Newt
Minho and I talked all the way to the mall, we hadn't hung out as much since Thomas and Ben came into the picture, so it was nice to do something, just the two of us. When we arrived Minho locked arms with me and dragged me into the first store he saw that sold tuxes. He and one of the store's employees picked out 5 different outfits for me and we ended up deciding on a classic black tuxedo with a bow tie. Minho was absolutely convinced that Thomas would "lose his shit" when he saw me in it. After paying for my suit we left the store and went in search for something to eat. I attempted to ignore the constant buzzing of my phone, knowing full well that it wasn't Thomas who all the messages were from.
Minho
Newt and I ordered some Chinese food from one of the many small restaurant booths in the food court before taking our food and sitting down at a table in the middle of the crowded room. Newt seemed anxious about something, I figured it was probably just because of all the people around so I struck up a conversation.
"This is great you know," I began, "just the two of us hanging out like the old days." That got a small smile and a nod out of him.
"Yeah," He said teasingly, "no boyfriends to worry about." I smiled widely.
"There's the Newt I remember," I exclaimed patting him on the arm.
"Hey," I said calmly, "you seem anxious. Everything okay?" He nodded, but his eyes seemed empty. "Come on Newt." He looked up at me as I continued. "You can lie to everyone else. You can lie to yourself. But you can't lie to me. I'm your best friend, and I know when something is bothering you." Newt's smile was no longer there and he was looking down at his food with a sad expression. I moved my chair over next to his and put my arm around his shoulder. "What's wrong Newt?" Without a word Newt pulled his phone out of his pocket and laid it on the table in front of me. I hesitated before picking it up. I couldn't believe what I saw. On the lock screen there were countless text messages, all from Gally.
You disgusting slut
How many boyfriends do you need?
Damn moving quickly aren't you?
Does your precious Tommy know your cheating on him with Minho?
Man whore
Ugly
Filthy
Worthless
Slut
Everyone hates you
No one cares about your stupid "problems"
"I'm gonna kill him," I growled through gritted teeth. "Is he stalking you?" Newt shook his head.
"He just happened to see us walking in," he said sadly.
"How long has he been doing this?" I asked gently. Newt shrugged.
"Started a little after we broke up."
"Newt why didn't you tell anyone?"
"I thought I could handle it! It's nothing worse than what I already think of myself..." I sighed sadly, closing my eyes as I thought through my words carefully.
"Newt," I began, "I've told you this before, and I'll tell you again and again until you finally start to believe it. You are the nicest, smartest, bravest, most amazing person I have ever met. I care about you more than anything, Thomas cares about you more than anything, your mom cares about you more than anything, and none of us want to see you upset. Ever. I know you can't help how you feel, but I want you to be happy. We all do." Newt gave me a small smile after wiping away a few stray tears that had fallen down his face.
"People don't give you enough credit Min," Newt said after a few seconds, "thank you." I smiled gently before picking up his phone and putting it in my pocket.
"Today is gonna be the best day of your life," I said, "and I'm not about to let and asshat like Gally ruin it." When he didn't protest, I continued, "Now let's get out of here and kill some time before we have to get ready." Newt nodded in agreement and the two of us stood up and walked out to my car.
I took him all around town, and we stopped at every store that seemed interesting. First, a clothing store where I convinced Newt to buy a scarf that looked fabulous on him. Then, another clothing store but this time I got sunglasses and two new shirts. After that, a pet store where Newt fell in love with every animal he saw, including the newts. When I finally managed to drag him out of there, I had one more place I wanted to go. Newt looked at the time.
"Shouldn't we be heading back by now?" He asked as I drove in the opposite direction of my house.
"This shouldn't take too long," I said keeping my eyes on the road. I pulled into the parking lot while Newt gave me a confused look.
"...a jewelry store?" He asked furrowing his eyebrows. "Min I know you love sparkles, but we need to get ready." I took a deep breath.
"I wanna get Ben a ring." I blurted out quickly. Newt's eyebrows shot to the top of his head while his eyes widened to the size of saucers.
"Min..." Newt started, "You're 16!" He exclaimed.
"17 in three days!" I cried out in defense.
"Minho, you can't get married your in high school!" He said, sounding like my mother, "And besides, he lives in New York!"
"No!" I exclaimed as I realized I hadn't explained. "No, not an engagement ring." I said, "I want to get a promise ring." Newt exhaled in what appeared to be relief.
"You almost gave me a bloody heart attack you shank," Newt said. "I guess a promise ring would be a really nice thing to get him." A wide grin spread across my face.
"Let's go!" I called jumping out of the car. Newt shook his head and followed me inside. After picking out the perfect ring and paying for it the two of us went back to my house to get ready.
Newt
What began as getting ready turned into me being done in less than 20 minutes, and Minho taking over an hour to "perfect" his hair and make himself look "stunning."
"Minho!" I called banging on the bathroom door, "Get your bloody ass out here we're gonna be late for pictures!" The door swung open making me jump back, and a perfectly primped Minho stood in the doorway.
"Slim it shuckface," He said, "I'm finished." I rolled my eyes as I followed him downstairs and out to his car. Once we were on the road I asked Minho for my phone back.
"Nope," was his answer.
"Why not?" I asked exhausted, I can handle this myself.
"Because I'm not letting an asshole with big eyebrows ruin your special night." He said it so decisively that I couldn't argue. I let out a resigned sign instead.
"Fine," I concluded, "just let me know if my mom texts me." He smiled, so I took that as a yes.
When we finally reached Thomas's house I felt butterflies in my stomach.
"You nervous?" Minho asked. His tone lacked the teasing and mocking it usually carried and was instead laced with unease.
"Little bit," I replied, "but I'm always anxious." Minho let out a small laugh. "You can do it," I told him. "The worst that can happen is that he says no." Minho glared at me with no harshness and I smiled in return. He shook his head, allowing a smile to grace his features.
"Thanks Newt."
"Anytime."
