Ch.5- Repercussions

I woke up in the Nurse's office. My head was pounding and my body ached. I really went overboard with the spells, I drained myself dry. I sat up grabbed my glasses off of a nearby table and put them on. I could hear the echo of vague voices creep in from down the hall, then footsteps, someone was coming. I heard a knock at the door, "Myra you awake yet?" It was Tyler, what a relief. "Yeah come in". "Damn, you're in deep shit....like REALLY deep shit." "Mind refreshing my memory a bit? Things are a little hazy." Tyler took out his phone swiped around and propped it up against his palm. There was a video loading. The video had a girl with long kinky hair floating in a purplish aura of some kind "Look familiar". "Shit." As the video continued the memories flowed back, it felt as though I was in a dream, I examined myself, my hair moved and flowed upwards, the whites of eyes had gone black, and my voice was something unnatural. "Myra, that was the most badass thing I've ever seen, we gotta make a new spell like that!" "We?" "Yeah, we're in this together, plus I've helped you with magic stuff before, remember when we made those nightmare spells and used Nyquil to make me fall asleep faster?" "Yeah, you also got drunk off of it and rambled about conspiracy theories and global warming." The video ended. "So what happened after I passed out? How long have I been out? What did I miss? What the fuck is going on?" "Well, Oxbridge showed up out of nowhere with some salt water and poured it on you, he said it was 'just in case' but I think he just wanted to fuck with you a little. Flarity finally let go of Schmitt, who's really pissed by the way, then they and a few others tended to everyone who was affected by your spells, oh and I found something". He reached into his pocket and pulled out a long semi charred sliver of what was left of my book. "This was all that survived."

He handed it to me and I just stared at it. Damn, the thing I wanted to save and did all this for was gone, nothing but crispy remains left in its place, what kills me most in, the note my dad left in it was nothing but ashes and memories. "Where'd you find it?" "Kevin got questioned in the office, he said he lit it on fire in the boys bathroom after class, then how he nearly lost control of the flame and had to put it out using the urinal." I threw the remains on the ground "Why in fucks name would he do that? Aren't there fucking sinks in there?!" "He said it was because he panicked." "Idiot." "How do you know all this?" "While they interviewed I was able to listen in to most of what they were saying, well yelling, I just got cleared to leave, so I came here to see what was going on with you." "Thanks" "Also, your mom is here and I'm pretty certain they're gonna call you in soon, I gotta go before they find out I was here."

The door opened again, this time a less friendly face, Mrs.Schmitt, who looked like she wanted to choke me "Good you're awake, come with me," her voice was low and monotone, Tyler really wasn't kidding when he said she was pissed. She led me to Oxbridge's office, where he and my mother were getting in a heated feud over me. "What she did cannot and will not be tolerated!" "I understand that sir, but a lot of this could have been avoided" "And how is that?"

"Well, I'm not a genius, but I thought educators were taught about how to stop the use of magic and defend themselves and others from it, from what I've heard, all I can gather is that you were incompitent along with your staff at handling the manner, moreover, if Myra would have let's say used some spells that were less emotion and mental driven. Like oh I don't know, making poison or radiation, or something even deadlier, she could've killed herself and who knows how many people. Why didn't you just toss some salt on her, that should've bought you some time or better yet, call someone who could use magic, ". To be frank, I didn't know you could just cancel magic with salt, I thought it had to be salt water and that was it. I really gotta study more of the nitty gritty stuff, also why the fuck did Flarity not correct me. I'll look into this later.

"Mrs.Dough, I know that you and Myra are good people at heart". "I know we are, the hell is your point, you're starting to piss me off." Mom is about to go in, I can feel it. I wish I brought snacks like Tyler did, this is about to get good. "Oh look Myra's here,'' damn, he really just used me as a scapegoat, what a cop out. "Have a seat." I sat next to my mother, she looked at me, her red eyes emphasizing her frown and anger. "Myra, you mother has been informed of all that has transpired, so I'll keep this brief. You are expelled from Hawkins High, we ask that you clean out your locker before you go, and return any books belonging to the school."

"Don't think you can walk away from this Myra", my mother screamed while I sped walked to the car. I got to the door and pulled the handle "Shit it's locked" I murmured. My mom charged over to me, dismissal letter in hand and a soul piercing scowl on her face. She looked down "We regret to inform you that due to your daughter's actions:

1. The endangering of Students and Faculty

2. Harassment of Students

3. Harassment of Faculty

4. Use of Magic in a harmful manner

5. Malicious use of magic against, Students and Faculty

6. Bullying

She will be expelled from Hawkins High and barred from school grounds, if found in violation of this, she will be charged with trespassing". "He forgot one", my mother did not seen impressed by my observation. "Get your ass in the car, and don't try to sit in the backseat, that won't save you". My mother began to back out of the parking spot, then I felt a sharp jerk. I turned around to see what would make her stop, then I saw her, Susan Reel. She approached my mother's side of the car, "Hello Mrs.Dough", she said in her usual overprivileged tone. "Hello Susan". "Oh, hey there Myra, I heard about what happened to you and everything, hope it all works out in your favor", then she gave me a grin. "While on the subject of favor, can you do me one Susan?" "Sure, anything for you Myra my dear". "Eat a dick". My mother's head turned so fast I thought her neck would snap. "Myra! Apologize to her this moment" my mother turned back Susan "I'm sorry sweetie, I don't know what would make her say such a thing, and apologies for almost backing into you". "It's alright Mrs. Dough, I should've been paying more attention and it's okay Myra, I forgive you". "I didn't say sorry Susan." "You didn't have to", she gave me another bullshit grin. I scowled at her, "Despair" I hissed, her grin was gone and then followed by a frown and a few tears, she ran away from the car.

