Counting Down (warning)

"--rding to local officials. Seconds after the crime took place, the Quirkless Killer called the station on a disposable phone to admit to bombing the Quirkless Nursing homes. The police are currently reviewing any and every camera footage in the immediate area to try and locate the Quirkless Killer. He is now deemed a terrorist in Japan, and multiple heros have been called in to search the area as well as looking through the debris. So far there have been no survivors. If you or anyone you know were in these nursing homes, either as a resident, worker, or visitor, the police ask you to please contact them. They are looking for a baseline of how may missing persons there are. We will keep you updated as more news rolls in."

The newscator's voice was somber as he relayed the news.

Tsukauchi gulped. This was bad.

This was horrible.

Those four Nursing homes included the rest of Japan's quirkless elderly. The elderly were already fragile as old age settled in, but their quirklessness also aided in extra immune disorders.

People who are quirkless have bad immune systems as is, and can get sick extremely easy in most cases.

And it worsens with age.

These specific homes had nurse staff and 24/7 medical aid for the ones that needed it. Doctors were also staffed inside the facility.

The fact that all four were bombed and in shambles led Tsukauchi to know for a fact that the Quirkless Killer had planned all his murders for a long time.

Tsukauchi gasped, the kids!

"Yori! Go search how many quirkless kids are currently alive in Japan! Then get in contact with them and have someone keep tabs on them. Whatever happens don't let them hang up. Then contact the station located nearest to them--they'll need protection. If I'm correct, the nursing homes were first and is going to be used as a partial distraction as the killer finishes off the rest. Go, Go! GO!" Tsucauchi screamed.

Yori bolted out of the room, the weight of all the events crashing into his shoulder.

Quickly, Tsukauchi turned to Toshinori.

"Pick out which of these three was the kid you saw that day." He demanded before turning to the television to lower the volume.

Noticing Toshinori didn't move, Tsukauchi yelled at the oaf to hurry.

More people will die if Toshinori doesn't hurry the hell up.

The hero snapped out of his daze before turning to the computer. He clicked on all three files and a pop-up of each kid was displayed. He scanned them hurriedly before stopping at one with freckles in the form of a diamond.

"This one, he's the one I saw." Toshinori quickly stated, pointing to the picture on the far right.

Tsukauchi nodded before clicking on the more in depth file under the boy's picture. All his data popped up.

Izuku Midoriya

The bolded letters popped out from the screen along with the name Inko Midoriya. Their address was listed below as well as the house phone number.

"Toshinori, plug this into your phone and use a GPS to get there as fast as possible. Go check on them and make sure they are okay. Remain with them no matter what until more backup has arrived. Though, if," Tsukachi glanced at the screen, "Izuku doesn't want to see you after what you...said...then you need to stress the situation. In the meantime I'll try to contact the house number to make sure they are safe in the meantime. No go."

Toshinori, who had already inserted the address into his GPS, ran out of the door.

Tsukauchi looked for his phone, patting down all his pockets and searching his desk. Nowhere.

He rushed out of his office and began looking around frantically.

Now is not the time. Now is not the time. People are dying.

"Seven kids left! Get families on the phone!" Yelled a loud coworker.

"Sir! The lines cut out. There was a bang and a few screams beforehand." Said a shaky intern.

"Call them again, we don't know what happened, try to keep reaching them!"

The noise was blaring in Tsukauchi's ears as he searched around the break room for his phone. He practically turned the place upside down before spotting it laying by the fruit bowl.

He snatched it up before running back to his office.

"SIR! THE CALL HASN'T ENDED BUT A GUNSHOT HAS BEEN FIRED ON THE LINE!!"

"TRY TO TALK TO THE PERSON QUIETLY, CHECK FOR BREATHING AND TRY TO KEEP THEM ON THE PHONE UNTIL BACKUP ARRIVES. THEY'RE ON THEIR WAY."

Tsukauchi closed his door with a thud, making the loud voices barely a murmur.

