LAP DOGS

First Person

Episode: Pack Mentality
Chapter 8

It's now late at night I've eaten, finished my homework and I'm ready for bed. If only it was that easy.

Before I could even think to change into pjs Stiles is dragging me out the door.

We're gonna pick up Scott bring him to the school so he can go back to the bus and see if it triggers any memories.

Apparently that's what Derek told him to do.

"Hey, no-- just me. Someone needs to keep watch." Scott says as we stand at the fence ready to go.

"How come I'm always the guy keeping watch?" Stiles asks.

"Because there's only three of us, and someone needs to stay with Cass." Scott replies.

He's not wrong I don't wanna keep watch and end up dead.

"Okay, why's it starting to feel like you're Batman and I'm Robin?" Stiles is now offended.

"I don't want to be Robin all the time!" He scoffs.

"Nobody's Batman and Robin any of the time."
Scott says annoyed.

"Not even some of the time?" Now Stiles is really offended. It's kinda cute. What am I thinking? Stop that. Bad Cassidy.

"Just stay here." Scott sighs climbing the fence.

"Oh, my God! Fine." Stiles yells and groans in his face.

He grabs my hand and drags me back to the Jeep.

It's quiet for a minute before I speak up.

"You know Batman isn't always the best." I start. He looks at me.

"The sidekick saves the day just as much. He's always just as cool too. Sometime I think their cooler. Especially Robin." I tell him.

I don't even know what made me say that. Whether it be true or not.

"Thanks. I don't really think I do much though. I'm the sidekick that just messes everything up." He says sadly.

I frown and grab his hand "No your so much more than that." I say.

For a moment it looks like his eyes move down to look at my lips.

Everything is in slow motion. I lick my lips and suddenly I see a light out of the corner of my eye.

"Stiles look." I say. He looks over and panics. He honks the horn and yells Scott's name.

"Come on! Come on!" We both mutter.

Before I could move to the back Scott jumps in and lands on my lap.

"Go! Go! Go! Go!" He yells.

"Did it work? Did you remember?" Stiles questions.

I wrap my arms around Scott's waist as if I'm his seatbelt.

"Yeah, I was there last night. And the blood? A lot of it was mine." He says.

"So, you did attack him?" I question him.

"No. I saw glowing eyes in the bus, but they weren't mine-- it was Derek." He says after a minute of thinking.

Then Stiles ask the question we all want to know the answer to "What about the driver?"

"I think I was actually trying to protect him." He tells us.

I was not expecting that.

"Wait-- why would Derek help you remember that he attacked the driver?" Stiles questions with a frown.

"That's what I don't get." He says and sigh.

"It's gotta be a pack thing." I say trying to help.

"What do you mean?" He asks me.

"Like an initiation. You do the kill together." Stiles tells him.

"Because ripping someone's throat out is a real bonding experience?" Scott replies grimly.

"Yeah, but you didn't do it! Which means you're not a killer! And it also means that—" Stiles is cut off by an excited Scott. "I can go out with Allison!"

I was gonna say it means you won't kill me or Cass..." Stiles finishes his thought now offended.

"Oh, yeah. That, too." He says and then turns and smiles at me from under him. I roll my eyes. It's like he doesn't know all I have to do is open the door and throw him out.

We drop Scott off at home and head back to Stiles' house for some much needed sleep.

That's all it is tonight. No talking. No cuddling. Just sleep.

Next day Scott has his 'hang out' with Allison, Lydia and Jackson. That leaves me and Stiles to spend the day together.

No werewolf drama. We can finally get a break.

Of course my brain had to ruin it.

I started thinking of all the possible scenarios oh how Scott's 'hang out' could go wrong.

All ending in death.

"You have that look on your face." Stiles says interrupting my thinking from next to me where he's sitting watching videos.

"What look?" I ask him.

"The one where your thinking hard and it's making you go crazy." He says nonchalantly.

Damn. He's good.

"Can you blame me?" I start.

He just closes his laptop and gives me his full attention.

