Chapter 3

We really do be changing it up though

Yusuke's POV

I don't think my mind has fully grasped what situation I've just put myself in.

Is there now proof I'm not gay? Kind of, but a yes.

Do I have to act out the part of being in a relationship? Yes

Have I ever dated? No.

So, the next thought process is how I managed to score a fake - rather, an 'official, unofficial' - girlfriend.

If we're honest, I haven't even looked at her. Generally, when you meet someone, you give the once over. I haven't done that, actually. I've looked at her drawings and her eyes. Her eyes are some of the most-

"Hey! Yusuke!"

I've been lost in thought, it seems. The last thing that fully registered in my mind was the closing of my dorm room door. It now seems we're outside.

"Rather nice day, isn't it?" I call back, approaching the sidewalk where my friends wait.

"Yeah!" Ann agrees, and I notice her attention shift to the girl on my right.

"Hey, Yusuke. Aren't you going to introduce us to your girlfriend?" It's Ryuji's turn to say something, and then I suddenly snap back into my thought process.

"Yes, of course. Y/N, these are my friends from the school in Aoyama Itchome; Shujin." I offer, and open my mouth to continue. "Ryuji Sakamoto is on the left, with Akira Kurusu, and then Ann Takamaki."

(I'm using Akira. I like that more than Ren, and if I use the name I used, it'd be a little difficult to take this seriously if Joker became Richy Thiccums)

"You forgot me!" Morgana hisses, and I smile to myself. Akira clears his throat.

"My mistake, I've forgotten Akira's cat, Morgana."

"HIS CAT? WHAT DO YOU MEAN?"

"A pleasure to meet you all. As I was introduced, I'm Y/N L/N." She nods in their general direction.

I decide to test her acting skills. In a moment, I'm going to raise my arm, and we're going to see if her acting skills are better than Ann's when she promised me a nude painting. I watch my friends acknowledge her presence for a moment. There's a couple once overs, and something in my head clicks into a protective feeling. I can't explain it's sudden appearance from nowhere.

"Where are we going today?" Ann asks Akira, and he shrugs.

"Well, we're going to Shibuya, we talked about it earlier," Ryuji throws his bit in.

"Anywhere in particular? I also hope you don't mind I brought Y/N along," I take this opportunity to lift my arm. My side is a bit cold for a moment, then I feel the warmth of another.

She wraps her arms around my stomach and I put my arm around her shoulders. I thank my lucky stars for her catching on. I also thank them for allowing me to choose a girl with actual body warmth. I wasn't expecting her to be cold, but not a nice, comforting warm.

"Of course not. We're happy to have her. It'd be nice to get to know her," Ann chimes in.

"Then, let's go to the station. Standing isn't going to do anything for us."

"Yeah yeah, he's right. Come on guys." Ryuji turns on his heel and leads the way to the subway station. I watch him lean into Akira and catch a mumbled: "I can't believe the bastard's not gay."

"Life is full of surprises," Morgana shakes his head and crawls back into Akira's bag.

Ann catches up to Ryuji and Akira, and I wait a second before I take my step. I look down at Y/N, who makes her second good connection and she lets go of my side.

"So, why are we going to Shibuya? I can leave when we get there if I'm a bother."

I chuckle quietly and respond: "You're not a bother. You're exactly what I need."

I watch her blush again, and in the short time I've known her, it's become one of my favorite things about her.

"Oh, yeah?" She asks, then shakes her head.
"You didn't answer my question. Why are we headed to Shibuya?"

"Well, I'm headed to Shibuya to hang out with my friends. You're headed to Shibuya to pick up a new folder. We're headed to Shibuya to make a debut as a couple."

"I knew why I was headed to Shibuya." She laughs and pulls away from me again.

My side is cold again, and it makes me sad.

"Now, come on! We have a train to catch!" She says and pulls my arm toward her. I smile at her, I think for the first time.

...

"The diner?" Y/N asks as our group stops outside the steps. She turns to me, lowers her voice and says: "I really thought, I dunno, you guys would be more exciting."

"Agreed." I mutter back.

"So... J-Akira, what's the plan for today?" Ryuji asks, Ann follows up with a glare in his direction.

"Nothing. We have mid-terms coming up."

"What?! No we don- OW! God, Ann! Watch it why don't you?"

There's a laugh to my left. It's the same laugh before she asked me if I did stand-up. Now that I think about it, I feel kind of bad I cut that laugh off.

"Hey, Y/N," Ann says over in her general direction.

"Yeah? What's up?" She asks in return.

Ann turns around and takes a step in our direction. "Why don't we head into the bookstore at the end of the road? There's a couple magazines I want to look at, but I can't really do it with these guys around." She smiles and throws her thumb in my, Akira's and Ryuji's direction.

"Oh! Sure! Yeah!" Y/N perks up and nods.
"I've been meaning to come out here anyway. I've lost my library card." She laughs again.

"Great! Come on! See you guys later!" Ann waves and heads down the block. Y/N smiles and waves and follows Ann.

"All right, come on guys. We've got a little meeting to hold." Joker motions for us to follow, and we head up the stairs into the diner.

...

"Would you like anything?" The waitress stops by our table, pulling her notepad out of her apron.

Ryuji and I shake our heads, but Akira puts his hand down. "Just water please. Thanks."

"Of course!" The waitress bows and heads toward the kitchen.

"Thank God, I knew you weren't useless," Morgana sticks his head out of his designated bag and looks between Ryuji and myself. Akira nods and pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

"So, it turns out you're not gay! That's definitely a surprise."

I laugh awkwardly. "Of course I'm not. Why would I be?"

"Because you're married to art."

"Damn, you killed him Morgana!" Ruji laughs, and a smile flashes on Akira's face.

"Here's your water," the waitress slides a cup onto Akira's side of the table, and then disappears across the building. Morgana takes the opportunity to stand up, and leans in to the table.

"Ryuji, hand me one of those straws, please."

"Yeah, here you go."

If you've thought a talking cat was weird, watching him drink from a straw is weirder. Kind of inspiring, actually. I've thought about drawing him before.

"So, you haven't been very forthcoming on details. What's Y/N like?"

Oh no. Oh shit. I'm going to have to think of something quick.

"Very nice. She's really talented and really smart. Just a pleasure to be around." I answer, as vague as I possibly can. And those eyes. When I told her I'd ensure she wouldn't regret the decision, those were the most beautiful things in the world.

"He knows nothing about her, case closed."

"H-hey! That's not true!" I reply, and my hands come up to the table.

"Dude, I'm a dipshit and I know that you know nothing about her."

I open my mouth to retort, but then all three of our phones ding.

Morgana reads the same message we're all reading aloud.
"It's Ann. We need to go."
