♆ Mermaids Don't Get Grammar ♆

It is always me walking into the café. Always begins another day with me going into the café. I walk into the café when I see the mermaid group together.

“What is the problem now, this is repeating too many times,” I sigh.

Zac answers, “Evie’s dad letting people dive near Mako.”

“Well at least I came here before a swim,” I smile.

Ondina explains, “We have to stop your father from taking people out there.”

“Why,” Erik asks, “If we stay away, there is nothing to see.”

Sirena and Mimi exchange eye contact as he continues, “If you need to go out there, just cloak yourselves.”

Ondiana fights back like she always does, “Cloaking ourselves is not the solution.”

She starts to walk outside the cafe, “He’s your father, keep him away.”

Erik and Mimi follow her while everyone else stays put.

“So, Ash,” Evie gets off subject and gets into my business , “How was the date last night?”

I bite my lip as Sirena comes in, “You had a date?”

                              Zac gets included too, “Who?”

I look over at Jake and back at them.

Sirena and Zac trade stares as Evie questions, “So how was it?”

“We watched some movies,” I smirk, “And….”

She gasps, “Did you guys kiss?”

I groan, “If we did, don’t start fangirling like I did when I saw the Force Awakens teaser trailer.”

Evie smiles, “Wish I could give you a good job swim.”

                              “A swim?” Jake comes over.

“Ash you told me you didn’t like swimming,” he asks in a silent tone but I know he is mad.

I nudge Evie, “Evie didn’t even know, right Eve?”

                              She lies, “Yeah, sorry.”

“So,” he looks at me, “Do I have a new title?”

I smile, “Yes, you are now Superman.”

“And you’re Lois Lane,” he says before he dives for my lips.

I let him kiss me. After he is finishes, he waves goodbye and goes to do his job.

                              “That was close,” Sirena speaks.

I sigh, “I just don’t like that I have to lie to him.”

“Believe me,” Zac stares at me then at Evie, “It was hard for me to lie to Evie.”

I sigh, “Well now you guys are both merpeople, Jake and I, whole different story.”

“Same here,” Sirena agrees, “Me and David.”

                              “David and I,” I correct.

She rolls her eyes, “What does it matter?”

“Right you mermaids don’t know grammar,” I moan, “So I was going to go for a swim, but I guess I can’t anymore.”

I sigh, “So bored, well I’m always bored.”

                              They all shrug in response.

“Fine,” I stand up, “I’ll just rewatch Ghostbusters.”

                              Sirena questions, “Ghostbusters?”

I start to sing the Ghostbuster theme song as I walk backwards, “When there is something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call?”

“Ghostbusters!” Jake shoots his fist up in the air.

                              I smile, “Thank you, Superman.”

                              “Your welcome, Lois,” he smirks.

I laugh and walk out of the café to find Erik, standing alone watching Ondiana and Mimi strolling away.

“So how is your girlfriend?” I nudge him.

He rolls his eyes, “We aren’t dating.”

“Sure and I don’t love The Avengers,” I roll my eyes back.

He looks at me, “Do you ever stop making movie references?”

                              “Never,” I smirk.

Erik watches her again “It’s so hard.”

“You think your romance is hard,” I start to yell at him but quietly, “I have to keep from my boyfriend that I’m a fish freak. You both get to swim the depths together; you don’t care if she gets water on her and pops a tail. Well he is going to care so stop complaining,” I stomp away angrily.

Erik sometimes can get on my nerves. Ugh just will ever shut up?

I launch on to my couch and put him Ghostbusters once I get home. My parents walk over.

“Honey,” my mom asks, “Are you okay?”

I nod and lie, “I’m fine.”

“You sure because we know when our daughter is not okay,” my father says.

I lie again, “Really I’m fine, where are you guys going?”

“There is a dive tour,” my mom smiles, “Want to join us?”

I’m not really listening; I’m just watching a librarian getting tormented by a ghost on the TV.

“No thank you,” I smile, “Have fun.”

They walk out the door and I continue to watch Ghostbusters. Right when the epic finale is going to start, I start to hear the classic Indiana Jones theme. It comes from my phone. I pick it up.

                              “Hello?”

“Hey honey,” it’s my mom’s voice, “Are you okay?”

“Yes what about you?” I ask.

My mom sigh, “Something happened with the diving tour so we are coming home early.”

The dive tour? Oh how could I be so stupid?! The dive tour with Evie’s dad.

“Where are you guys?” I ask rapidly.

Not just because it is the dive tours that are near Mako, what if my parents drowned?

“The pier near the house,” she replies.

Before I hung up, I say back, “I’m coming.”