"Think about it. Our best friend, Scott McCall now a werewolf is going bowling with Jackson Whittemore. There so competitive in lacrosse, what's gonna stop them from being competitive now? Sure bowling isn't as aggressive but still. It's not like he's just some cute little dog that will curl up in your lap and nuzzle into your neck. He's a frickin werewolf that can and will rip you to shreds if he gets angry." I say all in one breath.

"Okay first breath." Stiles tells me. "Second it's gonna be fine. Scott won't freak out. Allison is there. He wouldn't want to do anything that could put her in harms way." He finishes.

"Whatever. Don't come crying to me when I'm right and we then have to think of a way to break him out of jail when he's arrested for murder." I say.

"Fine you're right." He tells me to end the conversation.

"Duh." I tell him. He's chuckles and it's quiet again.

My mind is racing with thoughts still. Some of Scott others of Stiles.

Last night it looked like he was gonna kiss me. At least I think it did.

Do I ask him? No that would make it awkward.

Instead he surprises me and starts talking about it "Listen what happened last night or what could have happened I'm sorry." He says in a nervous voice.

"I-uh um I-I don't even know what was gonna happen to be honest. It was just what you said was really nice and you made me feel good." He says unsure of himself.

"It's fine. It was okay. I didn't mind. Or I mean I wouldn't have minded. Um yeah." I say just as nervous and unsure.

We sit there just looking at each other and I mean really looking.

I notice all the small details on him. From his beautiful hazel eyes to the moles on his jaw.

"I don't like Lydia by the way." He says. This shocks me. I swear he liked her. I was so sure he's had a crush on her for years.

"Really? I thought that's who you and Scott were talking about. I mean the way you described the girl. It was just like her. She's the prettiest girl I know." I tell him.

"Not the prettiest I know. This girl. The one I like. She's gorgeous. It's almost like she doesn't know it sometimes. She's quiet but then can make a whole room laugh if she wants. She's perfect." He says dreamily.

Wow he's really in love. The way he talks about her she's lucky.

I don't know what to say. I look and see he's staring at me. I stare back. It's like I'm lost in his eyes. His gorgeous eyes.

I didn't even notice I was leaning in. Or that he was leaning in.

"Hey guys I'm thinking pizza for dinner what about you." Sheriff says walking in.

We jump away but he doesn't seem to notice.

"Yeah sounds great." I tell him. We get up and follow him downstairs as he orders.

We didn't say anything about what almost happened.

Not even in the car ride to Scott's house later on.

Of course we had some bad news for him. Just what he'll want to hear after his night with Allison.

"Hey, Scott? I'm gonna go to... sleep..."
We hear his mom say.

Well this just got interesting considering we're climbing in through his window.

"Seriously? Stiles, Cass, what are you doing here?" She screams holding a baseball bat.

"What are we doing? God, do either of you even play baseball?" He says. To be fair she did scream when he was still halfway out the window. He could have fell. Thank god I went first.

"What?" She says now overwhelmed.

That's when Scott walks in.

"Can you please tell your friends to use the front door?" She asks him.

"But we lock the front door. They wouldn't be able to get in." He answers obliviously.

"Yeah, exactly." She replies. Both of us give her a hurt look.

"And, by the way, do any of you care that there's a police-enforced curfew?" She asks. Oh Melissa you should know by now that won't stop us.

"No." We answer simultaneously.

"No." She says looking for confirmation. We just nod.

"All right, then. Well, you know what? That's about enough parenting for me for one night, so good night." She sighs.

"What?" Scott's frowns at us as his mom leaves.

"My dad left for the hospital fifteen minutes ago..." Stiles says with hesitation.

It's true we weren't even halfway through dinner before he was called in.

"It's the bus driver. They said he succumbed to his wounds." I told him.

"Succumbed?" Scott asks confused.

"Scott, he's dead." Stiles sighs.

Just when I thought everything might be getting better it got worse.

That's it. We did it three episodes. I'm proud are you proud. That almost kiss though. Twice. Let me tell you I was so tempted to make them kiss, but it would have ruined everything. It's so cute. Also I don't even know how I come up with these titles. They do make me laugh though. These last three have been great. Usually I suck at coming up with them. Not this time. Anything involving Stiles Stilinski deserves the best.
