What advice do you have for other breweries looking to use Kickstarter or a similar fund raising platform?

Well, unfortunately, I think Kickstarter will no longer be doing brewery based projects. At least that's the impression they gave us near the end of our project. However, there are plenty of other sites out there doing similar things, some don't require a specific goal, which means you get your money regardless.

Anyway, I think if there is a goal requirement, you should be realistic. If we'd asked for a hundred thousand dollars, I don't think we'd be talking about our success right now.

Give people some value for their donation. While the intention of this type of funding is to inspire people to support projects they believe in, the world isn't necessarily so altruistic. People like getting stuff back for their money. This doesn't mean it has to be tangible. Get creative. Our biggest prize was for $2,500 and gave someone the opportunity to craft an original beer with us (once open of course), design the label and name. We had four takers on that prize, four people we didn't even know... well until I found out my new next door neighbor was one of them.

And like I said before, you have to work for this money! Get out there and tell the world about your project and have your friends do the same. We had our video reposted over 600 times on Facebook, largely because our friends and friends of friends helped spread the word.

Don't be afraid to spend a little money on advertising. If you are doing a goal based program, it might not be a bad idea to have a wealthy grandmother there if you don't make your goal.