"Why the hell did you do that Myra, oh that poor girl". My mom started checking the rear view searching for her while backing out. "What? She's the one who started it, you saw how she was grinning and I know for a fact you heard her tone. "I'm not deaf Myra, of course I heard it, I chose to not let it stop me from being civil, take notes". "The spell I used wasn't even that strong, and I'm pretty sure the tears were for dramatic effect". "Dramatic effect or not, using a spell like that on her was totally uncalled for and unnecessary, you already told her to eat a dick, what were you hoping to gain?". I let out a sigh, turned my head away, and looked out the window, watching the streets go by. "We'll just talk about all this when we get home". I pulled out of phone and headphones and searched my playlist for something to listen to, my mom didn't take too kindly to that either, when the approaching stop light turned red she once again gave me her signature scowl. "Do you actually think after the way you've been acting I'm gonna let you sit here and listen to some damn music", she yanked the headphones off my head, she closed her eyes and took an intensely deep breath, "Teleportation". "Was that really necessary? And the lights green". "Are you really in any place to talk about what's necessary? Really, do I need to read the list to you a second fucking time Myra? Or do I need to bring up the spell you used on that girl? Instead of talking and questioning what I'm doing, sit there, shut up, and see what I have planned for you at home". The drive home was silent after that, real shocker right, my mother made no attempt to speak to me and vice versa. Frankly, I wish the drive was a bit longer, because I knew the next conversation is gonna be a shit show.

We pulled into the driveway, I waited for my mom to get out of the car, then I locked it and followed behind her, I would've made a run for the door and lock myself in the bathroom, but I left my key on my dresser. I walked through the door and thought of making a break for it, "Don't even think about or try to go up those stairs". Dammit, she beat me to the punch. "What's stopping me from doing it then?" my mom walked right up to me, then proceeded to tower of me, a whole 6 inch difference, scary. "Me, and I'm the only one that knows where your headphones are and your phone, remember?". "Fair Point". I've been standing around in the doorway for what feels like 10 minutes, I say feels like because my phone got teleported to some undisclosed location, and without my consent mind you. My mom finally reappeared with her laptop, my headphones, my phone, a few papers, and strangely enough, some books, all neatly stacked on top of eachother. "What's going on mom?" "Come into the kitchen, let's have a chat".

The silence in the kitchen was unnerving. I think if I pulled a strand of hair out and dropped it on the floor, we'd heart it loud and clear. My mom didn't speak, just click clanking away on her laptop, the light from it filling her glasses and radiating her mocha colored skin. Finally she stopped, and turned it towards me "This is where you'll be attending school from now on." The place didn't look all that special, it was big I'll admit, but nothing to write home about. "What made you pick this place?" I asked scrolling through their website. "Well, since you like using magic so much, I figured why not send you to a school that had an even balance between magic and the regular highschool fundamentals. Plus they're pretty tough on their students from what I've read, just what you need for causing such a scene." "I didn't cause a scene I simply acted in my best interest." "That doesn't make it okay, sure there were reasons to explain the way you acted but you could've gone about it so much smarter. The only reason I'm not putting you through a fucking wall is because 1. I'm tired 2.I had a long day at work 3.I had to cancel and rearrange my schedule to come up to your school so I'm behind and 4. I have things planned for you, you won't start that school for a little over a week, plenty of time for punishment." Oh shit. "Also, about earlier, what was the other thing they didn't charge you with? Dare I ask." "Vandalism." "I'd take that over most of the stuff on this list," she smiled.

"So, what are the papers for?" "One is an overview about what happened, the other is the dismissal letter, some are from work, and I think there's a flyer for some new take out place." "Alright." "I know this may make me sound like a shitty parent, but I saw a video of you in action, and I'm not gonna lie, I was kinda proud, in a strange way. Your dad did a great job teaching you, but I bet he didn't go over any of the fundamentals with you." "Yup, I didn't know you could just use salt on someone, I thought it was just salt water". "Yup, that sounds like him" my mother chuckled. "I miss him Myra, I really do," her voice grew quieter. "We used to have some good times, ooh, remember when he couldn't get the grill to start up so he used magic on it" "Yeah, and he caught your rose bushes on fire" We both broke out into a fit of laughter. "Oh you remember when he made you weightless so he could toss you into the air and catch you, but you got stuck in that tree?" "Yeah, then when you saw me up there you cussed him out, made him weightless too, and kicked him up there with me". "Yeah". It's moments like these that I live for, times when I can just sit down and laugh with my mom, the kind of moments you wish you could just live in forever. "I know you've been listening in on me in the morning." "How'd you know?" "Myra, I'm a mother, and a witch, not much gets past me." She paused. "Look, I'm okay, yeah I cry, but that doesn't mean I'm in need of help or repair, it's just hard sometimes and you gotta let it all out" "But this much, you broke your record for crying mornings?" "Look, don't focus on me, I can handle myself. I will admit, that car accident took me by surprise and threw me for a loop, I was broken down and nearly lost my mind, but I'm doing fine, it's you you should worry about, not me." My mother got up, walked over to me and held me. "You were his everything Myra, he loved you more than you could ever imagine, and I know you're hurting deep down, but it's okay, we've got each other. Time and love are all we need right now." I started to cry, tears soaking my mom, she didn't let me go. "Just let it out."
