Hidden rose (6/6)

While was Amy reconciling with her mother, everybody else gathered back in the lounge. The atmosphere was heavy since there was unnecessary outsider knowing their secret. Just saying the Rose family was connected with demons, would cause a big disaster. Their enemies wouldn't care they have an exceptional spiritualist in the family. Anything can be twisted if you try hard enough.

"Don't worry, I have no intention of telling anyone about this," he ensured them.

"How can we trust you?" asked Sonic. He didn't like the man since he first saw him. He looked like a snob full of himself. "You may say it just so we would let you go."

The young man slightly snorted. "I'm not a fool. The Rose family is an important business partner, their fall would affect my Earl family as well. Not to mention..." he smiled. "I'm now even more determinate to win miss Amy's heart."

"You what?!" the blue lad jumped on his seat, bristling and frowning.

"She can tame demons like nothing," he glanced at them and Crestia showed him a cheesy smile. He quickly looked away, "keep a cool head during a crisis and her will is strong, there is no more perfect partner for me than her." He nodded in Mr. Rose direction. "I have already decided my wife has to be a strong woman, capable of leading the company in my absence," he calmly explained.

"But Amy doesn't like you!!" the boy was almost causing a tantrum. Shadow was a bit at lost. He knew Sonic consider her as a friend and suddenly hearing she was supposed to have a wedding... it must have made him angry. They shared many adventures so he might be thinking he will never see her again.

"She is eleven," he started to observe the lad, "I myself wasn't thinking about starting family at that time either, but that will change as one matures. I still have a fair chance and I intend to use it the best way I can." He took a sip of tea. "So, who is miss Amy to you? Don't tell me you are in love with her." He meant that question to annoy that pesky kid. He doubted there was anything between them. The boy had no manners, was noisy, hot-headed and poor.

Sonic's face turned completely red. "A-Are you stupid!! She is terrible!" He jumped, standing on his seat, clenching fists. "She never listens and is causing just trouble!! B-But I'm not letting some old geezer trick her into a marriage!!"

"For the last time, I'm. Not. Old!!" the sokina growled.

The blue boy only stuck his tongue out.

"That's enough," rebuked him Shadow. "I understand you are not pleased with Amy having a fiance, but that doesn't excuse your behavior." The blue ears drooped and the tips were a bit red. The boy sat back. "I know you care for her, she is an important friend after all." He patted the azure quills. "Let her decide who she wants as her husband."

"Poor fella," commented it Silver nonchalantly drinking his tea. He was the whole time enjoying it as both parties were getting on each other's nerve.

Mr. Earl looked around, giving everyone a quick glance. "Putting demons aside, I can assume, you are not an ordinary people either, right?"

The exorcist was about the brag, but Gold stopped him by strongly nudging him in ribs to his utter annoyance. "I and Silver are special agents of The Order. Our task is to deal with supernatural stuff."

"I'm a priest," clarified himself Shadow and continued: "I'm a demon as well." Tho it was hard to say it, he didn't want to hide it in front of Amy's father and this man got involved too. The shock was clearly seen. "I'm afraid I can't go into the details, but I'll tell you there is a seal on my body hiding my true form." He rather left the cross out.

Mr. Rose was looking at him, astonished. A demon... okay, there were two of them... but being a priest on top of it? And the very same person saved his daughter? This man was a much bigger mystery than he had thought. So... that explained why he was able to beat the whole group of kidnappers. The reddish hedgehog gave him a strong nod, gesturing his agreement.

When the ebony priest said it, Brian froze having his teacup stopped in the half of its path to be returned on the table. With a doubting expression, he closely scanned him, making the other a bit nervous. As far as he could tell, he looked like any hedgehog... well, those up-facing quills might suggest horns, but still... He saw many quills styles, so that wasn't really strange. He merely lifted his eyebrow, taking a sip of the tea on a subconscious level.

