Chapter 1

I got out of the car and ran with my baby sister in my arms. I sat in a swing with her.

"Mama! Look!" Adrianna giggled. She was three years old.

"Aw! My two girls spending sister time together!" My mom smiled.

"Oh mom!" I laughed. "You know I'm too old for that."

Mom fake gasped. "Alright Katie, no need to be so mean!"

"Really? Just, really?" I shook my head.

I looked over and saw a boy with blonde hair and blue eyes sit down on a bench. "Mom, take her." I handed Adrianna to my mom and sat next to him. "What's your name?" I asked.

"Ryder." He stated. He grabbed his phone and started listening to music.

"Great." I huffed and started walking away.

"Wait!" Ryder grabbed my hand. "You look," he thought for a moment. "Familiar."

"How?" I asked, clearly frustrated.

"What's your name?" He asked, circling me.

"I'm Katie, or if you want to be proper, Katelyn." I looked down.

"Hmm," He seemed lost in thought. "What school do you go to?"

"East wing High." I answered.

"I do know you!" Ryder exclaimed.

"Awesome?" I questioned.

"Katie! We got to get home!" My mom shouted. "Who's your boyfriend?" She and Adrianna ran over to us.

"Her what?!" Ryder exclaimed. "She has a boyfriend!?"

"No, but you seem awfully excited about if I did or not." I smiled. He blushed a deep shade of red.

"Naw!" Ryder defended.

"Yes." My mom and I said in unison.

"No ma'am." Ryder looked down.

"Ooo my mom has you all proper now, eh?"

"Naw!" He repeated.

"Whatever, I got to go." I smiled and began walking away.

. . .

Once I got home my mom was drilling me with questions.

"Is he your boyfriend? Did you meet him today? Do you like him?"

"No. Yes. Maybe." I blushed.

"Aw! My lil' girl is finally growing up!" She smiled. "Next thing ya' know, Adrianna will have eight kids!" She always added Adrianna into anything we talked about.

"Mom, why do you always talk about Adrianna?" I asked.

"I want to include her." She stated. "It's not right to include one kid, but not the other, unless they don't want included."

"Ah, that makes sense." I walked upstairs to my room; there was a note on my bed.

Dear Katie,

Meet me at the park tomorrow after school. I want to get to know you better. This might be the start of something great.

Sincerely,

I already knew who it was, even though I hadn't read the name. Ryder,

I did as he told me to. I waited on the swings.

"Katie?" Ryder appeared behind me.

"Ah!" I fell off the swing. "What was that for?!"

"Oh! Sorry!" He held out his hand for me to take. "Didn't mean to scare you!"

"Well you did!" I shouted, pushing his hand away.

"Aw! Did I make lil' Katie mad?" Ryder smirked.

"S-Shut up..." I blushed.

"Naw!" Ryder smiled.

"Now, what'd you want me to come here for?" I asked, getting straight to the point.

"Oh, right! I-I wanted to get to know you better." He smiled.

"Alright." I smiled back.

"Tell me about yourself."

"Well, my name is Katie. I like to sing, write, and listen to music. My favorite hobby is singing karaoke. I lost my dad. I've run out of things to say." I smiled.

"Awesome." Ryder smiled back.

"Tell me about yourself." I mimicked him.

"Alright," he smiled. "My name is Ryder, I like to play the guitar, listen to music, and take walks through the woods. My favorite hobby is taking nature walks with my friends. I lost both of my parents, and I have to raise my little brother, even though he's only one year younger than me."

"Aww!" I wrapped my arms around him.

"T-Thanks..." He blushed.

"You must be heartbroken!" I held him tightly.

"Yeah... It's pretty hard..." He looked down.

"You alright?"

"Yeah... I'm okay..." He looked up and smiled. "Wanna go to my place?"

"Sure!" I stood up and grabbed his hand, pulling him up. "Show me the way."

"No need..." He covered my eyes. About three seconds later he uncovered them and we were in a room with very dim lighting.

The walls were a dark brown, while the floor was covered in red carpet.

"Wow... How'd you do that?" I asked.

"Magic." He shrugged.

"Yeah right..." I didn't believe him.

"Hey, Ryder! Is that you?!" A boy with brown hair and green eyes walked in. "Why did- Oh hi!"

"Hi." I looked at him.

"Alex, this is Katie." Ryder explained.

"Oh my god! Does Ryder have a girlfriend?" Alex smirked.

"No!" Ryder and I said in unison.

"You guys should really keep it down..." A guy with red hair walked in, rubbing his eyes. "Oh. Hi! I'm Kayden."

"Katie..." I looked down.

"You didn't tell me you were shy..." Ryder whispered to me.

"Well I didn't know I was shy!" I retorted.

"Drama queen..." Ryder mumbled. "Anyways-"

"Drama queen?! You're the one that snuck into my house, which I didn't know you knew where it was, and left a note. 'This might be the start of something great." I sighed. "What is great exactly? Huh? And how did you get me here?"

Kayden and Alex stared at me in awe.

"Huh?! You said you used 'magic.' Magic isn't real." I got ready to leave.

"Wait!" Kayden grabbed my left arm. "You teleported in front of her?! She's just a mortal!"

"I..." Ryder looked down. "I'm sorry, okay? I just wanted to her here quicker so she could meet you guys!"

I saw tears form in his eyes as he stormed out of the house.

"Well, I guess since you know he has powers..." Alex sighed. "You need to stay here... Try to avoid him as much as possible."

"Alright..." I sighed. "Can I, at least, go get my phone from my house?"

"We've prepared already. For when he told a girl that he had powers, or showed her."

"I wish he wouldn't have done it again..." Alex sighed, looking at me. "But this one is prettier."

I blushed.

Kayden shook his head, chuckling. "You're weird." He flicked Alex in the head.

"Hey!" Alex covered his head with his hands.

I sat down on the couch.

"You can't be shy like this, you know. You still haven't met Sam or Shawn. We'll introduce you tomorrow, though." Kayden smiled, sitting next to me.

"Alright..." I smiled.

"You're alright, Katie, you know that?" He put his hands on his knees, getting up. "I've got to go to the store, I'll be back later. Alex, don't get in trouble. The same goes for you, Katie."

I giggled, waving. "Bye!"

"Bye Kay!" Alex waved.

"Don't call me Kay!" Kayden whined.

"Whatever." Alex chuckled, shutting the door after Kayden left. "Kay!" He shouted out the window.

"Kayden's right, you are weird." I giggled.

"So now you talk to me?" He smiled, sitting next to me.

"Yep!"

"These guys think I'm crazy, when I'm just misunderstood. Get ready for that to happen to you." He sighed. "I used to get all of Kayden's attention, just like you, until he found out I had a brother and gave him all of the attention. At least now it'll be someone worthy getting the attention."

"Uh-huh!" I smiled.

"You're nice..." Alex looked down at me.

"Thank you..." I smiled up at him.

"Cute, too." He smiled.

"Thanks..." I looked down.

"Are you feeling alright?"

"What? Oh yeah... I'm fine... Just feeling a little nervous, you know?" I sighed.

"Get ready for a wild ride; you'll be nervous all the time." He looked up at the ceiling.

"Yep..."
