A faction of my family happens to be wealthy, powerful, and elite. I wrote the first verses of the Chatterzees after attending an event with them. I was simply disgusted how everyone at that Hamptons event were so aloof, arrogant, and obsessed with appreciating themselves (admittedly, I wasn't in the best of moods) but as I hovered around the snarky cliques, I was reminded of the arrogance of the Romanovs who were indifferent to the suffering around them. The backdrop was 2009 when most the nation was reeling from the Housing Crash... I was truly blessed in the privilege of this parallax view... It was an opportunity to see a truth few Americans behold. A fly on the wall witnessing how rich and superficial a tiny portion of America has become. That said, I begrudge no one for achieving prosperity, and I still love those people and do admire each in their own special way. However, I do believe that fewer Americans have the same opportunities as they, regardless of ability, and it bothered me how oblivious they were to their own rare privilege. After all, they are the movers and shakers of our world today. If the Chatterzees were to deliver them any kind of message, I would hope it would be to realize their privilege and use some it to help others up; for it's not that riches are a sin... it's what one does with riches that truly counts.
