Bir gün bir garip gezgin grubu gemiyle keşif yaparken, havanın karardığı ve dalgaların arttığı bir yere doğru istemeden çekildiler. Geriye dönmek isteseler de fırtınadan dolayı önlerini göremezlerdi. Bir vakit sonra gün ışığını gördüler ve oraya doğru ilerlediler. Karşılarına daha önce hiç görmedikleri bir ada çıktı. Her ağaçta meyveler vardı ve hayvanlar koşuşturuyordu. Gemiyle adanın etrafını dolaşırken denizden girilebilen bir mağara keşfettiler ve iki sandalla bu mağraya girdiler. Mağaranın içinde, etrafı deniz sularıyla kaplı bir adacık gördüler. Adacığın üzerinde parıldayan bir kristal vardı ve göz kamaştıran bir ışık, sadece belirli bir noktayı aydınlatıyordu.Gezginler, bu ışığın aydınlattığı yere baktıklarında, hasırdan örülmüş bir sepetin içinde kundaklanmış bir bebek gördüler. Bebek derin bir uykuda görünüyordu. Onu kucaklamak istediklerinde, bebek gözlerini açtı ve gözbebeklerinde aniden üç saniyelik bir siyahlık belirdi, sonra kayboldu. Kundak içindeki bebeğin bileğinde antik çağın efsanelerinden kara korsanın dövmesi oluştu, fakat kimse fark etmedi.
