EPISODE SEVEN:EQUIPMENTS

ASHLEY'S POV.

Good morning, mom," I said, concentrating on my phone.

"No phones at the table," Mom said.

I reluctantly dropped my phone.

"What's for breakfast?" I asked one of the many maids in the house.

She served my food on my plate, and I ate.

"I'm off to school," I said, getting my backpack.

"By the way, we are going camping this Tuesday," I said.

"When are you coming back?" she asked.

"Friday," I said.

Trust my mom to never care about me.

All she ever does is think about her arms (weapon) making company.

She never asks how school is.

We don't even have that mother-daughter relationship.

I'm so fed up already.

I got into my BMW, and the driver drove off.

HADIZAH'S POV.

I was finished with my chores after two long hours.

"Mummy, I see that you are not busy today.

How has work been treating you?" I asked.

"It's been good. Have you forgotten that today is Sunday?" she said.

"Oh, it skipped my mind," I said. "How is your new school?" she asked.

"My new school? It's filled with drama kings and queens, rich kids, spoiled brats.

When I say spoiled brats, I mean they are spoiled to the core.

But some of them are actually nice.

I made three friends already," I said. "Really? That's a huge improvement.

You hardly make friends," she said.

"Yes, it's a plus for me as well," I said.

Then my mom received a phone call from work, I guess. So much for "have you forgotten it's a Sunday?" They should just let her rest, abeg (A Nigerian slang word for I beg).

"Mummy, before I forget, we are going camping this Tuesday, and then we will arrive back on Friday," I said.

"That means I need to get you camping equipment.

Looks like we have only today and tomorrow," she said.

"Don't worry. Ava said she will help with it," I said.

"Okay then, I have work tomorrow. By the way, who is Ava?" she asked.

Trust my mom to always want to know the details.

"She is one of the friends I just made, and she is also the closest to me," I said.

"Okay, just be careful of the friends you make," she said, and she went upstairs to her room.

I'm so bored. I played my Nintendo Switch till I got tired.

How I wish I had a phone.

At least I would be able to speak with Ava.

AVA'S POV.

I'm in my huge room watching my favorite TV show.

I eventually got bored, and I went to sit on my balcony.

I sat on the hammock, reading a fantasy novel.

I love books if you might ask. I heard a knock on my door, and without asking who it was, I told the person to come in.

"Hi," my annoying brother said.

"What do you want? If you don't have anything to say, get lost because I'm busy," I said, with my eyes fixed on the book.

"Did I murder you in your past life?" he asked.

"Don't know, don't care," I replied.

"Why the hell do you hate me this much? I'm supposed to be your elder and only brother," he said.

I didn't give a reply.

If he knew how much I hated him right this moment, then he would jump off from my balcony.

"Please leave. I don't have time for this," I said.

He left my room with a heavy heart.

I knew I hurt him, but I liked it, and I don't care.

"I and Hadizah were going to the mall to get her camping equipment.

Looks like she is the type of person to always be on time because I delayed us a bit.

We got to the entrance of the mall, and I remembered, "You haven't given me your number yet," I said.

"Uhm, I don't have one because I don't have a phone," she said.

"You've got to be kidding me. You are a teenager, and you don't have a phone. Doesn't that sound weird to you?" I said.

"In Nigeria, parents see children having phones as a type of distraction. My mum is one of them. Let me just give you my mum's phone number," she said.

This girl sure is different, I thought.

When we got in, we saw Rose's boyfriend Ethan.

Since we were just classmates, not friends, we decided to go on our separate paths.

But it looked like Ethan had different plans for us.

He approached us.

"You guys must be Ava and... I can't recall your name," he said, trying very hard to remember.

"It's Hadizah," she said.

"Yeah, right," he said.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"Nothing. Just thought I could meet new classmates," he said.

"How do you even know us?" she said. "Rosy told me about you," he said.

"Well, sorry to be so rude, but we don't have time for all this chit-chat. Okay, so, Mr., we would like to take our leave," I said, drawing Hadizah away.

But he kept following us.

"Man, don't you think you are creeping us out with the way you are following us, man? Are you a stalker or something?" I said.

"I'm not a stalker. I just happen to be going your way," he said.

"Fine then," I said.

We finished purchasing everything we needed, then we left to pay for the goods.

Hadizah brought out her mom's card, and she paid.

Then we left.

ETHAN'S POV.

I was about to leave the mall when I saw a bracelet.

I'm not bragging, but I am very meticulous. I remembered I saw the bracelet on the Muslim girl's wrist.

I keep forgetting her name. I'll keep it and give it to her tomorrow, I thought.

Someone tapped me from behind, and it was Bryan.

"What's up, man? Didn't think I would see you both here," I said, referring to Henry also.

"It's what we should be asking you," Henry said. "I came to get camping materials," I said.

"Aren't you supposed to have those at home?" he asked.

"Trevor happened, and it's a long story," I said.

"Sorry about that," he said.

"Naa, it's fine. I'm used to it by now," I said.

"What are you guys doing out here?" I asked.

"Just here to get some cool breeze," Bryan answered.

"Let's go play video games at my house," Henry suggested.

"Not a bad idea. Let me drop this in my car," I said.

As we were going, we were stopped by the two idiots, as I love to call them.

"What do you guys want?" Bryan asked.

"What, can't we come say hello?" Dylan said.

"You guys never have anything good to say or do," Henry said.

"What do you gain from frustrating people's lives? Don't you have better things to use your youth for?" I said.

It looked like they seemed defeated. "We'll get you later, suckers," Dylan said, and left.

We just headed to Henry's house.
