"I don't want to be alone." | Joshifer One-Shot

Josh found himself thinking about Jennifer again. In his eyes, Jen was an angel, with her blond hair and her rosy cheeks. He had never loved anyone so much.

He walked over to the window and reflected on his cozy surroundings. He had always loved his calm living room with its beige, colossal couch. It was one of the few places that actually helped him clear his head when his mind was the most dark.

Then he saw something over the window, or rather someone. It was his best friend, Jennifer. Only he knew that, deep down, he wanted her to be more than that. He wanted to be able to change her caller ID to one of those cheesy nicknames boys give to their girlfriends. Jennifer turned him into a complete idiot.

Josh gulped. He glanced at his own reflection. He was in love, but she was engaged with her former co-star, Nicholas Hoult. Josh never hated anyone so much. Everytime he hurt Jennifer, Josh was the one to pick up the pieces, and it broke her heart to see that, no matter what happened, Jen was always going to crawl back into Nichola's arms. His inner self saw him as a coward. What kind of man couldn't tell the girl he loves about his feelings?

But not even after two beers Josh was prepared for what Jennifer had in store today.

The clouds threatened to explode in rain, making Josh angry but also concerned, since Jen would eventually have to go home. Josh grabbed a white pillow that had been strewn nearby; he massaged it with his fingers. It was a habit of his, everytime he got extremely nervous.

As Josh stepped outside and Jennifer came closer, he could see a wide frown on her face, instead of her usual playful smile.

Jennifer gazed with the coldness of an ice cube. She said, in hushed tones, "I need space Josh. I can't be your friend anymore."

Josh looked back, even more angry and still fingering the white pillow. He knew what he had to do, to say, and before his brain could keep track of the words, they were already out of his mouth. "Jennifer, I love you. I do. Please choose me over Nick," he replied.

They looked at each other with raw, surprised feelings, like two stiff paper cups.

Suddenly, Jennifer lunged and took Josh in her embraced. "I know Josh. But we have to say goodbye."

"Why Jennifer? Just tell me. Why are you still with him? After everything he put you through?''

Josh couldn't take it. He turned around and went upstairs, leaving Jennifer all alone.

After a long time, Jennifer replied. "Because I don't want to be alone."

Josh didn't have the strenght to keep it in. "You weren't, dumbass."

Jennifer went back outside, while Josh took another beer out of the fridge. This was a night he wouldn't want to remember."
