MATTHEO RIDDLE

SUMMARY: you and mattheo have been dating for a few months now and everything is perfect. well, everything except for one thing: for some reason, you are obsessed with his ex-girlfriend.

inspired by the olivia rodrigo song "obsessed" from her album guts (spilled)

YOUR WHOLE LIFE seemed perfect right now. your grades were fine, you had nice friends and the best part was, you had the best boyfriend possible.

mattheo riddle and you have been dating for around three months now, and ever since then, you were the happiest you have ever been. mattheo was the perfect boyfriend. he wasn't just completely handsome and hot, but the two of you also matched each other perfectly. he was fun to be around, always found a way to cheer you up and made you come out of your shell.

sure, he had his problems here and there, especially with his family, but over all, he was incredible. your friends were all jealous of your relationship that seemed flawless. everyone thought you were the perfect couple. and you were. you both loved each other and thought that you were the ones for one another.

there was just one big problem.

you were literally obsessed with his ex-girlfriend.

everybody knew that mattheo dated this girl named daisy greengrass before you. they dated for around 9 months and nobody really knows why they broke up. some say it's because mattheo cheated, others say that daisy found his ways of living too unhealthy.

but people loved them together. and now that you were his new girl, you felt like you had to be perfect to overshadow their past relationship. mattheo always told you that he was over daisy, that he had moved on with you and she did the same with her new boyfriend, but for some reason, you didn't completely buy it from him.

and so you caught yourself thinking about daisy all the time. whenever you and mattheo sat in the great hall at breakfast, dinner or lunch, your eyes secretly scan the room for her. you hated yourself for doing it, but you couldn't stand it when she was in the same room as you, even though she went to the same school.

it was completely unhealthy of you to do so, but over time, you found out a lot about her. you knew almost everything about her: her blood-type, her star-sign, her favorite animal, her address, everything.

daisy was also utterly beautiful with her dark blonde hair, the kind brown eyes and the charming smile. no wonder mattheo fell in love with her. a hate towards her grew inside you. often you found yourself wishing that she didn't exist. you wanted to find reasons to kick her out of the school or make everyone hate her.

mattheo and your relationship was going great. he seemed to be so in love with you and treated you like a queen. he always organized fun and romantic dates with you, made time for you all the time and actually started to care about things like grades and his future. in other words, you helped him become a better person.

everyone saw how good you were for him. everyone except for you. mattheo barely spoke about daisy, some would think that he forgot that she existed. but whenever he mentioned her name, you felt so threatened. plus you remembered every little detail he told you about: how many siblings she has, in what town her new boyfriend lives, how she likes her tea.

however, it was so obvious that they were both over each other, but you just couldn't accept it. it also didn't help that she was just so fucking nice. daisy smiled at everyone, gave genuine compliments to random girls and was so kind to the teachers.

one time when you had a conversation with your best friend pansy, daisy somehow became the topic of your talk.Β  pansy mentioned that daisy spoke to her about you. apparently she said that she thinks your the best thing that could have happen to mattheo and that she thinks you guys are absolutely perfect for each other.

so, daisy isn't just otherworldly beautiful, an angel on earth and perfect, she also speaks kindly about you, her ex-boyfriends new girlfriend? you couldn't hate her more.

one winter evening, mattheo and you were laying on his bed and cuddled before going to sleep.

"y/n," he suddenly said and your head went up. whenever mattheo called you by your name, you thought he mistakes you for daisy. you knew that it was wrong, but you just couldn't help it.

"yes?" you ask him and put for head on your hands.

"you know that i love you, right?" he quietly says and your eyes immediately go up to meet his chocolate brown ones.

yes, of course he had told you that he loved you before, but everytime he said it, you were surprised by it. you spend so much time thinking about daisy, that you sometimes forgot that you were the one who was in a relationship with mattheo. and whenever he said that he loved you, you wondered if you were worrying too much about daisy. maybe mattheo really loves you for you.

"yes, and i love you too. with everything i have," you reply with a happy smile on your lips.

mattheo smiles too and presses a light kiss on your cheek while he hugs you from the side. whenever the two of you had moments like that, it made you feel like you're a horrible human because you were so obsessed with his ex, who he is clearly over.

silence settled between you guys, a comfortable one, punctuated only by the soft rhythm of your breathing.

mattheo broke the silence, his voice pulling you back to the present. "how was your day?" he asked, his tone laced with genuine interest.

"it was good," you replied. "just busy with classes, you know."

he nodded, understanding flickering in his gaze. "yeah, i feel you. this year's been pretty hectic."

a pause hung in the air again. you knew that you should cherish these moments with your boyfriend, revel in your shared intimacy, but your mind refused to let go of the gnawing insecurity that gripped your heart.

"so, i was thinking," mattheo then began, his voice pulling you from your thoughts again. "there's this club in south london that i've been wanting to show you. they play some really nice music, and i thought it could be fun if we went together."

your interest piqued at the mention of the club. "do i know this club?" you asked, your curiosity tinged with excitement. you and mattheo haven't gone out for a while now.

a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "i'm not sure," he admitted. "it's been my favorite spot for over a year now. i used to go there all the time with my friends. last summer we went there almoat every day."

her heart skipped a beat at the mention of that. last summer, mattheo and daisy were still dating. even though he didn't mention her, it meant that she went there with him too. jealousy formed inside of you and your good mood immediately faded away.

"sounds like a blast," you said, forcing a smile.

mattheo nodded eagerly. "it is a blast,i promise," he said, his enthusiasm infectious.

but as he continued to talk about the club and what famous bands have played there already, your mood soured, overshadowed by a creeping sense of dread. something about the way he spoke, the casual mention of his past experiences, gnawed at your insides. it was like he remembered with a smile on his lips how he spent his nights there with daisy.

"is everything okay?" mattheo's voice suddenly cut through the haze of your thoughts, concern showing in his features.

you plastered on a smile, masking the anger raging within you. "yeah, everything's fine," you said sweetly, your voice betraying none of the turmoil swirling inside you. "i love you."

mattheo's expression softened at your words, his gaze searching yours for any sign of distress. finding none, he leaned in to kiss you gently with his big hands on your cheeks, a silent reassurance of his love and affection towards you.

but as he drifted off to sleep, you remained awake, your mind consumed by a whirlwind of emotions. you knew that you should let go of your fears, trust in mattheo's love for you, but the jealousy that gripped your heart refused to be silenced.

daisy just couldn't leave your head. does mattheo still think about her? you looked at your boyfriend, who was sleeping so peacefully in his bed. the rage inside you got even worse when you remembered that she slept in this bed too, on your side of the bed.

with a heavy heart, you slipped out of the bed, your footsteps silent as you walked through hogwarts quiet and dark hallways. you made your way to the kitchens, that were luckily empty.

your hands trembled as you reached for the biggest knife you saw, your mind consumed by thoughts of the one person who threatened to tear your perfect world apart.
