O presente trabalho tem por finalidade Investigar as contribuições do projeto Escola Sem Partido para o atual contexto educacional, especificamente no campo do debate político em sala de aula e o papel do professor quanto mediador nesse processo. Sendo assim, apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa realizada em duas escolas públicas da cidade de Gameleira-PE em torno das premissas do Projeto de Lei Escola Sem Partido. A abordagem metodológica é qualitativa; o instrumento de coleta de dados foi a entrevista que fora com professores e estudantes de duas escolas da Rede Municipal e Estadual de Gameleira-PE. Os resultados apontam que o debate em sala ocorre com frequência e independe da turma ou do professor, sendo que os temas sempre são abordados com um olhar científico do ponto de vista da investigação. Evidencia-se, portanto, que ainda se faz necessário o aprofundamento do debate em torno do tema, não apenas sobre o ESP, mas sobretudo sobre o papel da escola na formação política dos seus alunos. Por essa razão, o ESP constaria como meio validador das experiências de formação político-crítica em sala de aula, dado seu caráter promotor da diversidade de ideias e descentralização do ideário ideológico atual.
