Chapter 6: The Movies

-Adam's PoV-

Adam searched through his dresser, searching for something nice to wear on the date- no, it wasn't a date, just a friendly trip to the movies with his friend who he didn't like any more than that.

He pulled out a pair of black leggings and green flannel polo shirt. That would do. He quickly pulled them on and brushed out his hair, cleaning his glasses as well.

He stood in the living room, pacing back and forth as he waited for Beetlejuice to pick him up.

"Adam?" His mom's voice said and he looked over at her as she walked out of the kitchen. "Where are you going?"

"J-just to a f-f-friend's house," he tried to say but his mom cut him off.

"Please don't lie to me," she said and he swallowed nervously.

"I-I'm going on a date..."

"With this Lawrence fellow?"

"Yes," he said with a nod.

"Do you like him?" She asked and Adam bit his lip.

"Yes, I-I do." He said and his mom smiled and pulled him into a warm hug.

"Everything will be fine honey," she said softly and he nodded slowly. The doorbell rang. Adam pulled away, kissed his mom on the cheek, and opened the door.

Beetlejuice stood there in a fancy tux and was holding out a bouquet of roses. Adam blinked a few times and swallowed. He took the roses with a shaking hand and blushed deeply.

"Th-thank you," he stuttered and handed them to his mom who walked off with a smile.

"Anything for you~" Lawrence said and bowed deeply, extending his hand. Adam took his hand and his date helped him down the front steps and to the car. He opened the door for him and Adam got in, neither one of the boys said a thing.

Beetlejuice got in the driver's seat of his black Sudan and grinned at him. "Y-you didn't have to do all this for me," Adam told him but he laughed.

"Yes, I did."

"Why?"

"Because I happen to like you... A lot."

"Why? I'm nothing special-" Beetlejuice erupted in laughter and Adam stared at him. "Why are you laughing?"

Beetlejuice cackled and wiped at his eyes, "you, Adam Maitland, are very funny."

"How am I special? I'm just another nerd." Adam said and looked down.

"Hey, look at me, you are very special. You are kind and nice and so incredibly smart and handsome. And beautiful." Adam looked up at him and blushed deeply.

"You mean that?" He asked quietly and Beetlejuice looked over at him.

"Yes," he said and Adam had to stop himself from kissing the boy right then. No one in his whole life had ever said something so sweet to him. The two didn't talk for the rest of the drive until they reached the movie theater.

They both got out of the car and Beetlejuice offered Adam his arm. He gladly linked their arms and they walked inside the theater. "A-any idea on what we want to see?" Adam asked.

"I really wanted to see IT two," he said.

"Oh, I uh, don't do well with horror films," he said with a small laugh.

"It's alright, daddy will be there to protect you." Beetlejuice cooed and Adam felt the stares of other people in the theater. He bowed his head, his blushing getting out of hand.

"F-fine," he said and swallowed his nerves.

"Alrighty then," Beetlejuice said and walked them up to the front counter. "Two for IT two," he said calmly and the person at the register nodded and handed them their tickets.

"You'll be in theater four. Anything else?"

"Yeah, a large popcorn and two drinks." He told the woman and turned to Adam. "Anything else you need?" He shook his head and Beetlejuice pulled out his wallet.

"W-wait! I can pay!" Adam said and fumbled with his wallet but Beetlejuice stilled his hands.

"Hey, I got it okay? Don't worry about it." He said and handed the woman his money.

"You've already done so much for me, the least I can do is pay." He argued.

"Adam," Beetlejuice said, "I'm doing this for you and I'm glad to do it." Adam met his gaze and tried not to shrink away. They kept staring until Adam finally looked away, blushing again. Lawrence grabbed their popcorn and cocked his head at the drinks, indicating that Adam grab them. They made their way to theater four and Beetlejuice led him to seats in the middle.

They sat down and Adam looked over at Lawrence to find his eyes already on him. "Thank you again for taking me here," he said.

Beetlejuice took his hand squeezed it gently and Adam stared down at their fingers. "Look at me," the older boy said and he lifted his gaze with a nervous swallow, "I really like you Adam."
