In a world where you're born with the first name of your soulmate on your wrist, some people spend their whole lives waiting, while others know too many people with the same name.Sherlock Holmes has always found the concept of soulmates frustrating and tiresome and, secretly, quite lovely. Or perhaps that's due to spending too much time in the morgue with Molly. Either way, as a boy, he found it quite frustrating that his soulmate has such a generic name. I mean, really, couldn't his parents have been a little more unique with their choice of names?John Watson has spent most of his life ignoring the name on his wrist. He wasn't even sure he was gay, and what kind of person has such an odd name, anyway? So John keeps moving through life, intent on choosing his own path in life.So what happens when these two cross paths?
"Serpent's Surrender" is a poem I wrote whilst listening to the artist 'Bad Omens'. The poem was my way of coping with losing my TaTa (grandfather), whom I never got to say goodbye to. Inspired by the song 'The Grey' from the Bad Omens album, I was able to confront a very tumultuous process of prolonged grief and loss.My grandfather was a very special person. He always saw the brighter side of life and believed in me and the art I wanted to pursue. Obviously, it was not easy to write this. However, I sincerely hope that in doing so, you will find solace and peace within the words. The poem utilises the metaphor of a snake or serpent, symbolising death and rebirth. Similarly, the motif of shedding its skin, its behaviours and impact on my psyche, are complemented and juxtaposed against the narrative of initially being constrained by guilt, to then acknowledging the reality of loss, then finally, letting go and healing.I have used a five-stanza style with parenthesis for the internal monologue.Thank you.[All rights reserved and copyrighted.
