Heros never die

Having it be a month since Starks death, you have played it over and over in your head what could've gone differently and he'd still be there. There wasn't nights where you'd stay up, wanting to fix everything.

The funeral was today. You were up to it, but there was something that you had to watch first.

Tony's holographic message.

You walked into Starks lab where nothing was touched. You pressed the button to show the holographic message being projected from his his helmet. You stood there, arms crossed revealing Tony who is sitting down recording the message.

"So I thought I'd probably better record a little greeting... In the case of an untimely death on my part. I mean, not that, death at any time isn't untimely. This time travel thing that we're gonna try and pull off tomorrow, it's– it's got me scratching my head about the survivability of it all. That's the thing. Then again, that's the hero gig. Part of the journey is the end."

Tony suddenly gets up walking towards his camera. "What am I even trippin' for? Everything's gonna work out exactly the way it's supposed to. I know that you'll be okay, because you're Y/N. Strong, independent and a little stubborn but that's okay. We need more of that in the world, Y/N. We do."

You smiled, tearing up. He leans down and smiles. He is looking straight at you in the camera.

"I love you."

The message ends and the hologram cuts out.

You sighed out, placing the remote on the table.

"Hey, you." Pepper walked into the office, leaning on the wall. "Everyone's outside."

You nodded, smiling dully. "Yeah."

You walked outside to the cottage revealing everyone who was at the fight. You nodded uneasily, following behind Pepper who was carrying a wreath.

She lays the wreath on the lake. You stood there and Peter walked up to you, tugging you by his side. You nuzzled your way into Peters chest as you watched the wreath float away on the lake.

Peter glanced down at you as your eyes closed, holding onto the tears.

"I'm here, whenever you need me. Just call me up and I'll be at your doorstep." Peter informed you.

Your eyes widened a little as you stare up at Peter, "Thanks, Queens." You laughed.

Peter walked over to Aunt May who on the way out, hugged you.

Standing there for a moment by yourself, everyone scattered expect for you. You watched the wreath go deeper into the lake.

You had a feeling that someone was behind you, but you didn't acknowledge them. You kept your eyes on the lake.

"You know-" A familiar voice walked up right next to you, "He was proud of you. Bet he still is." Steve turned his eyes towards you.

"I let him down." You scoffed, walking away. You walked down the lakeside and sat on a bench right by the water.

"That's not true-" Steve followed, sitting right next to you. "You have never let him down."

You sighed out, "We don't know that, Steve." You laughed uneasily.

"Well, I do. He was your number one fan. Talked highly of you to the team every chance he got. So yeah, he was over protective sometimes but you're his daughter." Steve explained.

You glanced up at Steve, trying not to burst out crying.

"Hey." Steve whispered, tugging you into his embrace. "Everything will be okay."

You sniffed, pulling away from Steve gently. "You are the only person who would say that and it would turn out to be true. Now who will I rely on?" You sniffed, wiping away the wetness on Steve's shoulders from your tears.

"Yourself." Steve nods, placing his hands on your hands in assurance.

"How?" Your voice cracked. "I don't know."

Steve points to your heart. "In there."

You sniffed and smiled lightly, throwing yourself on Steve for a hug. "I'm going to miss you." You whimpered.

"Me too." Steve's voice cracked.

Sam, Bruce and Bucky come from behind you, waiting for you and Steve to finish your moment.

"Now, remember– You have to return the stones to the exact moment you got them. Or you're gonna open up a bunch of nasty alternative realities." Banner reminds.

You pull away from Steve and he clears his throat. Don't worry, Bruce. Clip all the branches."

"You know, I tried. When I had the gauntlet, the stones, I really tried to bring her back. I miss her, man." Bruce glanced down.

"You know, if you want, I can come with you." Sam walked over to Steve, determined.

"You're a good man, Sam. This one's on me, though." Steve goes over to Bucky and you, who were just standing there quietly.

"Don't do anything stupid 'till I get back."

"How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you." Bucky smiled slightly and they hug.
"Gonna miss you, Buddy."

"It's gonna be okay, Buck." Steve then acknowledged you once more. Steve gently placed his hands on your cheek and carcasses it. "I'll miss you."

You tucked in your lips, nodding surely. "Me too, Cap."

Steve goes over to the Quantum portal and dons the Quantum suit.

"How long is this gonna take?" Sam questioned.

"For him? As long as he needs. For us? Five seconds." Banner walked over to the machine, ready to press the button.

Steve picks up Mjolnir.

"Ready, Cap? Alright. We'll meet you back here, okay?" Banner informs.

"You bet." Steve nods.

"Going quantum. Three, two, one–"

Steve disappears into the Quantum portal.

You gasped.

"And returning in, five, four, three, two, one–"

Steve doesn't appear on the pad. Bruce looks around the equipment.

"Where is he?" Sam questioned anxiously.

"I don't know. He blew right by his time stamp. He should be here." Banner told the rest of you, confused.

You turn around from the pad.

"Well, get him back!" Sam yelled.

"I'm trying." Banner grunted.

"Sam..." You paused, staring at old Steve sitting on a log. Sam and Bucky realize what you were looking at.

"Go ahead." Bucky nods over to Sam and Sam nodded, confused but determined to talk to old Steve.

You stood there, watching in admiration Sam and Steve share a couple of words. You cracked a smile.

Suddenly, Sam picks up the shield that was lying next to Steve. Sam then shares a glance at you and Bucky.

"Oh, my God." You whispered to yourself in amazement.

Sam turns to you and Bucky, amazed as well. Sam then signals you to walk over.

Doing so, you didn't break eye contact with the shield that was in Sam's hand.

"Hi." You beamed at Steve, who does the same. Sam realized and gave you two a moment and walked over back to Bucky.

Steve motions for your hand and you give it to him. He puts his hand on top of yours and pats it.

"You're-" You laughed, "All grown up. I'm happy for you. Truly."

"Thank you." Steve nodded to you.

"The only thing bumming me out is the fact I have to live in a world without Captain America." You glanced down, saddened.

"You have one now." Steve turns to Sam, who nodded to Steve in respect.

"He'll do great. I'll make sure of it." You laughed, then glancing down at Steve's hand which now had a wedding ring. "You want to tell me about her?" You motioned to the ring.

"No, no I don't think I will." Steve glanced up at you and smiled. You laughed, tears running through your face as you sat next to old Steve, resting your head on his shoulder.

What a life.
