Chapter 12

Well training wasn't too bad. I took a look around at my new team. It seems the training has paid off for most of them. Well... maybe not Helga. I don't think any amount of training would fix her! Looking over at her now I see she's already figuring out who next to try out her 'experiments' on. Next to her, Shelby and Kelby are huddled closely together. Most likely scheming on their next daring trick. Runa and Halvar were talking to each other and when I say talking, I mean Halvar is talking to Runa and Runa is edging away. Not wanting him to. And as for Asta and I, we're waiting nervously beside each other. Knowing that Chief Hiccup would be along any minute now. As soon as we were thinking about him, sure enough, Chief Hiccup arrived alongside his dragon Toothless and the whole gang accompanying him. His mother, Valka and Cloudjumper her Stormcutter arrived soon after. Boy, this must definitely be more important than I-we originally thought. As Chief Hiccup approached, I noticed him holding a parchment letter with a Terrible Terror on his shoulder. Terror mail! Chief Hiccup addressed us and began talking. "Alright you lot. As I'm sure you are aware, something big is going on. And I don't mean those dragons we rescued that were being forced to carry Vikings on their backs like some sort of object. I mean a much much bigger problem that threatens the entire existence of the dragons! And, if not stopped. They could disappear forever!" He let this sink in before continuing. "We have recently discovered a new threat which resides in this piece of parchment that was delivered to us through Terror mail" Chief Hiccup held up the piece of parchment and at the bottom I noticed it was signed by the Beserker chief, Dagur. "As you all know. Back in the time when we were dragon riders. We met some allies. And one of these allies were the Beserker tribe. Heather and Dagur. Now over these last few years we have been attending our business and so have they. But we still keep in touch for old times sake as well as to warn each other of incoming threats. And one of those threats has unfortunately come to our shores. Now this new enemy is relentless and dangerous. And worst of all, they have developed weapons that can kill dragons with ease. These Vikings would rather dragons never existed. And they have the means to do it. Now I'm not sure what these weapons look like. But if they can kill dragons within a matter of minutes, then we need to take action now! And that's why we've had you lot trained over the past few days. Our time - the dragon riders - time is up. We have our duties here on Berk. You however, are young and fit. You will go out and stop this new threat. And you will work as a team to do so! You are the Dragon Protectors".
