The rule was to stay inside and not bother him or interfere with his work. You thought he was just clearing land in some areas for important buildings he said he needed and that was it, but you didn't know he was turning the people of those lands into robotic slaves. When you break free from him and run away in fear of what he would do to you after what you did... Who would care for you?
