⛸️| CHAPTER 7

I stared at myself in the bathroom mirror while fixing my hair. Everything leading up till this date felt so slow. My classes, practice, even lunch with Hayden and Asher. Now that it was almost time for Luke to pick me up, I felt like I didn't have enough time to get ready. Sure it was a simple arcade date, but did I mention that it was with Luke Hughes? The Luke Hughes??

I heard the front door open and in came Hayden with Rutger. I had the bathroom door open, so I could see them giggling with each other as they entered. He was getting a little handsy with her and she clearly hadn't noticed me in there yet.

"Hey guys!" I yelled so they knew I was seeing everything.

"Hey," Hayden said. She looked up and saw my outfit. I was wearing a white baby t-shirt with light washed mom jeans. I had a flannel on and my white Air Forces. "Woah... where are you going?" I must've forgotten to tell her about my date with Luke.

"She didn't tell you?" Rutger asked. "She's going on a date with Luke tonight." Of course he had to say it before I could. I shot a glare at him.

Hayden's jaw dropped open as she looked back at me. "Jocelyn! Why didn't you tell me at practice?" It honestly flew over my head, it didn't feel real.

"Well, he just asked me today and I didn't want Valerie to hear," I winced. I didn't mean to hurt her feelings by not telling her. It was worse that Rutger made it sound like I told him and not her on purpose. "Rutger was just at the house when it happened."

Hayden looked up at him with confusion. "Luke kept telling us that he was gonna ask her out, so I told him if he didn't today then I would myself." Hayden's eyebrows furrowed even more. "Like I would ask her for him!"

She rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Just have fun, Jocelyn." She smiled at me. "Don't stay out too late and be safe."

I nodded my head, then my phone buzzed. I reached for my phone and saw Luke texting me.

LUKEY‼️

Hey
I'm here :)

Heading down!

"Alright, I'll see you two later," I said before grabbing my tote and dorm keys. "Don't have too much fun." I winked before heading out. I made my way down the hall and down the elevator.

When the doors opened, I saw Luke waiting outside the lobbt entrance. He was on his phone scrolling on something. He looked up and his eyes lit up, my heart did flips in my chest as I opened the door. "Hey," I beamed.

"Hi," he said like he was out of breath. His eyes scanned over my outfit. "You look nice."

I laughed, looking at his outfit. It was consisted of grey sweatpants, a hoodie, Hey Dudes, and a beanie. "Thanks, you too," I replied. He lead me to his car and I hopped in the passenger seat.

He started and car and held out the aux chord to me. "You want aux?" He knew how much I loved playing music.

"Of course I do!" I said with a wide smile. I plugged my phone in and turned on my playlist. It consisted of a lot of Taylor Swift and One Direction. The first song to play was Satellite by Harry Styles.

Luke then turned down the volume and glanced over at me. "The guys kept teasing me about this date during practice," he said.

I looked over at him with my eyebrows furrowed and a smile on my face. "You told the team?"

He shrugged. "Of course I did. You told Hayden and Asher didn't you?"

Oh. "Uh... Rutger kinda beat me to it," I responded.

He laughed, "Course he did."

Now I felt guilty that I didn't tell Hayden meanwhile he told his whole team. I just didn't want Valerie to hear about it and get in my business. Especially with how crazy she is when it came to Luke.

Eventually, Luke pulled into the arcade parking lot and we went inside. He purchased game cards for the both of us and we began the hunt for our game.

I was the first to spot it. I pointed at the machine and turned to him. "Air hockey!" I announced while grinning wide. It was always our favorite growing up.

"Of course," he chuckled. I skipped over to the air hockey machine and swiped my game card. He swiped his on the opposite side and grabbed the puck and his pusher. "You're going down."

"Nuh uh!" I laughed. We were always competitive growing up. This was one of our things that didn't involve Jack or Quinn. Right now, Luke was the reigning champion with 18 wins. I only had 14, but at least it was close.

"I am way better than you at air hockey." He smirked.

"Oh yeah? What makes you think so?" I hit the puck as hard as I could, causing it to fly around the surface. He hit the puck and it slid right into the goal.

"Because of my 18 wins" he shot back.

