well, he was bugging me with his sad tales of a druggys love life." She smirked slightly at him, chuckling.

He stared at her face for a second, his eyebrows together. "What's wrong?" She asked, scared she did something wrong. "You're gonna have a bruise on your face." Nadine smiled and brushed her hair slightly in front of her cheek. She waved off his concern and turned to face the window. "It's just a little one, I'll be fine. Don't worry about me. Saving the world is at the top of the list of worries right now."

Five frowned but nodded, facing forward to make sure the driver was going in the correct direction. "Where's Branwen?" He questioned without taking his eyes off the road. "Eh, she's with the coven. She'll be back soon."
