Chapter Four

"Aut? Autumn? Hey! Is anyone in there?" Jordan was waving his hand in front of my face. "Wha-what?" He laughed at my reaction. "Whatcha thinking about?" he asked as he dragged over a chair and sat next to me. "Oh nothing, yanno? Just stuff..." I didn't think he would believe me and almost as if to confirm my suspicions, he raised his eyebrows. "Just stuff, huh? Nothing to do with a certain mysterious stranger?" I blushed and looked away as he chuckled quietly. "C'mon, you know you can talk about him when your with me!" He said playfully. I glanced up and stared over to 'the tree', then turned back to face Jordan. Smiling at him I replied, "Yeah, I know..." Jordan was the only one that was capable of listening to me rant and ramble for hours on end about how I wanted to find my mysterious saviour. I really don't know how he could sit through it all! And when he did, he actually showed an interest in what I was saying. He knows every single story/encounter I have had with my saviour up to date. Jordan especially likes the story about what happened in the jungle, mainly because he was the one that got saved. Tom had come busting through the door, telling tales of some lake him and Tucker had found in their adventures. The rest of us thought it sounded like a cool place so we all set out to find it again. Of course, after an hour of walking through the jungle, Tucker just had to announce that we were lost which then caused him and Tom to start arguing over what way to go. Eventually we got to the lake and Champ had the awesome idea to climb a tree and use it as a diving board. Dec and Champ made a staircase up to the top of a tree and we all took turns jumping off. Jordan and I made our way to the top but instead of jumping straight off to everyone waiting for us below, we decided to take in the scenery. "Woah..." We could see for miles, just trees, trees and more trees! Suddenly the branch that Jordan was balancing on snapped and he went tumbling down. "JORDAN!!!" I remember screaming and running over to where he had disappeared. I crouched down next to the now gaping hole and peered down. Jordan was hanging on to a lower branch with both of his hands about a meter below me. "Hold on! I-I'll get you up here, just hang on!" I was so worried that the worst would happen. I reached down and tried to grab his hand but he was just out of reach. Tom and the others could now be heard shouting at us as they had all seen Jordan fall. I was vaguely aware of hearing splashes from below us as the others clambered out of the lake but my main priority was making sure Jordan didn't fall. Frantically, I looked around for something that I could use to pull him up. Out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw something move but I didn't have time to find out what it was. Then things got worse as the wind suddenly picked up and Jordan began to be rocked back and forth furiously. The next few seconds seem to happen in slow motion. The branch that he was holding on to started to creak before snapping, leaving a terrified Jordan to stare up at me as he fell. And he kept falling. He fell past the others who were halfway up the stairs, racing to get to the top. "JORDAN!" I screamed as tears started to stream down my face. "No..." I whispered, now crying properly. Then something amazing happened. Almost as if the wind had caught Jordan, he began to float back up to where I was. When he got to the top, he softly landed next to me and I threw myself at him, developing him in a hug. The others had gotten to the top and had seen the whole escapade. They came running over to us and we all hugged while me and Sonja cried our eyes out. After everything had calmed down a bit Jordan gripped my arm and pointed at a tree across from us. Sat in one of the branches was a boy. But not any boy, the same one that had rescued me from the mines. We didn't have any proof, but we were sure that he was the one that had saved Jordan. That wasn't even that long ago, that only happened a couple of weeks ago. At first we couldn't get over the shock that we nearly lost Jordan, but as time progressed the shock wore of. I suddenly realised that I had spaced out and Jordan was still trying to talk to me "So you're telling me that you are definitely, 100% sure that you are not thinking of a certain mysterious stranger?" Jordan starts teasing, a smirk plastered on his face. I laugh. "Yeah well... even if I was thinking about 'said mysterious stranger' I don't know why-" I stop short, staring straight out the window. As I heard Jordan gasp next to me I reach down and grasp hold of his hand. I start trembling, even though it isn't remotely cold in the house. "Tom" I whisper quietly under my breath. "Tom?" Raising my voice a little louder, trying to be heard over him an Tucker still bickering. "TOM!" I scream, desperately trying to be heard. Jordan and I could both tell that all heads were now turning our way but we couldn't tear our eyes from the events that were unfolding right in front of us. "Wha- Holy shiiiii" Tom shouted as he turned to face us. Sonia could be heard gasping, as Tucker dropped his plate which smashed as it hit the floor. In the next couple of seconds, we had everyone running over to us, constantly staring out the window. Tom stood directly behind me, one of his hands on my shoulder the other was grasping on to Dec's arm. We must have looked a state, all seven of us stood, huddling around the front window, all with shocked looks on our faces. For once it was silent. The only thing that could be heard was the soft ticking of our old grandfather clock. Tick tock. Tick tock. Tick tock. I heard someone shuffle on their feet behind me and then Tucker started to pipe up. "Umm... guys? I just have one, tiny, little, itsy-bitsy question to ask. What in Miantite's name is that?!"
