9. The Kindness of an Evil God

"Your majesty was that really alright? We could've brought him with us."

"It's fine. He hadn't much to say anyway.", The Sultan replied as he recalled the last words of the soldier.

Ragnarök... One of Humanities rights as "The True Race of Midgard", known as the end of the old world. The final war between all races with only one goal, killing off each other until only one remains.

An Event that "will" happen has "Finally" Happened...

"But why?", The Sultan asked himself, as the question he had only increased.

"Your majesty. Trying to understand the thoughts of those lowly humans is a waste of your time. They will all fall sooner or later."

Hearing his maid's words, the Sultan sighed. She was right yet he felt like he was missing something. An important piece he would need to complete the puzzle before him and as he tried to figure out how to get it a non-existent presence appeared next to him, "Your majesty, please leave that to me."

"Namy?", The Sultan replied as he saw the second outer god he created, a simple dark mist that kept changing its form in various ways until it took the form of a small girl with blond hair.

"I want to help you, your majesty!", The girl said, confident in her abilities.

Ah... Right... Namy does change her personality too once she transforms... I still didn't get used to it... But...

"Why not, this kind of things are your specialty anyways."

"Yay! So, what can I do for you!", The girl asked, throwing herself on her creator's lab as happiness filled each fiber of her body.

"I want you to get me all informations about Ragnarök and humanities reason for starting it."

"As you wish!", She quickly replied, smiling bright as she hugged her creator tight before vanishing into thin air.

"And as for me... I will do what I can do best."

"And that is?", The Sultan's maid asked as she watched the entire scene.

"Bringing despair and destruction while corrupting the mortal realm."

"I see... Then please watch out and don't take any things from strangers."

"You worry too much.", The Deity responded snipping his fingers as he engulfed himself in black mist, returning himself to the mortal realm once again.

Walking through the sheer endless forest of Alfheim the Sultan stopped his hike as he finally spotted a small number of humans.

All of them seemed wounded in some way and suffered from immense pain, leaving them unable to notice the deity's existence within them.

But as the Daemonic ruler walked through the mass of suffering and despair a single man caught his attention.

A soldier, unlike the others, yet not any different than them as his body lost all its flesh. His body trembled in pain as wounds covered each inch of his skin. His eyes were filled with the desire to die yet also filled with the fear to make live worse for the ones around him as they would lose any hope if he vanished.

Watching him the deity got closer to him until a sudden sound brought him back to reality, "A letter?", The Sultan said confused as he looked at the origin of the sound, quickly grabbing the source of the despair that filled the hearts of the humans.

It was a letter which confirmed their soldiers defeat and the closing of the Bifröst by the empire.

"I see... That explains the despair that devours this place right now... You poor children...", Saying that the Sultan was ready to end their suffering and harvest their souls but quickly discarded that decision as he closed the gap between him and the dying soldier that caught his attention.

Strange... Somehow, I don't want to kill you...

Thinking that the Sultan laid his hand on the human's head as he slowly started to heal them, flinching for a moment as he absorbed the pain and suffering as payment for doing so.

Noticing the sudden vanishing of his pain the Soldier grabbed the deity's arm as he begged him to safe the others first.

"Sigh... Don't worry I will. Just let me finish you first.", The Sultan replied, confused by his own kindness.

Once finished the Sultan stood up to keep his promise and immediately went from person to person as he freed each one of them of their pain, leaving all of them speechless as they looked at their healed bodies.

Seeing that sight the Sultan found himself smiling as he leaned himself against a wall, enduring the pain that crawled through his body as price for his newfound kindness.

But as the Sultan watched them the soldier approached him, "Please forgive me... But outside of this forest is a group of paladins which probably have it worse than us... I beg you... Please... Please safe them... They sacrificed themselves for us and went head on against the royal hunters of the empress... It's only thanks to them that we're still alive..."

Hearing that, the Sultan smiled as he patted the humans head, "Fine... But that has a price~"

"A price?"

"Yes."

The soldier hesitated but quickly changed his mind as he believed in the being before him, "I will pay it! No matter what!"

"I see... Then please wait here and just keep 'Believing'.", Following his words the Sultan engulfed himself once again in black mist, disappearing from the forest as he found himself at a fresh battlefield, "There are quite the handful of these lately. But I guess this is only normal in times like these."

While talking to himself Azathoth looked through the vast battlefield until he spotted the sparks of a battle.

Once arrived at the scene the Sultan spotted the group, he searched for. But the moment he saw them a single question conquered his mind.

Are those... really humans?
