Near the end, when the human population is at 100 and all humans are hiding in the deepest corners of the earth, it sends out a call and promises to give them the secrets of the universe. Nobody shows, and that's what keeps humans alive. They could've easily gotten the answers, but something inside stopped them. The last humans wouldn't be satisfied with only the answer, no. They wanted to learn the secret without any outside help, for pure satisfaction, for the thrill of the chase.