I gasped, "you bitch!"

He laughed again. Just then, my heart hiccuped. He looked so good right now – his hair was still slightly messy from the shower he took beforehand, and the grin on his face. I wished I could capture that smile forever.

Unfortunately, my luck was against me as my next puck missed the goal by a few inches. Luke scored another point while I was distracted on him. "Suck on that!" I rolled my eyes and got the puck out of the slot. "Come on, Jocey. You know you love it when I trash talk you." He grinned. That damn smirk.

"Fine, fine." I surrendered. We kept hitting the puck back and forth until I finally made a goal. I yelled loudly while jumping around victoriously. That was the only goal I made during the entirety of the game. I would've challenged him to a rematch, but there were a group of younger kids waiting to play.

He rubbed it in my face that he won while we walked around. That's when I spotted the claw machine with a ton of stuffed animals in it. I grabbed his wrist which cut him off. He looked in the direction where I was looking then met my gaze. "You want one?" he asked. I nodded my head. "Alright..." he chuckled, leading me over to the machine.

I let go of his wrist and he slid his card. "Can I get the rhino?" I pointed to the fluffy pink Rhino. He nodded his head and went for it. The first time he missed it by an inch and grabbed something else, but it slipped out of the grip of the claw.

He swiped his card again and the claw grabbed the rhino, it slipped out of the claw again. Now it was on top of the other stuffed animals which made it easier to grab. He slid his card and grabbed it with the claw. This time, it dropped in the chute.

I grinned from ear to ear and he reached for it. He held it out to me while smiling, "There you go, Jocey."

I took it out of his hand and pulled him into a tight hug. "Thank you!" I chirped.

He wrapped his arms around me. "You're welcome." I looked up at him and met his eyes. His eyes flickered down to my mouth, but he then let go. "What about we play ski ball?"

I was a bit disappointed that he didn't kiss me just now. "Yeah sure," I replied. He held out his hand and I took it. We didn't intertwine fingers, but I didn't care. I was holding hands with Luke on our date. It was a dream come true.

The rest of the night was one I would've only imagined to be in the movies. My high school dreams were finally playing out just like I imagined them to.

We left the arcade shortly after the claw machine and he drove us back to the dorms. He parked the car in the parking lot and walked me to the girls' dorm. We stopped right in front of the door and stood face to face. The light coming from inside the lobby hit his face the right way.

My heart skipped as I maintained eye contact with him. "I had a lot of fun tonight. It was everything I hoped it would be." I smiled widely.

"Yeah, me too." He dug his hands in his jacket pockets and directed his gaze somewhere away from me. He broke eye contact? He never broke eye contact? At first, I thought I did something wrong until he said, "I should've done this at the arcade."

My heart flipped at Luke's husky voice. He met my gaze, his falling up and down with his breaths. His hot breaths turned to condensation as they mixed with the cold Michigan air. "Done what?" I giggled nervously.

He took a couple steps closer to me to where we were only inches apart. "This." He placed his hands on my face and tilted his head, leaning in to place a kiss on my lips. My eyes widened at the sudden contact of his soft wet lips against mine. I blinked my shut and placed my hands over his. They were so large and warm compared to mine.

The kiss ended as soon as it started, but I took in all my 5 senses. The feeling of his lips against mine, the warm breaths from his nose, the taste of his mint gum, the smell of his cologne. It was all so perfect.

I blinked a couple times when I pulled away. Our eyes met again before a bashful smile spread across my face. Luke had a wide smile on his face, "You know there's no going back after this, don't you?"

I nodded my head. "Yeah, I know," I replied. "But I would really like to do it again." I wrapped my arms around his neck and got up on my tippy toes.

"Yes, please," he said before our lips met again. The world around us melted away as we exchanged this kiss. I couldn't help but smile as our lips touched. When the kids ended, I got off my tip toes and let go of him. "I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"

He nodded, "Yeah. Good night, Jocey."

"Good night, Lukey." I walked inside the building and got on the elevator. I watched as he walked away from the building as the elevator doors closed. When the doors shut, I finally let out the squeals that were built up inside of me. I had a small celebratory dance session before the elevator stopped on my floor. I got out and rushed to my dorm.
