My Travels In Peru

My wife and I fell in love with Peru the first time we visited. It cast a spell on us the first day we arrived, and we returned many times, each time focusing on a different area or a different part of its mysterious history. How was it possible for 180 Spaniards to conquer an Empire of 20 to 30 million people? What do the Nasca Lines represent? How did the Inca construct their big palaces and temples without steel tools, the use of the wheel, or animal power? These are some of the questions that fascinated and intrigued us and kept pulling us back to Peru. Share our experiences and adventures in this not well-known country, with a rich historical past and natural as well as anthropogenic wonders.

The Crazy Apes: A Satire of Human Society

A baby gorilla asks his father, "What are humans?" The father replies, "They are monkeys without hair, who believe they are masters of everything around them. They build shelters that go up to the sky. Their ego and greed know no limits and take from the earth much more than they need. They destroy the jungle, contaminate the air, and dump waste into the oceans. They enslave other humans and leave the multitudes to die of hunger so that a few can live in luxury. Moreover, they build weapons to kill each other. Sooner or later, they will exterminate themselves. Humans are crazy monkeys!"

CLIMATE CHANGE: what does it mean?

The words Climate Change have entered our vocabulary with hurricane force. It's difficult to pick up a newspaper, view the evening news, or read more than a few minutes on social networks, or the web without encountering these words. But what do they mean? Is climate really changing? How is it changing? Hasn't it always changed? Didn't we just recover from an ice age that ended only ten thousand years ago; and, didn't Europe just recover from a mini ice age that ended only a few centuries ago? So, what does climate change really mean? Does any one know? If these questions interest you, then please read on, as I try to shed some light on this complex, socio-political issue.

CONVERSATIONS IN THE PANTHEON - The Truth about God and Religion

It is said that truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident. It's also said that what ails the truth is that it's mainly uncomfortable and dull. What is the truth about god? Is god real or imagined? It's an age-old question much debated throughout human history. Is science able to give us a definitive answer? Find out the truth for yourself in the following chapters.

Earth Poetry 2

Poetry is inspirational, of course, but it's much more you see. It's about you and me and humanity, doing our best in a sea of unrest, and calling for help so we can do our best, to calm the storms we all see, but fail miserably by acting selfishly. It's about you and me working collectively for the betterment of society, for the future of humanity, which is threatened daily by forces we don't even see because we're busy, you and me!ENJOY!!!

MY CAMINO

The Camino de Santiago was not even on my bucket list. Yet, after reading about it, the idea of backpacking for five weeks appealed to me; and the more I thought about it the more compelling it became. It promised the freedom, challenge, and adventure that I was seeking. If I could walk between 20 and 30 km per day, in a little more than a month, I would traverse northern Spain from east to west, going over mountains, across farmer's fields and vineyards, and even walk on an piece of old roman road. I would pass through medieval cities, charming towns, and quaint villages, some dating back to before the Middle Ages. Follow me as I share with you my Camino experiences: the thrill and adventure, the emotional roller coaster of long days of walking, and the pleasurable encounters with so many wonderful people.

It was 5 pm and college age started early tomorrow; and I was looking in the mirror at my left eye; which was completely black.. 'Will anyone judge me?, will I find..."𝘏𝘪𝘮"?' He thought curiously. The Canadian suddenly had a flash back playing with "him", he remembered "him" saying: "canadá ... "¡ese es un nombre genial! a diferencia de ... la mía." (Canada...thats a cool name! unlike...mine.)

WHY ARE WE KILLING MOTHER EARTH?

It's amazing what fresh air, nature's beauty, and a starry sky can do to clear the cobwebs from one's mind. It has been years since I saw the Milky Way, and even longer since I canoed in northern Ontario. One week of wilderness camping in Georgian Bay is sufficient to set me off on a mission to save mother earth. It's as if nature and the universe conspired to spur me into action. But save it from what?

ECUADOR HIKING

Ecuador is one of the smallest South American countries, but it has a biodiversity that is second only to Brazil, the biggest country on the continent. First attracted to Ecuador by the immensely popular Galapagos Islands, we kept returning to it for its beaches and mountains, each blessed with stupendously rich fauna and flora. It's the mystic power of the mountain gods (still worshipped throughout the highlands) that keeps drawing us back year after year. We spent numerous weeks traveling along Avenida de los Volcanos visiting quaint indigenous villages, as we hiked to oxygen-starved heights to take the perfect picture of a crater lake, waterfall, or smoking volcano. The coast is no less fascinating. We spent endless golden days traveling along Ruta del Sol and Ruta del Spondylus enjoying fresh oyster cebiche and spectacular sunsets! In the small fishing ports we observed the daily ritual of bringing in the morning catch with hundreds of pelicans swarming the boats laying claim to some of it. For the fishermen, it was just another day: for us, it was an unbelievable experience. What more could one want? Well, there is also the fabulous rainforest, which takes one back to primordial times! Join me as I recount the wonderful experiences we had in this fascinating country.

HUMANITY'S FOLLY

"Although the chance of a disaster to planet Earth in a given year may be quite low, it adds up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next thousand or ten thousand years." He was talking about nuclear war and genetically-engineered viruses and noted that further progress in science and technology will create new ways things can go wrong." His name is professor Stephen Hawking and I believe he's an optimist! Disaster looms and we're unaware of it! Am I a fear monger? Read on and let me know!

Rhythm of the Tides: my arctic experience

Can you imagine living in the arctic when the nights appear to be endless and the frigid wind blows hard? And then there are the blizzards that can cover a whole village under a thick blanket of snow! Who would want to live there?