He quickly went to his computer and dialed the home phone number. After a few rings, a shaky voice was heard.

"H-hello? Who is this?"

"Ah this is Detective Tsukauchi. Are you Inko Midor--"

"Yes! Yes! I'm Inko Midoriya--my son--my son Izuku isn't home yet! I saw--on the news--I saw what happened and...please," Inko broke down into tears, "please help me find him."

"Okay, ma'am. I'm sending someone over right now to stay with you. I'll also alert a search party to look for your son. Is there anywhere you know Izuku is? Perhaps a place he likes to go in his spare time." Tsukauchi was trying to multitask as he texted a Pro-Hero forum that was close to Musutafu. They were going to be the main search party he was sending out, however he was also going to text Nezu and Eraserhead to be on the lookout.

But he was distracted by a loud sobbing on the other side. "Mrs. Midori--"

"I'm just a--I'm a horr-orrible mother. I do-do-dont know where he would be be be-cause work has picked up..." She took a borderline hysterical inhale. "I don't know--he's never home any--anymore and I-I thought he--he was always home by this--this time but n-now he isn't. Ple-please..." She sounded like she was choking on her sobs.

"Mrs. Midoriya. I just sent the message put to the search party. My friend should be there soon to check on you. Please stay on the phone until he comes through the door."

He didn't get a reply from the mother, but her hysterical sobbing told him that she was still there.

He quickly finished up the text before pressing send.

Yes he had lied. But he only meant to reassure her until he finished typing the message.

There was a loud knocking on the other side of the phone.

A loud sniff came from Mrs. Midoriya. The flooring in their house creaked slightly. "Is that--is that your friend? I'll go--I'll get the door."

Tsukauchi heard her walk away but something didn't feel right.

He looked at the clock in his office. It had only been about six minutes since Toshinori left.

The drive was near eleven.

"No! Mrs. Midoriya don't open the doo--"

Tsukauchi didn't even finish his sentence before he heard a deafening bang and the fall of something heavy. There was screams.

Such loud screams.

His eyes widened. He looked at the clock.

No.

No....

"SHUT IT YOU BI--" The sound of a firearm being cocked was heard.

Tsukauchi was frozen, time going too slow yet speeding up at the same time. He felt caught between realities.

"No-no! My baby b-boy! Save my baby-y boy!" She screamed.

Tsukauchi could hear the raw devastation and betrayal emitting through the phone.

She thought he was the hero.

A shuffling was heard before a deep, sadistic laughter encased the room.

"I'm here to kill your son."

"N--"

A gunshot rang through the phone, followed by a loud thump and a sick crunch.

"Your child was born worthless. And they'll die worthless too."

Tsukauchi could hear his loud footsteps walking away--probably searching for Izuku Midoriya.

Tsukauchi's heart was racing, thumping loudly.

His breathing was accelerated and his chest felt like it was caving in.

He whispered into the phone. "Inko...Inko Midoriya..."

She's not dead. She isn't dead.

She can't be dead.

Tsukauchi heard no reply, and the silence was thick.

It weighed on his shoulders. He heard no sign of life besides the intruder stomping around elsewhere in the house.

He looked at the clock, it was close to the time Toshinori should arrive.

He moved to text Toshinori about the intruder before he sat back in his office chair, looking down at his lap, where his phone lay.

The call was still on.

Even as the Quirkless Killer yelled about the kid not being in the house.

Even as Toshinori ran into the home and saw Inko lying dead in her own blood.

Even as All Might fought the Quirkless Killer, eventually bringing him down.

Even as reinforcements arrived at the home and took the killer away.

Even as an ambulance arrived and began checking over Inko.

Even as Inko was declared dead at the scene before carted off.

Even as Toshinori found the phone and checked to see if Tsukauchi was there.

Even as Toshinori said something akin to nonsense in Tsukauchi's ears.

Even as Toshinori hung up.
