For me, writing poetry has always been a process of self-renaming. Not something I do every day, yet when the words finally come, it feels like that long-lost friend coming to visit. Here is my return to self-expression, an action I began as a child full of wonder and adventure.But life has taken me down some difficult paths. Diagnosed with major depression and psychosis, most of the time I felt completely detached from my old self. Recently, reading over some of the things I wrote as a child, I felt again a flicker of the person I had been-a girl whose world was open to her eyes and heart, ready to be rediscovered. This book, in so many ways, is a reflection of that lost girl and a testament to my journey of self-recovery and healing continued to this day.Through these poems, I want to reach out to her-to whoever else may feel lost-to tell her that we are still here, waiting to be found.

Hi. My name is Victoria. All my life I've been trying to figure out what my purpose is. I've always felt alone and misunderstood, and home was toxic. I was in and out of the psych ward as a teen, deemed unsafe until I was court ordered to residental. Finally, two years later I got out, but home wasn't home anymore. It looked and felt like another living hell. Now at 27, you'd think I'd have my life together, but I don't. My dad died last year, and after being estranged almost all my life, that stung like nothing I've ever felt before. So for the past 9 years, I've been writing poems in my phone's notes app. Poetry has become the only way to escape at times. This is a collection of these poems, near and dear to my heart. I'm being super vulnerable and putting it all out there, because there's not enough awareness for what I went through.
