That book cover was the very first thing I ever made on my brand new Canva account - an account I opened just so that I could make a book cover for the novel I was about to self-publish. It was amateurish and I am utterly amazed that it won second place in a sub-category. 

The black silk is actually deeply significant - you're looking at the kink flag my protagonist wears around her wrist. "Magister" gave her a black scarf. That's the scarf. For the duration of her apprenticeship, she wears it on her right wrist, the right-hand side being the side of submission. If you want to take a deep dive into the semiotic meaning of kink flags, Google "hanky code" and have fun reading. 

Of course, I entered Ancilla into the Romance category in this contest. And I randomly picked a sex scene from a hat to submit it to Best Sex Scene (it's a work of erotica; picking just one sex scene as my favorite is like asking me to choose which of my four children is my favorite. I can't). And I submitted it to the Best Aesthetics category, because I quite like the aesthetic collages I've been coming up with. 

I've been assigned KatherineJones92 as my Romance judge. She is the sole sponsor and judge of the aforementioned Lucky In Love awards, that I entered a while ago. I'm not going to get my expectations high for placing well in the Romance category of the Olivia's Choice Awards. I've already read some of her work for one contest; I voted on all the chapters of another one of her works (must massage the Wattpad algorithms!) and read some of that too, although I don't think I left comments on it.
