Chapter 2: The Empire Has Fallen!

Time passed by so slowly, and Virgil had no way of knowing how much had actually passed. When the door opened, he looked up to say something to Logan, but it wasn't Logan who'd stepped in.
The guy who'd stepped in was raving in about something, waving his hands around, all together being as irritating as anyone could be.
Virgil disliked him immediately.
He was still raving when he noticed Virgil. He stopped abruptly and frowned.
"Who are you?"
Virgil scoffed at him.
"Could ask you the same question."
The guy crossed his arms over his chest.
"I'm Roman. Now answer my question."
"That's Virgil, you insufferable idiot." Virgil heard Logan's voice, but he couldn't see him.
Roman looked at a spot behind Virgil's head, and his mouth fell open. "Oh!" Roman clapped his hands together. "You're who I'm here for!"
Virgil blinked as a sudden surge of fear went through him.
"Who you're-"
Logan stepped into his eye line and scowled at Roman.
"Roman is an idiot. You'd think someone so creative would think of better ways to word things."
"You'd think someone so smart would know when to shut up."
Logan glared, and Roman scowled back.
"He's not here because we're going to kill you. I want you to remember what you saw that night."
"And how is Prince Half Wit going to help me with that?" Virgil asked.
Roman stared at him, and Logan had to stifle a laugh.
"We'll see how witty you are when I cut your tongue out of your head." Roman hissed.
Virgil smirked at him, which seemed to make Roman more infuriated. For some reason, Virgil just wasn't afraid of him.
"Okay, enough. No one's cutting Virgil." Logan put a hand on Roman's chest and pushed him back a step. "How are you going to help, though?"
Roman sighed and closed his eyes, muttering to himself.
"I know a guy. He can make people aware of feelings that they didn't even know they had. He'll know what to do to trigger these memories."
Logan stuck his tongue into his cheek and nodded.
"Call him."
Roman nodded and pulled out his phone. He put it on speaker. It rang once, twice...
"Ro, I'm really not in the headspace for this. For whatever Disney epiphany you have."
Virgil choked on the air.
"Patton..." he wheezed.
Roman looked at him strangely, and went back to his conversation. Logan's eyes widened, and he looked at Virgil. He shook his head discreetly. Virgil shrank back.
"I'm sorry, Pat, but I need your help."
Patton sighed over the phone. Tears pricked at Virgil's eyes. He sounded so down... so broken.
"Okay, buddy, what is it?"
"A... friend of mine is having trouble remembering something, and we really need him to remember. What can we do to speed it along?"
There was silence on the other end. Patton seemed to be mulling over the question.
"Well... try to recount the events of the memory. It may trigger something in them that they need to remember."
Roman nodded, his tongue sitting between his teeth.
"Hey, Patton?"
"Mm?"
"Are you okay?"
A soft laugh on the other end made the dam break. Tears streamed down Virgils face.
"Not really. Is that all?"
Roman nodded to himself. "Yea. Feel better." He hung up.
Virgil buried his head between his knees. A sob broke its way out of him, and it was like the dam burst all over again. He sat on the floor, head between his knees, crying and rocking back and forth. He felt a hand on his shoulder, and he looked up to see Logan. He jerked violently.
"Don't touch me!" He screamed hysterically.
Logan's eyes filled with anger, but he didn't do anything. He just stared.
"Let's go, Roman." He said coldly.
Fine. Virgil thought. Leave me.
I don't care.

Roman came back in a few minutes later and sat in front of him.
He'd stopped crying, but he couldn't get Patton's voice out of his head.
As broken and painful as a smashed mirror.
Roman dramatically screwed up his face and whispered 'ew' as he sat down. Then he looked at Virgil sympathetically.
"I've seen you around."
Virgil just stared at him.
"With Patton. He adores you. I know because I've seen you before." Roman sighed. "If I'd realised before, I would've taken the call elsewhere."
Virgil turned his head and looked downwards. His bangs hung in his eyes, which he hoped conveyed that he so did not want to talk. But Roman badgered on anyway.
"I'm-"
"Don't tell me you're sorry."
Roman looked at him in surprise.
"Huh?"
"I know you're not sorry, so save us the time and breath."
Roman sighed and shrugged. He stood... then promptly fell over his own feet.
Virgil gasped dramatically. "The empire has fallen!"
Roman smiled lightly at him, then stood up and walked to the door.
"The threat still stands!" Was the last thing he heard before the door closed.

Logan sat in front of Virgil, searching his face for something.
"Okay. So what happened that day... I had just finished up when I heard a gasp. I turn, and you're standing there, staring from me to the body, pale and scared. I panicked, and I came over to you, grabbed your arm, and, when you struggled, hit you over the head."
The last piece clicked into place. Virgil had been coming home from a party Patton had dragged him to. He'd decided to take a short cut through an alley, which came out into the parking lot of a small grocery store. Logan had been standing just to the right of a street lamp, in the shadows, finishing up with the body. He'd gasped and Logan had snapped around. When he'd grabbed him, Virgil twisted and pulled and tried to scream, but then Logan lifted an arm and then the world went black.
"Oh my god. You're..." Virgil felt horrified.
He remembered the look of the body. It had been mutilated beyond all recognition, which meant...
"You're him."
The corner of Logan's mouth raised slightly.
"You remember."
Jack the Ripper style killings. Always the same type of person... the vigilante method. Careful, precise. Methodical.
"Oh my god. Oh my god."
He'd been kidnapped by the most notorious serial killer in the state.

So how do we feel about this, kiddos? Not good? No? Okay. Idk anymore... I just thought a lot about this story and I was so excited to write it... and I feel like I butchered it. But anyway! Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy so far.
