The Truth

I'm back, finally with a new chapter. I appreciate all my readers who have been patient with me and waited for me to update. I had a bit of a writers block and other stuff going on but I'm back now. thank you to all my readers who have politely asked me to update over these last months. these comments really helped me and every time I read one I started writing a little. So, today I have a double chapter update for you all.

"So Miss Granger I will be off now. See you on the first of September "said Professor McGonagall

I nodded and she walked out of my house without another word. I looked at the door she had locked behind her, as if waiting for all the craziness to vanish along with her but the ticket that she had given me with bizarre instructions on how to get to the platform stayed clutched in my hands and the bagful of odd things that they had bought in the unusual alley also stayed at the foot of the couch.

She looked around to see her mum standing by the porch door, as though afraid of approaching her. Her dad sat down next to her and beckoned her mum.

"I won't go," she whispered. "I'll control it. I know I can. I promise"

"Oh sweetheart" said her mother and put her arms around her. "Do you want to go to this place?"

"Yes"

"Then that's what you'll do Hermione we will always want the best for you darling"

"We always knew you were special Hermione," added her father.

"Ok" she said with a small smile.

"Now your mum and I have something to tell you"

"What we say won't change anything sweetheart we will always love you"

The last couple hours had been the most surprising ones in her entire life. She was sure that nothing that they said now could top that.

"You are adopted," said her father.

It took her a few seconds to comprehend what he said and all the joy and excitement of the last few hours crumbled. Her throat constricted and she tried to hold in her tears."Ok".

"Hermione, we just found out today that you are a witch and you're going away to a school to learn magic. We just thought that you would like to know."

"Yes baby we just wanted to be the one to tell you" added her mother. "In case your birth parents are magic people, we want you to know that we love you and that you will always be our daughter.

"Ok" she said. Today had indeed been a very confusing day and Hermione did not like chaos and confusion; she liked things to be in order and she liked to know about things. She picked up the pile of books near the couch and got up; she will make sense of this whole witch thing, she will get back in control.

"Hermione"

"Yes daddy" she said, wondering if she can still call him that.

"Would you rather we didn't tell you you were adopted?" He asked quietly.

She thought about it for a second. "No", she lied and went to her room.

-----------------------

Professor Lupin quietly stared at my face. I could tell that he was surprised by my answer but he tried not to show it. Ever since that day, I had hoped that I might not be really Muggle born. There was a chance that my real parents were also just Muggles but it seemed too far-fetched. Maybe, I was a half-blood and my witch/wizard parent didn't even know that I existed. The hundreds of possibilities kept me awake for many nights before I finally gained enough courage to have a talk with professor McGonagall about it. She had told me that if there was no record of my birth in the ministry records then there was no way to know.

"So my real parents?"

"They were wizards Hermione." replied professor Lupin

"Both of them?"

"yes"

"Oh. So I'm not a Muggle born?" she whispered. Even though I had been waiting for the last two years of my life to hear this, it didn't feel as comforting as I had hoped it would.

"No you're not."

"Wait you said were does that mean my parents are dead? Do you know who they are?"

Professor Lupin let out a huge sigh and looked right at her "Yes Hermione I knew your mum she was a great witch. She died during the first war and I adopted you afterwards."

"My mum was a witch. But professor McGonagall said that I was not in any of the ministry records."

"That's because your mum fought against the dark lord actively and she didn't want to put your life at risk in case the ministry was compromised."

Hermione nodded "and you are my adopted father."

"Yes I am Hermione." He said in a low voice, he looked like he wanted to say a lot more about the topic but was holding himself back.

"But why did— but where were you all these years." she finally asked.

"During the war, I was a prominent member of the order and when lord Voldemort vanished, all the order members were hunted down by the remaining of his followers. I had to hide you in a safe place. I had no other choice.

"And you never looked for me afterwards?" she asked, not convinced.

"I— when I left you, I performed a memory spell on myself to remove all memories of you. There was someone who was supposed to reverse that memory spell afterward but— but that person was gone so I didn't know that you existed until last night."

"So you got your memories back"

"Yes. I've been getting little fragments and fractions of memory ever since I met you. Last night, professor dumbledore helped me get it back by removing the blocking spell that i had."

She looked into professor Lupins' eyes; there were no signs of lies, only pain. "Ok"

"But what do you want from me? You cannot expect me to leave my family and come back with you right. I barely know you"

"Of course I don't expect that of you Hermione. As much as I want that to happen I'm afraid that I have no right to that. I just wanted you to know the truth Hermione; you can do whatever you wish with it"

She nodded and the first bell rang outside.

"You should head to class now." He said quietly and she nodded.

"Yes professor"

"Please call me Remus. And we can talk more about this when you're ready. Remember, you are always welcome here."

"Thank you" she said with a little smile and got up to leave.

"Would you rather I had kept this to myself, Hermione?"

"No Mr. Lupin I'm very glad that you told me about it"