Once this awkward moment was gone, Shadow introduced the blue boy's ability. "Sonic here has tremendous speed."

Brian made a smug expression. "Oh, how interesting." Now, this was hilarious. Maybe he will make him work as errand-boy for his business in the future.

The blue hedgehog boy snorted, baring his teeth and turning into a blue blur before anyone could stop him. Reagan and Brian showed a great surprise, not even trying to hide it. This night was full of astonishment. Crestia, on the other hand, seemed to be excited. Such fast prey! She felt an urge to pursue him rising, but he was many steps ahead of her, no matter how fast she was turning her head... making her feel dizzy after a while.

The blue blur slowed down, jumping over the back of the sofa, having crossed hands and bright smug smile. No matter, how much Mr. Earl was educated, he couldn't prevent his jaw not to slightly drop. This youngster had some real skill.

"See?" asked the boy with a smile from one ear to another. "Oh, right, you didn't see me," his imitation of Amy's impish smile was flawless. "You are too~ slo~w," he added at the end prolonging the last two words. Silver mentally give the blue lad bonus point, never intending to say it aloud. He was now desperately holding his laughter inside, after taking a glimpse of Brian's quills.

"Sonic!" rebuked him the ebony priest. But even he felt the urge to laugh. "How could you?"

"He asked for it! And he is a jerk!" he puffed.

The young sokina was dumbfounded, having no idea what they were talking about. He felt a wet spot on his shoulder, so he touched his quills. "What?!" he shouted, pulling out one flower taken straight from vases standing in the room. As he was taking them out, he counted a dozen of them.

"Fu fu fu," the psychic giggled evilly, "Well, well, I never thought you would be such flower, Mr. Earl."

Gold sighed, who was the child here? Brian gave him a death stare, he noticed too well he meant it in a negative way.

Once he adjusted his messed up quills, he stood up. "I suppose I'll go now, I have to prepare myself for tomorrow's departure." Sonic stick his tongue in his direction, but the man decided to ignore it. He was not going to stoop so low to bicker with a mere child... no matter how fast.

Mr. Rose stood a well, offering him a hand. "I thank you for your understanding." This was more than just keeping business secret. If this information would leak, the whole family might be ruined.

"It's no problem."

"By the way," started Silver stopping the sokina from leaving the room for the second time, "you aren't a normal citizen either. From what time snobs climbs a tree to eavesdrop?" he made sure to sound sarcastic.

The slightly blue hedgehog smirked. "Our family believes strong mind needs a strong body, so climbing a tree is not an issue."

Silver made satisfied smile acknowledging him. Once he left, the group decided to leave too as it was getting late and all of them felt tired. They refused to stay over the night, stating they have their own house. But before they could leave, Mr. Reagan asked Shadow to have a word with him.

The black priest felt a bit nervous... and maybe too often as of late, but he couldn't help it. His demonic nature was making him uneasy. He followed the reddish hedgehog to his office where he waited in front of a big table. There mister Rose opened the drawer, taking out a book. "I believe this is yours."

"My book!" He quickly took it.

"It was found in the hangar. I picked it up hoping to find some clues leading me to my daughter whereabouts. But now it's not necessary."

The priest bowed. "I thank you so much." Then they both went outside, where the rest of the group was waiting, but before Shadow joined them, he turned toward the man.

"I..." the demonic hedgehog avoided his eyes for a bit. "I'm not in the position to say this, but..." his voice sounded weak but then it turned firm. "It's not the bloodline that determinate who is and isn't a father." He slightly bowed, leaving a thinking hedgehog behind.

Later he found his wife and Amy sleeping in the bed. He smiled... and joined them. For a long time, he felt... free. All these years he kept a distance from Adeline, reminding himself he wasn't her true husband. But now... it might be the time for them to move forward... to become a real family.

Before he had fallen asleep, he remembered a bat woman, a fortune teller, stating Adeline will be in the end his wife and how much he hated himself for feeling happiness upon hearing it.
