Predictably Predictable

It was all very generic. He was that broody and conceited guy with devilishly good looks and unresolved 'rich daddy who wants a good company successor' problems. Yes, an impeccably structured character for an impeccably clichéd romantic novel, cause who doesn't enjoy those? But romantic novels usually entail the existence of a quirky and annoyingly positive love interest don't they? Well, we had that. She was just...a little too predictable. Even for this book. It just didn't seem right. "She was easily forgettable. She had a face that anyone would think they'd seen before. She didn't have a distinctive beauty to her. No magnificence, just...tastelessness and unruly hair. She was a bit too unconventional for his taste and she had these prying eyes that really unsettled him. But no matter how hard he tried to, he couldn't forget such a forgettable face. He might've remembered her because of her uninhibited personality, not because of her average appearance. Or maybe it was the bare feet. Yeah...it was probably that." Warning: May contain a considerable amount of predictability and content that could provoke unwanted things called feelings. Read at your own risk. Read if you're not too burdened by a writer who lacks originality.

Pools Under the Pine

Magic is a fickle thing. Throughout human history it has been surrounded by myth and legend. Culturally it has been mistaken for what is unknown, a way of explaining what has no definable cause. If crops failed to produce a bountiful harvest, it is was a failure to appease the gods on part of the farmer. If a relative died from an unknown cause, it was witchcraft. Magic is a scape goat for when understanding is lacking. For this reason, magic is shrouded in mystery. However, magic is real, and it not all that mysterious. For those who have experience of real magic, its just another form of science. Magic is governed by rules, just like the rest of all that is physical. What differentiates magic is that its rules do not comply with those of everything else. Magic acts in a way that is not 'natural', even though for magic it is perfectly natural. Those who understand magic know this. Fortunately, the mystery and mistrust that surrounds magic serves magic users fairly well.
