Against her will, she becomes a Devotee, a military Bender whose sole purpose is to serve her twin Trooper. Her dad, the most talented Steel Bender in history, didn't fail at the job. He died at it.
But if Gus dies, Steel bending dies with her, along with the hopes of freedom for the rest of the Benders of Darhterre.
In this realm, bending is a curse rather than a blessing. Benders are weak and the Abridged, those who can't bend elements, are strong enough to secure thrones and make rules. They are the ones with real power. Power Benders won't ever have.
